Iain Weaver was the class fighter of those finals for me - lovely style and he dealt with a tough opponent well. Heffron was good too - he will make a cracking pro when the time comes. :TU:

Have to agree!!

I obviously thoroughly enjoyed seeing Liam Cameron win but agree with your "fighter" of the night.

Yes - Hannah (lovely lass from the ABAE) was updating live from ringside.

Results and reports now up at BBN.

Glad to see that the likes of TT have picked out the same ones to watch as I did.

Stalker got pipped in a close one - his opponent certainly knew what he was doing.

It was an entertaining mix - six or so that will feature in Commonwealth Games trials and stay on the road to London 2012.
Sadly, for the first time since I've been covering the ABAs as a professional (1984) there was not one national newspaper reporter in the audience. I never saw anybody from my ringside seat.
Let's hope that a few proper writers show up in Liverpool on May 29 - the sport needs coverage and the men and women at the ABA in charge of getting the message out need to find out why there was no national coverage.

The sad thing is I remember both of us looking around at ringside at the Michael Brodie/In Jin Chi fight and you stating something similar to me - a lot of the journalists would have turned up if their lord and master (a certain promoter) had something to do with things but alas he didn't.

These lads are the future of our sport - I admit I do not like journalists very much - however it still does not diminish from the fact they need to get their fingers out of their arses and do even more for the sport than what they are presently doing!!!

Yeah, thanks for that.

Actually, I do know what you mean. Had it been in London there would have been at least half a dozen. They just can't be arsed.

You pissed last night?

What happened with Andy Kerr? Totally OTT and unprofessional. Watched it with a few pals who already think you're a complete wanker and you only confirmed it. No wonder boxing is in the mess it is with people like you cheerleading it. You were a disgrace - hope you apologise on the next edition of your show.

Not sure if he boxed this year or not, but I once got stopped by Joe Harvey, last years losing heavy finalist. That guy hits hard, however I hadnt been training and just fought at heavy out of lazyness, I am only 5ft 8, oops. Trained after that painful lesson and went back down to 75kg!!!

I remember after the first count the ref asking if I wanted to box on, I recall thinking, "Uhm, fcuk no!" but saying, "Yes" and wondering which prick had said it!!!

After the last count (three in total) he asked again, now I was mad as the other two were standing counts and this one was a dropping, first time I had actually touched down in a contest or the sparring and said and meant, "fcuk yes" but he said, "sorry son, I think you have had enough" and I remember saying like a twat, "Yeah, I think your right, cheers mate.!"

Thought Stalker was robbed, but then that tends to happen in the amateurs.
