Froch 'bored' with Calzaghe talk

Froch is undefeated in 25 fights
World super-middleweight champion Carl Froch says he is bored of talking about a possible fight with Joe Calzaghe.

The 31-year-old, who successfully defended his WBC title in Connecticut last week, has often talked about taking on the Welshman, who is retired.

But Froch told BBC Radio Nottingham: "To be honest, I'm getting bored of the whole saga with Joe Calzaghe.

"The reason we mentioned it before is because he was the one talking about coming out of retirement."

Froch insists he has other options after beating Jermain Taylor in Connecticut.

"I'm world champion and I've proved myself at world level.

"There are some real big fights out there for me. I don't need Calzaghe as much as he thinks I do. "
Funniest thing i've heard in ages. What a mug.

What you gonna say about him tomorrow ?

I think he might just be trying a different tactic to tempt Joe out of retirement. Just simply calling him out isn't working obviously so maybe he thinks by using a bit of reverse psychology may work.

May you laugh though doesn't it...

What is so stupid/laughable about what he said?

The fact that Froch never seems to shut up about Calzaghe, perhaps?

Froch's been thinking he could take him since KO'ing Hague.

Whats stupid horse and Chambers is that he thinks he could ever win a fight against Joe. :P

I don't find that stupid or laughable.

Froch could win a fight against Calzaghe. It is hardly a stupid conception.

Calzaghe Clowns out in full force, upset that Froch will surpass their happy slappy, bottom feeding (thansk for phrase verballistic), good-not-great hero in perhaps three fights' time

To any Calzaghe fan reading this I have only the following the say:-

"I have no interest in fighting Roy Jones and no interest in Antonio Tarver. Jones is washed up and Tarver was never that good anyway, he just caught Jones when he was shot..and (Glen) Johnson did the same"

Antonio Tarver TKO2 Roy Jones Jr, 15/05/2004
Glen Johnson KO9 Roy Jones Jr, 25/09/2004

Joe Calzaghe vs Roy Jones 8/11/08 (points win!)

Nah, Willis has to take all the blame on his shoulders for that. Froch was just a kid, ffs.

As soon as I read the news story I thought "errr... but Carl, you're the one who never STFU about fighting Calzaghe, so bit rich to suddenly say you are bored of all the Calzaghe talk!". THAT is what is amusing.

Froch can potentially make 3 or 4 or more times the money for a Calzaghe fight than elsewhere. And he may not hold the belt all that long if he fights the way he did for 7 rounds versus Taylor.

If Calzaghe comes back it's cos Calzaghe will decide to, get bored , whatever...noone but Joe knows how he will feel after he suddenly goes a year with no big fight. It won't have anything to do with what Carl Froch says or does so Froch should just be quiet about Calzaghe. He should have changed tac months ago and just said "Joe's gone now, he's had a good career etc, now I'm the world champion" Like he's already part of the past...if anything that might have got Joe thinking. Simply slagging Joe off probably amuses Calzahghe as he knows he has got to Froch mentally.

I suspect I'm not alone in much preferring Froch to Calzaghe. He seems prepared to take risks and put it all on the line, which frankly was never Joe's forte. I can't ever envisage Froch putting in a snoreathon performance like Calzaghe did against the likes of Thornbury, Starie, Salem and Ashira. Froch wouldn't even bother fighting such deadbeats and pass them off as world title fights. Plus Froch is much more self critical and ultimately personable. Joe's interviews had all the charm and warmth of a sat nav.

I couldn't say who would win if they ever did meet (though it wouldn't be a foregone conclusion). But I certainly know who I'd be rooting for.

At least Froch has the bottle to fight the best, during his reign as world champion some of the time Calzaghe was happy to fight the likes of Tocker Pudwill and Will McIntyre!!!!

 RESPECT THE COBRA

I think this constant calling out of Calzaghe says one thing.
Froch is desperate for a big money fight - and that's probably the only one out there.
What is now getting ridiculous though is calling out a retired boxer.
I have a nervous feeling Carl doidn't earn a lot of money from the Taylor fight.
Anyone know the purse ?
Anyone know if there were meaningful stream sales ?
I have nothing but admiration for Carl following the last two performances, but it's all edge of the seat stuff, and I wonder how long it's going to be before he's put down, and doesn't beat the count.
Some how, some way, Meaty Mick has to find a way of getting Froch the opponent that will bring good money to the table, and a bit of charisma.
Has Meaty Mick got the financial backing to pull this off ?
Is he prepared to speculate to accumulate ?
Can he get Froch a TV deal worth having ?
One thing is for sure, it won't be Joe - so please, please enough of the tedious jibes, start calling out the names that matter, not retired boxers.
I wish Carl all the best, I really do, but he's no spring chicken and like it or not he has to bank the dosh quickly.

I agree with about all of that.

it seems to me, don't know about anybody else, that Joe has almost picked Carl's pocket. He has played it safe for a hell of a long time, though I was always a big fan of Calzaghe and although he fought some questionable oppo's he beat plenty of good ones too...some of the names that get banded on this forum Joe basically beat too easily, which isn't a crime..I don't want to get into that, but in beating Jones and also Hopkins , when they were past their primes, Joe has diminshed the marketability of both of those fighters...meaning 2 big money fights that Carl can't realistically go after.....although there was some talk of Hopkins earlier this week I understand...which would be no easy fight.
If Carl wants to out-do Joe, go knock out B-Hop.......I couldn't see him managing it though tbh.

That's one thing about boxing I'm not a big fan of. You could win fights for 20 years and you're only ever a KO from some clever fcker saying you're done and you got nowhere left to go.

For me.......get the Yank back over here, Nottingham arena......it holds either 5, more likely 10 thousand (about half the MEN). I wouldn't bother switching to the bigger arena for a while.
Then if Carl wins that......Kessler, either in Denmark or top of the bill in a big UK venue, by which I mean bigger than Nottinham.
There, sorted.

I dont see what a Taylor rematch does for Carl right now?

Jermain would be better getting some Top 10 wins under his belt of going for another title holder before going back to Froch.

For my money, Froch will perform a lot better in Nottingham in front of his own crowd and also knowing the fact that he knocked out Taylor last time.

I'd watch it though, but just feel other fights out there are more interesting.

Like the Miranda v Ward winner - as Ward is unbeaten and the American darling of late.

I don't think Froch h2h would ever beat Calzaghe in a million years.... But for the sake of all that is good about boxing, I hope he beats Kessler and Hopkins just to match Joe's major achievements. That Froch is brave enough to challenge himself to these tricky matches demonstrates a hunger for greatness that Calzaghe only demonstrated on maybe 5-6 occasions in 46 matches. I'm not anti Calzaghe but everytime I hear Calzaghe put on a largely undeserved pedastal its doing the other fighters, who actually deserve some acclaim, a huge injustice.

I dont think anyone is questioning Carl's desire Jeff far from it.
When you get to Carl's level it's a whole new ball game.
Talent is undoubtably still a major piece of the jigsaw, but so is PR, Promotion, TV, and financial backing to make the super fights happen.
In that respect, if there was a rematch for instance with Taylor, do you think ITV will be clamouring for it, or any of the other outlets ?
How much will it cost to get him over here ?
Maybe the answer is for Carl to stay in the States.

He really is thick as shit. :TU:

You missed out half of what he said.

He said Hatton left himself open to counters, took big shots, etc etc. The Froch used Lewis v Rahman as an example, and said "but that's heavyweight boxing."

Carl Froch, Britain's only world champ! I know they said that last week, but Hatton was really a world champion, and now he isn't.

With Hatton gone, I'd like to see Jamie Moore win a world title.
