Funny how someone who has made his post boxing media carrer out of having fought ali who did far worse to gode opponents should have such a problem with the T-shirt.

He reckons Haye is driving fans away? This is the kind of stuff that makes them watch a fight that otherwise would have went under the radar. They'll have a full soccer stadium on the night.

God almighty that guy is one very bitter man.

Cooper has always been quick to big himself up. I remember an interview he did with 'The Independent' a few years ago, where he was adamant that he'd have beaten Lewis.

Cooper doesn't sound bitter to me, he just says he didn't like the t-shirt, which is fair enough.
he also says
"Out of all the heavyweight contenders he's got the most potential. He moves well and looks good," said Cooper, who fought Muhammad Ali twice.

"He has a good punch and at between 15-16 stone he is the right weight for a heavyweight - more mobile than most.

"Those who are 18-20 stone are at a disadvantage. He's not a fighter who takes punches to land his own."

Doubt it, Haye has done more than Cooper has already.

the 'one punch then beaten' bit... in 30 years that will be the salient point, should it happen. Enzo and the CT loss will lose importance but losing to WK will remain the tip of the arc... should it happen

God I love Henry Cooper

I've love Hayes T-shirt, it must be a generational thing! Our Henry does sound bitter, and he has done in a few interviews I've seen of him.

Henry Cooper would still be world champion but for the split glove, even at 75.

Look he earns a fish supper and a pint every night spouting this stuff. I often wonder whether he';d have been more gracious about everyone had he got the nod versus Bugner retired on his own terms etc.

His bitterness knows no limits.

He only weighed 4stone 9 when he fought Ali you know.

The soft landing for Ali, was a new strand of his argument for being better than GOAT.

He seems to overlook his other drubbings at world-class level. Didn't Ingo Bingo starch him? That wasn't cuts was it?

And his manager ran a mile from chalenging Liston.

And didn't Patterson do to him what Liston did to Patterson? And how much heavier was Patterson than Cooper? Half a stone -- max.

Anyway, I'm not sure he's bitter. I thought the interview came across just fine. He said "I don't like to see this stuff in boxing, but I think Haye's a great fighter who looks good."

Not too much wrong with that, even though I personally thought the T-Shirt was great, from a psychological point of view.

Cooper was far too small to beat Lewis. Not a fair fight. Compare him with Enzo Mac or Haye or Hide.

I have to agree with Henry. Haye is a nice guy and Wlad also seems like a decent bloke, so why all the anti-Wlad stuff from Haye? The fight is on, the millions are pending...
Haye, not Henry, is the one coming across as bitter.

Henry Cooper, former British, Commonwealth and European champ, fought Muhammad Ali for the world heavyweight title, beaten world title challengers Zora Folley and Brian London, Karl Mildenberger, fought Floyd Patterson...

And David Hayes knocked out a 37 yr old Monte Barrett. And he's not even fighting the best heavyweight in the world for his world title challenge.

Is this the Lewis who always had the knack of blocking left hooks? Did so in many fights, including the dangerous Tua one. Cooper never beats Lewis. As Big DP rightly states, Cooper's manager was fearful of Liston, imagine how they would react to Lennox!

Aye, agree with you in that he was not a killer, but I feel that Lewis had his own intimidation factor. I do like Cooper, as a fighter, but it would have been a bridge too far him. I'm a big Cleveland Williams fan. People often forget the fight that Liston had with him.

Lennox intimidated by looking like he didn't give a toss. Could be he was still dopey from his nap, mind.

Lennox also avoided Ruddocks vaunted left hook/uppercut.

To be fair to Henry, he has written about the Patterson fight and it was quite a funny account and he admits he got his arse handed to him.

However, when I imagine all he gets questioned on is the Ali fight.... well he's got to keep answering the questions.

as I say I just thought it was strange that Cooper who would have been around when Ali was attacked by a friend in a gurriller suite etc and he appriciates that Ali was good for boxing. I deffinatly don't think this is pushing people away from the fight it adds to the hype.
