Hatton under Billy Graham beats Pac-man

I think with hattons "new" style of boxing he struggles against a faster more elusive target in Pac.

However i think that the hit and hold style, with many body shots used under Billy Graham, hatton would indeed have a better chance of winning.

Hatoon stopped in late rounds or pPac by wide UD

I favour Hatton to win, but i am also worried about this new style of his. You cant teach an old dog new tricks and i think its possible Mayweather Sr may be doing more harm than good, especially with his corner work, but then we'll find all that out on the night. As an additional side note, i was really bemused when watching 24/7 i learned that Mayweather Sr turns up late to the gym on a daily basis, sometimes as late as an hour, thats poor in my opinion!

Graham was great for Hatton, but i think he got carried away with the Mayweather fight and was short of a plan B. When Hatton talks about how he used to just charge forward without thinking, i can only picture the Mayweather fight and to be fair, in hindsight, those tactics were pretty poor. Other than that though, i think Graham was great for Hatton and i'm not sure by having Mayweather Sr take over is not going to improve much at all at this late stage of the day. I worry he'll do more harm than good for Hatton!

He coped well with Malanaggi's speed

i agree with the original poster , i was thinking about the fight today and thought a very similar fight plan to when he beat tyzuz (sp) would be what hatton needed to win this fight.

my worry is that hatton gets out-boxed for the first few rounds then leaves it to late to force pacquaio into a brawl.

im picking pacquiao by UD in the prediction league but i really hope ricky wins

Hatton, at any point in his career would struggle with Pacquaio's left hand, regardless of the style he employed. To fight inside he's still going to have to walk through punches. I think the problem with his old style is that he doesn't have the durability required to pull it off. Too many tough fights and pints of guiness have taken there toll. He's still a threat to anyone he fights, including Pacquaio, but I think hes had to try to refine his style because he just doesn't have the fitness and durability he once had. He'll still throw his weight around and wing in the body shots on the inside, he just has to be a bit more cautious these days. I agree though that the old Hatton style would probably have served him better against Pacquaio, just not sure he has the durability required to fight that style anymore, he can't afford to take one to land one anymore.

Malignaggi only had one hand and even if he had two he can't punch. Pacquiao uses two fisted attacks and uses them often. Hatton is gonna get beaten up in my opinion.

Is Hatton now a completely different boxer and I have missed something?

Hatton against Malignaggi was Hatton reverting to the boxer he was earlier in his career before he became obsessed with being stronger than his opponent. The main things you hear from Floyd Snr is he's trying to make Ricky harded to catch clean which is only going to help against Pacquaio. If Hatton charges in like he did against Tszyu against Pacquaio then he's in trouble as great fighter Tszyu was, he wasn't great going backwards.

I do like Hatton and think he's good for British boxing, but it seems a bit two-faced to say he sacked Graham due to his health issues ("slowing down", "slowing me down" etc.), then it transpires on 24/7 that Mayweather's got a debilitating lung problem.

Good to see Graham maintaining his dignity and Ricky improving under his new trainer, but explanation seems a bit contrived

Wow! Beating Pac-man is diffcult enough, but doing it with Billy Graham on top of you is extraordinary.

Things you ain't seen him do, like touching the head, finding his lead, then hitting the body instead. That shit has been absent from his style." Then some backstage wag shows a clip of Hatton-Castillo to prove Floyd's point, a feint to the head followed by a left hook to the body. Then it went back to Floyd, who completely failed to see that the guy had just done under Graham what Floyd was going to 'teach'. First-class.

They may come out and showcase an massive change in this fight. If Hatton loses it could be his toughest fight yet, versus Floyd Senior post-fight.

I say this with love and respect for all things Hatton, this is not 'anti-Hatton sentiment'.
I wish I could agree. I don't think Floyd has improved much for Ricky in technique, but mentally he's changed him.

Hatton isn't fighting with a new style though....He's just gotten back to fighting how he used to fight pre-Zu.

Against Kostya, rough mauling tactics were what was required and they worked a treat. But unfortunately Ricky and Billy seemed to fall in love with that gameplan a bit too much and it featured all too frequently in subsequent fights.

However Floyd Snr has gotten Hatton motivated again and back using his boxing. Mixing aggression with a bit of defense and brains. Watch Hatton against Ray Oliviera which shows quite clearly that Hatton has always been able to fight like he did against Malignaggi.

First round against Oliviera...

Ricky will beat Manny using a mixture of boxing mixed with pressure and aggression. In other words he'll be Ricky Hatton at his best, and he'll be much too much for little Manny to deal with.

Beating an anorexic Oscar doesn't prepare anyone for meeting a re-energised Hatton at his best weightclass. I'm suprised so many have been fooled by that fight and Manny's win over a very pedestrian beltholder at lightweight, into thinking he can deal with Hatton. But i'm delighted the bookies are also amongst that number

Hatton will hit, hurt and ultimately stop Manny.

My main worry is that Hatton gets cut early, Pac throws straight shots from angles that cut across you, if Ricky doesn't get cut i predict a Hatton stoppage between 6-9, with him looking sensational.
Ricky Hatton recently said it doesn't matter how fast you are, its all about the timing, i totally agree, Hatton is a lot quicker and cuter with his footwork then i think he gets credit for.

Pacquiao is hardly FMJ on the backfoot himself. improved, but not an elite counterpuncher IMO
