Agree, i thought it was a really good performance from Sexton away from home.

Don't think he'll go any further than British though, and i don't think he's got a big enough chin to stay there as well.

Agree, it was a bad injury, but I had it fairly level at the time of the stoppage. There needs to be rematch. If there isn't then Sexton needs to be judged for that. I'm sure Sexton would love a rematch against Chisora, so he needs to be fair.

Rematch please in England.

If there isn't a rematch then I would be disappointed in Sexton. Like I have said, I bet he would love the chance to avenge his only loss. And I'm sure Rogan would come to England. It's a must after the way the fight was ended. It was very close when stopped.

His use of the head led to his eye damange and i am surprised his corner or the doctor didnt pull him out after the 7th.
Good fight and i would like to see a rematch but lets give Sam some credit for fighting the way he did as i had him 5 rounds up going into the 8th
It was Dave Parris, Mark, not Richie Davies :D

Love to see a re-match and i think that Rogan could take Sexton, because Sexton won't be able to use that style of working on the outside for the full 12 rounds. He has'nt got any punching power and whilst he hurt Rogan a few times, it was Sexton that was coming off the worst in the exchanges. I think had it not been for the injury, self inflicted or not, then Rogan would have stopped Sexton inside the next two rounds. Don't know how you had Sexton 5 rounds ahead after 8 rounds :-? I had it about even, with Sexton perhaps one round ahead, at the very most two rounds, if i was being ultra generous to Sexton. I was'nt very happy with Parris' performance. Sexton turned himself and that's why Rogan hit him on the back of the head and Parris gave Sexton way too much time to recover. Then he goes and brings the referee in with about 40 seconds to go, when he should have allowed the round to finish, because it was obvious that the referee was'nt going to let it continue beyond that round anyway. If Parris had'nt of intervened like he did, then there was a 75% chance that Rogan was going to finsh Sexton and it's not as if that eye was going to get any worse in the next 40 odd seconds, because it was Rogan who was on top and Sexton defending himself. Having said that, Rogan, whilst a gentlemen for what he did, should have waded into Sexton and finished him off and he paid the price for not doing so. I will go for Rogan in a re-match and i can't see Sexton keeping his newly acquired commonwealth title for very long, i think we have seem what his limitations are and it's no more than a handy domestic fighter. European and world level are way out of Sexton's reach and for that matter so is the case with Rogan. I will finsih by saying that they were a credit to heavyweight boxing, because compared to some of the dross we have seen in recent years, Williams, Sprot, Harrison, Skelton, at least these guys put on a show, so full marks to both guys for that.

Yes, Sexton deserves some credit.... he has some pop cause he had Rogan out on his feet a few times... hurt him more than Skelton did. People are forgetting this.

Sexton was winning the fight comfortably untill Rogan went for broke. Got to give Rogan some credit though - amazing fitness. He was within a punch or two of being stopped in the 7th (which wouldn't have been a bad stoppage, given the eye damage also).

Does anyone think the eye was worst on second inspection... sure Rogan didn't get the number right and it was possibly the correct thing medically to do... but was it any worst than on the first inspection.

Dave Parris has been making mistakes on a few high profile fights now. Matthews vs Choi, Khan vs Barrera. How old is he?

i have said sorry to Mr Davies for dragging his name through the mud  I have now watch the fight twice and Rogan was on his last legs in the 7th. He knew his only chance of victory was try and force the stoppage in the 8th. Sexton also trying to continue his good work for the previous round and this played into Rogan's hands. IMO Rogan had punched himself out by the midway point of the 8th and when Parris stopped the action to speak to the doctor both men had stopped throwing punches and were knackered. I still think if Sexton had rode the storm, which had almost done Rogan would of had very little left. I hate to see a fighter hurt in the ring and Rogan should maybe been pulled out at the end of the 7th as his eye was shut and he could of been seriously hurt. There will be a rematch.
I can see your point of view and it's a valid statement to make, that could have plenty of truth about it, but i still feel that if Parris had not stopped the fight for the supposed illegal blow and not been as hasty to bring the referee in, then Rogan would have stopped Sexton. If you listen to Jim Watt, he actually says, "all it will take is one more punch....." and then literally seconds after he says that, Rogan stops punching because of Sexton's gumshield coming out and yet yet again, Parris gave far too much time for that. I hope there is a re-match and as i said before, an injury free Rogan will stop Sexton next time round.

One thing for sure in my opinion, is that the later the fight went on, Rogan would have been in with a good shout of stopping Sexton.

i dont think so because he was gone and had nothing left. He went out in the 8th to give it his last shot and when the ref stopped it had very little left IMO.
I thought he went out to stop it in the 8th because of the eye issue?

He did seem to flag abit, especially in the seventh, but if the fight lasted any longer than it did, then surely Sexton would have slowed also? That's were i feel Rogan would have took over.

Come on Quix i cant believe you were taking Jim Watts' comments into consideration because last night he had a worse night than the Ref and Rogan combined.
I don't need Jim Watt to back up my argument, Mark, it's all there written down on previous posts. All i was doing was pointing out that someone else, an ex pro and world champion at that, had a very similar take, in respect of Rogan being only a couple of shots away from stopping Sexton and keeping his title. My use of Jim Watt's comments as some form of validation to my argument, is no worse than you having Sexton five rounds ahead after eight rounds :D You must have been on the houch, with too many regulars buying you one

I'd be more inclined to give Sexton credit if it werent for the deliberate rubbing of his head into Rogans eye, the persistant holding, turning his back, hiding his head in the turn buckle, spitting his gumsheild out and the cheap shot by preying on Rogans good nature.

Apart from that he was brilliant.

Sexton is a disgrace who was saved by his own poor sportsmanship and poor refereeing. I am so looking forward to seeing him smashed into oblivion after that.

i always respect your opinion Quix and i do realise you dont need Jim Watt to guide you  Yes Rogan was a couple of shots away from winning the title but didnt put Sexton down and was done after the effort of trying to gert the KO. How did you score the fight? because if i remember rightly i scored rounds 1-5 & 7 to Sexton and round 6 to Rogan although the first could of gone either way or scored level the fact is Sexton was winning and quite easily. Dont get me wrong i like Rogan but always knew he would found out as his crude style is exciting to watch but with the right game plan beatable. If Rogan had been stopped by the Ref or pulled out by his corner after 7 what would we talking about? i'll tell you, we would say how Sexton about boxed a game but crude fighter who's good run came to an end at the hands of a better boxer.
As i said before, i had the fight pretty equal, with Sexton one round ahead, perhaps two rounds ahead if i was feeling charitable. In a way, the Rogan injury made the fight quite hard to gauge, because it dramatically altered the tactics of Rogan, who knew that he had to go out for a stoppage in the 8th round, where as, had he not recieved that injury, he would have paced himself more and got to sexton around the 10th or 11th round. Then you had Parris' intervention with the illegal blow, gumshield and finally the injury itself. It's hypothetical to say what view we would have had of the fight, had Rogan been pulled out in the 7th, as it's equally hypothetical to try and view the fight from a "what if...." scenario, that had Rogan been injury free and been capable of taking the fight into the latter rounds, would he have stopped Sexton. I happen to believe the latter and that's why there has to be a re-match, so that either fighter can win the fight with no incriminations.

i believe Rogan brought the eye problem on himself by going in with the head add that to hitting a fighter when he had his back turned, a fore arm smash after the bell and the use of the head then you right he is a good natured chap. If Rogan is stupid enough to stop when a guy is there for the taking that's not Sexton's fault. Sexton was giving Rogan a bit of a boxing lesson with a perfect game plan to beat a rough house brawler the fact he was holding is part of the sport and part of stopping a fighter on the inside, its called tactics.
Mark, that is possibly the most bollock post I have read on this forum ever - and DG posts here so that is saying something!

I think you need to watch the fight again closely - as I have - and then come back and attempt to reiterate those points.
