Smith jumps David in the English supermiddle queue!

i would feel hard done-by in his position :(
i disagree with him though, that he got robbed against Tyrone Wright, i thought Wright *just* did enough to edge it by taking the last 3 rounds, taking 2 of them big from memory.
David is a total 'who needs him' fella, though, awkwardness, some skills and strength and punch to go with them
English super-middleweight title holder Paul David is livid after being dealt yet another blow by the British Boxing Board of Control.
Instead of finally rubber-stamping David's long-awaited bid for a shot at the British title, the Board have overlooked the stylish 24-year-old and instead elected to grant Paul Smith a shot at Tony Quigley's title.
Sheffield prospect David (10-4) does seem to have a strong case for being the next challenger.
'Everyone's dodging me, no-one wants to fight me. The board are keeping me on the outside as well. Last June I was matched with Tony Dodson who pulled out becasuse he said that he'd got a bad back. But he must have incredible powers of recovery because he boxed one week later in Italy.
'I then went away and boxed Tyrone Wright, got robbed the first time but then knocked him out in the rematch.
'Then I was supposed to box Quigley in an eliminator for the British title on this Hayemaker bill in Liverpool. But due to pull-outs Quigley got moved up to box Dodson leaving me stuck. Dave Coldwell tried hard but was unable to find a suitable opponent at short notice - I believe that they wanted to do a fight with Joe Ainscough but it got knocked back by the Board.
'Paul Smith has moved up from middle and was told by the Board to box the winner of my fight with Quigley. Now for some reason he's been allowed to leap-frog me and get a straight shot at the title. I can't understand the logic for Smith to overtake me in the reckoning. It's not even a year since he got beat by Steven Bendall down at middleweight and since then he's done nothing to justify getting straight in for a title shot in the division above. It's not right because I have been in the mix, knocking on the door for nearly two years. In fact, I first got cleared by the board for a title shot after I beat Peter Haymer in May 2007.
'I've beaten some really tough guys in Peter Haymer, Richard Turba and Tyrone Wright. My defeats have been either bad decisions like the Wright one or down to inexperience against good opponents like Steven McGuire [David's second pro fight] and Brian Magee [seventh]. I'm 100% ready to move on and win the British title. In fact I want to go all the way and emulate other British super-middles like Carl Froch and Joe Calzaghe.
'I've sparred a number of rounds with Froch and have been told I did really well. He's a great fighter and that was a great learning experience and a really good confidence booster.
'I'm not a fighter who's been bankrolled by a rich promoter - I've been the outsider, the out-of-towner and the away fighter and consequently I've been matched really hard from the word go. Because of the names on my record I thought that the board would finally do the right thing and get me a shot at the title.
'It's absolutely soul destroying when you see other people jumping the queue but my trainer Dominic Ingle and his brother John, who's my manager, have told that all I can do now is keep winning and make it impossible for them to keep ignoring me. So that's what I will do.'
