Scott Belshaw set to face Tyson Fury on Saturday

Tyson Fury is out to make a statement of intent at the Watford Colosseum this Saturday when he takes to the ring for his first scheduled eight-round contest.

The undefeated heavyweight sensation has stopped all five of his professional opponents to date and he's hoping that Scott Belshaw will become victim number six.

Fury appears on the undercard of the Darren Barker/Darren McDermott Commonwealth middleweight title clash.

Northern Ireland's Belshaw had been due to fight in Belfast at the weekend but his contest fell through at the last minute - leaving him free to face Fury.

"My promoter's offered Belshaw the fight and all his demands have been met so lets hope he doesn't chicken out now," said Fury.

"His team have said that he's up for it and he's got everything he asked for so the only thing I need to know now is that he's going to turn up on Saturday night."

Belshaw, a five-time Irish amateur champion, has just one defeat (later avenged) on his 11-fight pro record with seven of his 10 wins coming inside the distance. The 6 foot 7 inch, 23-year-old has been hailed as the second coming of George Foreman by promoter Frank Maloney, but Fury isn't taking that prediction too seriously.

"I don't expect to be buying a Scott Belshaw grill any time soon but I can promise him a roasting on Saturday night. Some people seem to think he's a top prospect but we'll find out who the real deal is at the weekend.

"I'm up for fighting any of these other so-called prospects because there's no point in me going around saying I'm the best young heavyweight out there unless I'm willing to back it up.

"I'll be ready to make a move on the British or Commonwealth titles this year and what I saw in Belfast on Saturday night with Sam Sexton taking the Commonwealth title from Martin Rogan backs that up. I offered to take on Sexton in his back yard in just my third pro fight but he didn't want to know so he's already running scared."

Fury is just back from a trip to Germany where he got in some quality sparring ahead of this weekend's contest.

"I've been finding it hard to get sparring in the UK let alone opponents so it was good to travel over to Germany where most of the top guys are based these days.

"It was great to get some quality sparring under my belt over there and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and hopefully it will show in my performance on Saturday."
The deal has just been signed this very minute and the Belshaw grilling machine goes on sale on 20th May.

So how do we see this one going ?

Peret beat Belshaw (wgho later beat Peret on points)

Fury beat Peret on a RSF.

Fury carries low hands with a fair bit of speed, Belshaw has that big punch that has made so many see stars ?

Fury will demolish him as he pleases. I saw Belshaw's rematch with Peret and he was awful. And I mean that in the kindest way. Unless he's improved massively in the interim, even the green Fury will smash him to pieces.

Of course.........WTFDIK.

I hope Belshaw wins as i cant stand Fury his Dad has filled his head with so much rubbish and he and ITV seem to believe it they hype him as if he is the second coming the only reason hes got the attension he's got is because of his name I dont think he'll get past European level
It should be a good fighter the boxer vs the puncher still think Fury will have to much for him 4th round stoppage IMO

It's still a decent match at this stage of Fury's career.

I expect to Fury to have too much speed, ability and power to stop Belshaw early, but there's always a chance Tyson might walk on to one.....

just like price, i would have to give belshaw a chance vs Fury because of the one shot power, and because he's oneof very few men who match Fury's stature.

5-0-0 Fury vs 10-1-0 Belshaw, sounds competitive enough.

"The deal has just been signed this minute"... The fight is this weekend, isnt it? Has Belshaw had enough notice??

I certainly hope so. From the outside it appears the contest is being manipulated by Hennessey in favour of Fury (and thats even before the respective strengths of the fighters are considered). Hennessey Sports have had Belshaw in mind as a possible Fury opponent for a while and so why, with 6 days to fight night has Belshaw now only been offered proper money to fight Fury?

If it is the case that Belshaw hasnt had full and proper notice for the fight (as appears to be the case), then a win for Fury will certainly lack full credibility regardless of what Meaty Mick says afterwards.

Im not saying that it is the case, but I dislike it when fighters are given "shots" at bigger name prospect but only on short notice, thereby putting the "challenger" at a distinct advantage (in terms of proper preparation, physically/technically and mentally). There is little point staging the contest if both men arent given the adequate opportunity to get themselves fully prepared.

The fact that Belshaw was supposed to fight last Saturday night against someone other than Fury (IMO) does not prepare him for a fight with Fury this weekend, especially given the magnitude of the fight for Belshaw.

Good fight.

I how George Foreman Mk 2 comes out swinging and at least tests Fury's chin.

Would be nice to see how he deals with being under pressure himself for a change.

I think this is a great fight and really brave matchmaking considering Fury is a novice. Belshaw is a bit raw but he is stong and has a real punchers chance in this one.

Cracking fight.

I agree and this always seems to happen with Fury's opponents so far. Its taking advantage of the fact that most the fighters cant afford to turn down the money/ITV exposure.

I agree to with what you guys are saying. Belshaw was not training for a fight with Fury but a fight with Jason Callum that fell through at the last minute then Dave Ingleby was called in but couldn't get the time off work and the opponent changed again and fell through again. This left Belshaw without a purse and a fight. He wants to fight and after taking time off work to train for a bout he needs the cash. He is in good shape but has not been working on a tactic for a Tyson Fury fight. Fingers crossed he can get a bit of work done early this week and try to establish some sort of game plan.

The problem with Irish based fighters is they really have to take whatever they are offered, especially in the divisions with lower numbers of fighters.

Should be an interesting fight between two prospects (regardless of what Fury thinks). Will the roasting that Fury has promised win the bout ? (I hope he means in the boxing ring and nowhere else  ) Or will Belshaws grilling take the bout ?

So let me get this right, if Belshaw was in training but did not expect to fight Fury then his training does not qualify for sufficient preparation? Well then the same has to apply to Fury himself - Fury is also taking this fight at the last minute. Fury is the novice here who is fighting regularly - good on him.

fury has been a breath of fresh air since he arrived on the scene. with his carl froch/david haye/junior witter mentality, I can see him going very very far in the game.
