the things non-boxing fans say...

When you get a crossover fight like Hatton Pacquiao it creates mainstream interest outside the normal fans.
This is generally good for boxing but it does have a negative. The know-alls who have an opinion on everything, suddenly become boxing experts and feel they need to come out with gems like this;
'why would you stay up until stupid o'clock to watch that? It only lasted 6 minutes. I mean if you knew it was going to last 12 rounds then ok, perhaps you would watch it, but 6 minutes! what a waste of money'
I'm sure you can add quite a few more.

Non-boxing fan: "So, your man had a fight last night against Pa...Pa...Pa..."
Me: "Pacquiao, Manny Pacquiao. Yeah, he was knocked out in 2 rounds."
Non-boxing fan: "Yeah, I thought he would lose."

I think that's the winner so far.
"That Pacquiao would murder Mayweather."
He'd have a chance to win of course but the tearful Manc leaving his seat at the MGM who said this was somehow trying to dismss the significance of his win.
Another one from Vegas when Calzaghe was at that weigh in after his fight with Hopkins was announced I was walking along behind a guy when he said
"Calzaghe will knock him out in 3 rounds. Guaranteed".
I still have the teeth marks in my tongue.

"Amir khan that boys a bit special " ( pre prescott )
"How did he manage to get beat" ( Post Prescott )
"Whens that colombian Guy that beat Khan fighting again"
"I think Khan would beat Hatton"
it changes like the Tide with these folk

Girlfriend during Khan/Barrera round 2: Who's winning
Me: Shhhh.
Girlfriend: Ughh, thats awful, why has he got all that blood on his face. Who have you bet on
Me: Barrera. The little guy.
Me: (Thinking) I have £X,XXX on this fight, I feel like throttling her
Girlfriend: He's not doing very well
Me: Sigh
Then she actually says something that surprises me
Girlfriend: Has he won a round yet?
Me (Caught between surprise at her having a rudimentary knowledge of the scoring system and sheer disgruntlement that Barrera hadn't actually won a round and was likely going to be stopped on the cut) No.
Her: It's not looking good.
(Fight waved off)
Her: So how much did you lose?
Me: £XXX
Her: I knew it.
(Skip forward to morning after Hatton/Pac, watching news)
Her: Why didn't you bet on that instead of that silly bet where you lost £XXX?
Me, who nearly did (Thinking: Kill me now.)

It's the whole "how the fornicate has he lost before then" attitude towards it. My answer is always the same "Morrales and two guys early in his career" - I think part of it is the facination with the 0, which also grates on me.

My mum watched one of my amateur fights years ago where i lost on points after she said "he had a better aim than you"
*oh shut up mum"
My ex girlfriends daughter once turned to me while a fight was on telly "why do they always hug each other"
"its called a clinch"

One I am hearing from an aparent boxing fan is that the reason Joe Calzaghe didn't fight in the states often and isn't a popular as Ricky Hatton or had the superfights is because he is Welsh.
Joe's Welshness is the reason why he had to wait 10 years for a Super Fight!!!!
