Dave Parris tonight.

What the hell was that about. Both Sexton and Rogan looked completely dumbfounded by his display. He completely lost the plot. Totally shambolic. Its not the first time. It was a bizarre end but in fairness to Rogan, Parris lost the plot.

But it's the ref's job to stop the fight if he sees fit and Rogan's job to keep punching until the ref jumps in or he KO's his opponent. As Freddie Roach said to Manny P during the De La Hoya fight "it's your job to knock him out!"

the referee took the call from the 80k a year ringside Doc.
Rogan guessed at 2 fingers with his swollen eye....it was 3!! What could the ref do? If Rogan gets fcked up there of the 17st plus Sexton, what happens then after he's been allowed to go on blind in one eye?

Agreed. But he jumped in between them when Sexton had his back turned to the fight, heads down, completely gone and his head hanging over the corner post and warns Rogan for about 10-15 seconds about rabbit punching. The replay showed that not one punch landed on the back of Sexton's head at that point.

I dont think theres any issue with the stoppage it was correct but the timing was bizzare.
I thought he jumped in too quickly at times

The whole point was Sexton was gone, Rogan was on the verge of winning when Parris dragged The Irishman off Sam to stop it. He should have at least let it go to the end of the round

No problems with the stoppage. I would even agreed if it had been stopped a round earlier. But throughout the fight he kept on stopping the action and warning them for no apparent reason. I just can't fathom why he chose the moment he did to pull Rogan up for an alleged rabbit punch which never was in the 8th considering that Sexton had just fallen to the side and was slouching in his own corner with his back turned.

Thing is, what if he'd guessed right? That doctor clearly would have preferred not to make the decision or he'd have made it earlier.
Parris was poor from the start. A lot of textbook ref actions, just all applied at the wrong times to the wrong instances. I'm sorry if that's harsh, cos he's a good ref, but it was a poor show.

It wasn't a great performance by Parris, but still Rogan had the chance to finish him and didn't take it. The doctor had seen him a couple of times and so he knew he was on borrowed time and he should have stopped Sexton. No matter how much of an off night Parris had, Rogan cost himself the victory.

Yes Rogan blew a golden opportunity but he was on top of him in his own corner about 30 seconds before it when Parris decided it was time to issue a warning. I mean Sexton had literally turned his back on the action as his legs were gone. Does that not warrant at least a word?

A thing that has always got me about that kind of stoppage was that the injury was not obtained via a punch but a head clash. For Sexton to dismiss a rematch considering how it ended is absurd.

That was a disgraceful perfomance and he is the so called strictest ref in Britain and he didn't give Sexton a points deduction for very excessive clinching.

i was in and out, there did seem to be the odd break...the one that stood out to me was when Rogan tried to apologise for tha naughty elbow at the end of round 4 and the ref didn't let him...to be fair he wouldn't have done it had he been winning it looked like frustration.
the ref was asked to take a look at Rogan's clearly shutting eye after about round 4 or 5 and he just said, that's fine!!! Rogan had barely made it to the corner...no way was that Doctor stopping it so early......it should be inspected actually that incident.

In fairness no ref ever does. John Ruiz has got away with it for his whole career and Skelton is bad for it to but how many points deductions? Not many if indeed any.

Rogan claims that Parris threatened to DQ him in the 1st. There should be a rematch and Parris should be no where near it.

Based on Sexton's response after the fight I would say Rogan. I don't think Sam's chin is bad as in the earlier rounds he took them flush and was okay. I just think he has little stamina and I can't see him ever doing 12 high paced rounds. He was totally out of the game in the 8th and it was as much exhaustion as anything else.

it looked to me like Rogan chose to stand off, at least for a few seconds before any intervention.
Sexton though didn't have a fckin clue. His hands were DOWN and nothing to do with the ref at all. He was just waiting to get taken out!! Even the commentator (what do they know lol) said that Sexton was just waiting to be stopped.
If Rogie jumps in there and throws leather, he's still C'wealth Champ, and Sexton gets laid out, potentially a-la Ricky Hatton, except it's worse at Heavyweight......Rogan was very sporting in my book and whatever the result that shouldn't be detracted from. However this is boxing. Sexton was very lucky.
He OWES Rogan a Rematch and I think he will see that when he gets home, reads my post, and offers him one

Agreed but the notion of being sporting in a top level boxing match by not punching a groggy opponent is completely insane. I can only imagine Marty thought Sexton was indicating he had enough which Adam Smith also thought.

parris chosing that moment to halt the fight and call in the doc for what he must of known would be the end of the fight was a bit like a football ref blowing for full time at 1-1, 5 seconds after the 3 extra time minutes have expired and one of the strikers is in the box with an open goal

rogie was f**king robbed tonight, the ref should of stopped it when sexton was in no fit condition to fight on 2 occasions,
and if the ref looked at the fight properly, he would of seen the first big punch that had sexton rocked he (sexton) had to hold onto rogan and they clashed heads in the clinch so in my opinion the fight (fair enough it was stopped on the eye) should of went to the scorecards with rogan winning by at least 1 or 2 rounds
If sexton wont give Rogan a re-match, He should be stripped of the title
