More on Hatton's Training; Conflicts

From the Ring:

"Several sources close to the Briton’s camp stated anonymously that Hatton had a complex regimen of double training sessions: one with his trainer Floyd Mayweather, Sr. and then another of which Mayweather would be unaware."

Can't of been helpful, and no wonder Floyd was hacked off.

Sounds like it was a right circus there.

On boxingtalk Hopkins is saying Hatton (or his team) fired Mayweather before the fight :o Can't believe that though. He also says the loss came down to "stupidity and a lack of strategy"....

All irrelevant really... I thought he stood a good chance prior to the fight. Turns out he could have taken Chuck Norris into the ring with him for some tag-team 2 on 1 beatdown, and Manny would have kicked both their arses :box: :box:

this is undermining & disrespectfull,no wonder graham couldnt work with beard who obviously dont like playing second fiddle if this is the case.mayweather said to hatton from the start he doesnt stand a chance against the likes of young floyd if he doesnt manage himself properly & proffessionally,& not to come into camp to big, which billy g couldnt control.
im sure if hatton had not felt he was benefiting from mw snr he'd pump him sooner???the guys had nearlly 50 fights & can only blame himself.

I'd like to think so, but i have always had a small incling that Mayweather Sr was taken on (in part for his pedigree) but mainly as a bit of a gimmick to emphisise what a fun loving, colourful guy Hatton is "I'm hilarious, i can back that up by my choice of this odd ball trainer" It was all geared as part of the Hatton package!

For fcuk sake man, the dude can hardly string two sentences together in under a minute, and what does manage to pass his lips is usually garbage can trash talk. I would be very, very surprised if his IQ level is above 100. I find it fcuking hilarious anyone would have him in their corner.

Yeah, but DLH speaks highly of him, Guzman improved under him, and Forbes hasn't done too badly, either.

It's been doing the rounds for a while now that a member of TH has been slagging off Floyd to anyone that will listen. Reading the article on BBC it also seems true.

Nevermind, keep holding those bags lad! :box:

To me this smacks of everyone around in and around Hatton's camp feeding him self-belief and it's turned into arrogance. The man is becoming harder to like because of the deluded confidence and excuses he gave in defeat against both Mayweather and Pacman. After the fight against Floyd Jnr, Hatton was particularly bitter, and didn't make an awful lot of sense. After last weekend's fight he said he got caught and went down and it was one of those things...was it? Was it one of those things?

Don't get me wrong, I love Hatton, I love the passion that follows him, but all this shit seems to follow him around constantly.

i get the impression hatton got to pent up & the occasion does him aswell, while manny literally laughs @ the attention & gets excited for the fight.
not once did i hear manny reply to anything mw said, but hatton kept banging on about manny sparring khan,& they've got this & that wrong & how they have underestimated him it clearley unearthed him & got under his skin.
hatton said on himself "ricky hatton is a monster @ 10st a handfull" & that he'd be the quickest opponent manny had faced, not too far from the truth, but also the strongest aswell.
i like hatton im a big fan, but he can only blame himself,he should of retired himself with billy graham imo.

I dont think Hatton has the abilty to learn Mayweather's style.
Guzman, Forbes, Floyd Jnr etc have a natural flow that you cant teach Ricky.

No point in blaming Mayweather now.

Hattons problem goes back to the early days when he was getting by mostly average fighters using nothing more than strength and willpower, he was never given enough opponents where he had to use intelligence to beat them, yes he got by Tszyu who lets face it wasn't shot but had seen better days as was the same with Castillo. He was never prepared to beat Mayweather, he kept banging on about how Mayweather wasn't that big and how he'd be able to outmuscle him but when he realised Mayweather was stronger than him on the night he had no plan B, his whole fight plan had gone to pot.

Then after the Lazcano fight he links up with Floyd Sr. who I have never really rated all that highly, sure he knows the sport but he isn't a great cornerman and is too much of an ego-maniac who doesn't care about anybody but himself. Also Hatton surrounded himself with arse kissers who gave him a false sense of confidence in the lead up to these fights with Floyd Jr. and Pacquiao, I mean what the fornicate was he playing at rushing in with his chin in the air against both men and using no defence whatsoever.

They took a rough diamond out of the amateurs and instead of polishing it they just bragged about it until they ran into somebody with a better diamond.

Are you sure about that?? Are you sure?

OK, he might have been matched tougher earlier, which I would agree with -- but to say he got by his early opponents on nothing more than will power and strength is absurd.

i feel people draw a poor picture of hatton.early on in his career his strength was phenominal, exellent balance& pivoting like no other.he's wins apart from collazo he dominated every rd which aint no easy assighnment.
hattons switching up & down attacks were also very good.i think he peaked early imo & never progressed as his style is a workhorse not a craftsman,he built up massive support for getting so stuck in.
also like its been mentioned hatton going up to & over 14st @ times inbetween fights throughout a ten year career means he's put on & took off over 70 st :!: :!: :!: that aint good.

I think this is an excellent post. I think Hatton truly beleived that his strength was the key. Its all he mentioned in the build up to both this fight and his loss to Mayweather. 'He's never fought someone with my strength' 'I'm the biggest strongest Junior Welter out there'. Strength unfortunately was his weakness because he deserted the rest of his game when he became obsessed with it.

It seems like he kept repeating it to himself 'I'm bigger, I'm stronger, he can't cope with it'....he pretty much banked on it with Manny. The problem is, Graham and Kayes had nigh on perfected Hatton's strength based style (althoug at times it wasn't pleasing to watch). When he ditched them two and brought in Mayweather Sr he lost the strength conditioning and pressure style, the two things he excelled at. He sacrificed it for well, not much extra technical skill and physcial presence.

We all complained at his style post Tyszu but that unfortunately was the best he could do at the higher level, he couldn't box the way he did in his WBU days as he, and I mean this with no disrespect, simply did not have the skills to do so.

The fact there are so many people that are even debating if Hatton could have done any better or not again leaves me in amazement at the lack of knowledge..........perhaps i need to lower my expectations.

Ricky was just never that good, i would say that he is possibly one of the luckyiest boxers of all time to have made so much money out of so little skill.

Couldn't have put things better myself!!! :TU:

We disagree on a lot of issues - but concerning Ricky Hatton we don't!!

I am stunned due to his loss against a truly exceptional fighter he is taking so much sh*t - I am further stunned even his lass is taking sh*t - what the f*ck has she done wrong?

You always expect people to have their opinions - but to have so many people against Ricky has genuinally surprised me!!

He is a British fighter who has done bloody well for himself and British Boxing - good luck to him!!

With regards to the conflicts - My main gripe with Team Hatton is a simple one - in their quest for people who work with them to be of the highest standards and professionalism - have they coveted themselves in glory the way they have conducted themselves? - my personal answer to that is "No" - but there is nothing serious in what I say - they were merely over protecting to what I think they thought were percieved threats to their own priveleged positions.

Overall - I have positive thoughts concerning Ricky Hatton - he has done fantastic for himself and for the sport when it needed it in this country.

Thank Spud, seriously, he spurred me on, although when my phone rang I pissed on my shoes, so I am a little bit annoyed at him.

Then again the shock of actually answering my phone may have made me go a little bit mad. I've been at the King Crimson again.
I've been thinking of knocking something up for David's blog along these lines. It's the Tszyu bit that really boils my piss, because the idea that he was shot seems to have become the commonly held view. People say it now as if it's fact.

The context seems to have been forgotten. Mitchell was rated as the numer one in a VERY hot division, and in the lower parts of some P4P lists, and many people had him down to beat Tszyu -- enough to make him handy favourite. Yet Tszyu looked almost as good there as Pacquiao did against Hatton, and people were terrified. The feeling at the time was that Hatton had taken on the strongest of a very strong division, and an all time 140 pound great, and that he was going to lose. I remember Larry Merchant actually writing something along those lines -- that Tszyu deserved to be up there with the all time 140lb-ers and that he should win. Whether or not you agree with that, everyone had him in the top 3 P4P. EVERYONE. And before Hatton and since there has not been a shred of evidence to suggest Tszyu was declining.

So how on earth anyone can say Hatton hasn't beaten any elite fighters is beyond me. They're either liars or complete retards.

Tsyzu was 35 , he quit and then he retired after the fight....hence he was there to be taken.........plus styles, Zoo had ZERO footwork had already been beaton into a hoe by vince and people were basing their hero worship of Zoo on beating Mitchell & Judah & his joga exercises......Fwank knew all this then factor in the hand picked ref just like he knew Barrera was safe for Khan to feast on.............don't take much working out does it boy.

Even if someone was to convince me some of Hatton's opponents were not elite fighters - and okay some of you corrected me that he fought for titles not necessarily quality opponents this was his CV after the KT fight:
2005-11-26 - Carlos Maussa
IBF & WBA World Light Welterweight Titles

2006-05-13 - Luis Collazo
WBA World Welterweight Title

2007-01-20 - Juan Urango
IBF & IBO World Light Welterweight Titles

2007-06-23 - Jose Luis Castillo
IBO World Light Welterweight Title
Note: Fight was made against Castillo to increase his credibility etc etc rather than for the title!! :o

2007-12-08 - Floyd Mayweather Jr
WBC World Welterweight Title
At the time PBF was recognised as the P4P best fighter in the world!!! :o

2008-05-24 - Juan Lazcano
IBO World Light Welterweight Title
One of the biggest ever fights staged in the UK!!!

2008-11-22 - Paul Malignaggi
IBO World Light Welterweight Title
At the time Malanaggi was recognised as one of the threats to Hatton's supremecy at 140lbs!!!

2009-05-02 - Manny Pacquiao
IBO World Light Welterweight Title
Pacman was recognised as being the best P4P fighter due to the retirement of PBF!!!
For f*ck sake anyone who complains at the CV Hatton has above need their f*cking heads testing!! :o :o
