anyone have a clue who he will be fighting?

I hope its a decent, meaningful fight (e.g. 1st defence of the British title) as opposed to a no-mark 10 rounder against some unknown tomato can from armenia. Macklin's been treading water for too long prior to the Elcock win and deserves to be moved along at a decent rate from now on.

He was talking about Bendall in a voluntary with the winner of Barker v McDermott to follow.

Bendall would be a decent enough fight and Bendall is deserving of a shot, having beaten Paul Smith. That said, I'd be surprised if Macklin didn't take care of him inside six rounds, eight at a push. I really rate Macklin. I remember when he first turned pro he looked like one of the best prospects we've had in a while but then really underperformed in the Facey fight (mind you Facey has terribly awkward style to fight, is a tough SOB and can make anyone look bad - ain't that righy Moorsey? ). The Moore fight set him back a bit of course, but I really believe he is good enough to fight for a world title. And with Abraham and Pavlik looking to move up to 168lbs sooner rather than later, its not inconceivable that he could big up a belt.

Bendall has been around the domestic block in the last few years and would be a very solid fight for Macklin. Though as mentioned, I think Macklin would have too much for Bendall and the fight would be unlikely to go past 6 rounds.

Yes, a boxer who has just lost the English title- and IDEAL and totally logical candidate to challenge for the British title.

I'm not knocking Bendall, just this silly system of "titles."

unusual i disagree with you terry but it wouldn't do for me, not at all really

i don't see (1) what on earth Bendall losing to my man Macca has done to earn him a shot and (2) how, given that Elcock smashed him to bits and an extremely ringrusty Macca handled him with relative ease, Bendall could go more than 5-6 VERY one-sided rounds with Matthew IMO>

tho having said that off the top of my head I am at a loss for suitable alternatives so i had best shut up

bump- terry, any suggestions for an alternative to Bendall (who, the more i think about it, the less satisfied i am with)? i heard something to the effect that macklin wants to better his ranking, tho with what organisation I don't know...

i guess i am viewing this as more a keep-busy fight as macklin waits forBarker and Macca to decide who's up next for him

Another name in the mix was ex-amateur star Matthew Thirwall but he has never really moved out of 6 round class in a start stop career.

I prefer Bendall due to the derby factor (Cov being only 10 miles or so from Solihull) and the fact that he has a fairly recent points win over Paul Smith.

In an ideal world, to my mind, Macklin would be facing Macca in a voluntary derby defence and then Barker in a mandatory but as they are now boxing off for the right to face Macklin the Bendall fight is a decent enough voluntary, to me.

Thirwall was a real banger in the ams suprised its not really happened for him in the pros. That could be a tough one- or it could be easy... But I doubt he'll emerge with much credit either way.
