Nevin is something else - he has improved a lot. Should make a big splash at the World Championships.

Seeing as he won the 54kg final by about 15 points and (I think) won the Best Boxer on the night, I very much doubt it.

Below from the Independant.ie
JJJ - Don't get me wrong, I like John Joe Joyce. But there was something immensely encouraging about seeing the Athy boxer being stopped in the first round by Philip Sutcliffe last Friday in the national light-welterweight final at the Stadium.
Because here you had an outstanding boxer, a European bronze medallist who might have done even better in the Olympics but for some dodgy officiating, being served notice that he's going to have one hell of a fight to even qualify for a shot at the 2012 Olympics. And the funny thing is that Sutcliffe, a mad whirlwind of a fighter who I suspect may do great things in the pro game some day, may not even be the number one boxer in his Crumlin club, let alone the country
DOJ - Perhaps the emblematic bout of the championships was the featherweight final between David Oliver Joyce and Carl Frampton which looked as though it was being contested by two men who had taken a solemn oath not to take a step backwards. Joyce may be the EU champion but he was comprehensively beaten by Frampton after about as exciting an amateur fight as you're ever likely to see. Then again, it's not long since Frampton came within a point of a European medal.

the article is about JJN not JJJ.
JJJ got beat by one of the Sutcliffes in the elite finals.
JJN won his final against Frampton (I think) on points

I wasn't referring to this article , i was asking a seperate question as the original poster seemed to know a bit about the amateur game , the name of the fighter that koed jjj escaped me ,now my question has been answered so thanks, do you know sutcliffes plans ? As has been said it was encouraging to see jjj losing (even if this sounds negative) because it shows the dept of talent in Ireland.
Just to add on , i havent heard anything about egan since he went awol ? It would be a shame if he hung up his gloves. Imagine him winning close to home with a big irish crowd in london 2012

Theres a fair few of this years AMA finalists looking to go Pro now. Mainly the one that haven't been able to get on the HP squad over the years (some due to living in the North). a few of them seem to have grown and matured a good bit in the last 12-18 mnths and now seem to think they are ready to turn over. Can't say anymore at the minute but once I can announce for sure what is happening I'll be sure to post here.
I winder have some of the former Senior winners become a little complacent this year as many have won the title more than once. Also have the newer guys/names trained that wee bit harder to try and get some where ?

You could be right Gareth.
So let's see who could be going pro...
Lindberg for one is very talented but won't win a senior title or box for Ireland at bantam while Nevin's at that weight.
Sutclife certainly looks to have the makings of a good one too.
What about Willie McLoughlin?
Maybe some of the Athy lads? Roy Sheehan?
The Tipperary heavyweight Con Sheehan's a super boxer and could maybe make a pro but I reckon he'll hang on for London.
