Quigley gets Magee

Tony Quigley will make the 1st defence of his British Title against Brian Magee on July 4th.

Venue is Liverpool Olympia

If Tony comes thru this then defends against Paul Smith, then that is what you call a fighting champion.

they say titles make fighters better, you know this kid will knuckle down now.
i hope smith does b'coz the winner of this bout will star as favorite,so i hope smith is fazed & gets himself into shape,b'coz i get the impression he's a fighter if not concerned his urgency aint there as he thinks he's allready won, that's just an observation based on some performances & interviews.

I think that's fair that Magee gets the first crack as he did only give up his title to help save the Hayemaker bill. Should be a good fight but you'd have to make the far more experienced Magee a solid favourite.

We are on the defensive aren't we Twenty Six???

I was referring to this thread:

Read Page 3 and then Page 4 - bloody hell I thought you were a lawyer and could remember what you said!!!

In particular these posts:

I think Magee may well have another plan.
I don't - I am willing to bet Hayemaker have "options" on Quigley due to Magee stepping aside due to the injury - and in addition I am willing to bet Brian Magee will fight for the British Super Middleweight Title - then if he wins that he will then have another pop at the European!!! :TU:

Quigley is managed by Steve Wood and promoted by Frank Maloney - but to get the shot at the British Title they would have had to relinquish options on Quigley maybe for a fight or 2 - which brings in Brian Magee - and if I am wrong on the Magee side of things you can bet that either Dodson gets a rematch or Quigley will certainly make his first defence on a Hayemaker show.
I concede you later on in the thread bow to my better knowledge!! :TU: :TU:

For the record, on 31-03-09 at 8.59pm I posted the following.

"Ok, confession time. I've called this one wrong.
I agree with Spud.
Quigley v Magee will happen within 8 weeks"

Did that not boost your ego enough, Spuddly ?
Actually, I got the date wrong, but hey, you're the only perfect one around here mate. :KO:
Are you Beagleboy's love child ?
Are you Beagleboy in disguise ?
You're becoming a worst stalker than him of my posts recently.
I think I know you better than a lot around here, so it's already flown over my head. :TU:
I wasn't being defensive mate.
Just got your point wrong.
Thought you were referring to the fact Rhodes wasn't fighting until September.
Love and best wishes ..

Magee's not quite the fighter he was but I think he'll still have enough to beat Quigley.
Quigley for me really should be fighting at Middleweight, those extra 8 lbs just seem to be excess fat, and he's putting himself at a disadvantage.

I think Magee will outbox Quigley for the full 12 and there won't be any throwing it away late like Dodson did. Still, it's a good fight and one i'm looking forward to attending if I can. I'll be cheering on Quigley though as I would love to see a Liverpool battle of Smith-Quigley for the british title.

I like Quig, he fought with a lot of heart.

But Magee is naturally the bigger man, having fought for a spell at light-heavy.

He can punch, has good workrate and that southpaw stance.

I think Brian stops him in the 7th.

If Quig beats Magee, i will be very impressed :TU:

I really want to see Brian win this one. I also think he has far too much - got to say though this is Magee's last chance in my view.

According to Saturday's Liverpool Echo, tickets are now on general sale. May be worth giving the Olympia box office a ring.
