It's Mooresy Time!

It is often said that when one door closes – another one opens.

I see this happening in the UK boxing scene at the moment ….. Let me explain.

Following Ricky Hatton’s defeat at the weekend, the Hitman’s career is effectively over. And what a great career it has been. OK, he may well agree to fight Tim Bradley, Nate Campbell or Kendall Holt in Manchester as a final swansong – but that will be it.

What then …..

There will be a hole left in the UK boxing scene when Ricky goes, and I can see no one better but another Manchester star to fill that void – “Mr Excitement” himself Jamie Moore. :box:

Already European Champion, and gunning for world honours, Jamie Moore is already a massive name within the UK. His style would be lapped up by the Americans too, and the future can only be bright for Mooresy – who has more than earned his place at the table.

Having known Jamie for a number of years I can also vouch for him as being one of the most genuine guys in the sport today. The red side of Manchester already adore him, and I’m sure that the blue side will be equally captured if they aren’t already! It is my view that the rest of the country will follow suit, and the future can only be bright – for Manchester, the UK and boxing itself.

Jamie has been involved in many of the UK’s “Fight Of The Year” awards over recent years, with his trilogy of fights against Jones and also his barnstormer of a battle against Macklin being noted of some of the most impressive even witnessed in a British ring.

Jamie’s last two performances have been equally impressive, with his dismantling of former champ Michel Piccirillo to claim the EBU title a true joy to watch.

Las Vegas may well have dismantled another UK boxing star last weekend– but Jamie is Moore than ready to make amends.

It's Mooresy Time!

For the past year and a half I've been convinced he can win a world title.

Like you say, that win over Piccirillo was superb aggressive boxing.

Froch has won a belt and I know Jamie Moore can, at about the same age.

With Kirkland's career in trouble 154 pounds could do with an aggressive star...

OK i'm going to say it...Moore is over-rated but a good solid european level pro and a real pro's pro. He is not world class.

what belt holder do you fancy him against? Excluding Williams of course

I know Moore posts here but lets not get carried away lads. He went life and death with Macklin and all I saw on Saturday was a guy coming forward with a high guard picking his very very poor opponent off. Paul Williams would enjoy himself against Moore. Kirkland, Forrest, Spinks, Cintron and so on, they wouldn't even be contests. Lets be realistic here lads.

Moore`s straight left hand is a solid punch and I believe he would give almost all of the light middleweights a real handfull. He has improved solidly over the last couple of years and seems very focused now.

Give him his chance and get him a title fight.

well you don't sound like you're being realistic either. "wouldn't even be contests"?

he looks world class to me. piccolo could have made things very tricky yet moore cut the ring down quickly and belted him with an excellent array of shots.

williams is just a big gangler who throws sloppy amateur shots like tarver. yes he is awkward but he's not this "scourge of 3 weight classes" like some of the american head cases make him out to be.

get on the bandwagon, or shove off!

Lets hope that is the case, time to make da real cheddar!

Not World Class?

Pickleman was past his best but to get him out of there so quickly suggests he is World Class.

If it was life and death for 10 then I say NOT world class.

Get one of the champs in the ring and then we will see!

Are you having a laugh mate?

Williams vs Moore - I don't even think Jamie would think he could win that one. Forrest and Spinks would just outbox him easy and I wouldn't like to imagine what would happen if Cintron detonated one on Jamie. We all like the guy, but lets be realistic. He is the best in europe (big accomplishment!) but on world level, I would be surprised if he could win a round against the guys I mentioned.

@ autobarn

I do think that if his promotional cicrumstances or personality were different more questions would be asked about the level of his opponents over the last 3/4 years

He may have improved but who has he fought that would prepare him for the likes of Martinez, Williams, Santos etc

I know.

The only european in that lot at first glance (Z. Baysangurov aside) is a proper unbeaten banana skin in Germany.

I've only seen Sergio Martinez fight once, against Kermit Cintron, and I thought he looked very good. Very tough fighter to beat.

Still not sold on Moore. Could see him in some decent euro scraps but at world level I think he'd be made to look like a one dimensional plodder by the top boxers and blown away by the bangers at 154.

Williams and Martinez would pick him apart, Kirkland, Cintron and Angulo would have him out of there within 3-5 rounds and Spinks would outclass him. The only top boys who I could see him in with even the remotest shout of beating would be Santos and Forrest due to their age. I'm not sure about Dzinziruk, despite his wins over Santos and Julio, I haven't been hugely impressed with the guy despite the strap.

At the same time, I never saw Hatton as being capable of operating at the very highest level before Tszyu. Moore's definitely a better fighter than he was 4 or 5 years ago, but I've yet to see the sort of performance that would make any of the belt holders lose sleep. It's hard to put a lot of stock in the Piccirillo fight because the guy was pushing 40 and hadn't fought anyone with a heart beat since getting KO'd by Forrest 2 years earlier.

i have a feeling charlieb and moody in particular aren't much for believers in british boxers

were haye & froch going to win world titles?

"like fvck they were" (probably)

seems like spinks, williams and lacy the 2nd kirkland are being put on a bit of a pedestal

if they're so good why is light middle so drisly right now?

i agree forrest is classy but old. put a bit of pressure on and he panics.

put pressure on cintron and he'll sweat blood and bleed shit

knock cintron the out and he'll scream foul

marytinez didn't even convince vs cintron

I like Froch bigtime and want him to become a superstar in the game. Same goes for Haye and I think he has a big chance against Wlad.

However this Moore talk is complete garbage.

Forrest would outbox him for every second and probably blast him out quickly. Cintron would make Macklins punches (which really bothered Moore) feel like being hit by a pillow. Moore would find himself waking up next week wondering what happened.

It's good to get behind fighters, but a bit of realism needed here lads.

Stegsie started the thread, and to be fair, Manchester will need someone to focus on in the fight world if Hatton does take a back seat, and why not Jamie ?
Will he be able to convert the Blue Mooners, being a red ?
I would however like to hear Maloney's take on the next 12 months.
Come on Frank, what are your plans for Jamie over the next 12 months ?
Interesting to see on that list is Konecney - hopefully Rhodes next opponent - and slated at number 8.
The very man that a few on here said just wasn't good enough as his next opponent.
I hope Jamie gets his chance and proves the doubters wrong.
If we can get the pair of them steadily moving up the rankings then an all UK affair later on would be perfect.
A genuine 50/50 fight, with both fighters having the utmost respect for each other.
