Can this really be a Sky top of the bill?

May 29: Chris Edwards 12 (4KOs)-13-3 Usman Ahmed 5 (0KOs)-1-1

This must set a new low watermark in quality.

A rematch of Ahmed's debut. How can the Board or Sky approve these crap matches? It's killing the sport on TV and killing the value of the British title. And the joke is that Sky turned its nose up Froch, told Dennis Hobson they would not put on Clinton Woods in a world title eliminator and are apparently dropping Warren, despite him putting on the only decent Friday Fight Night in ages last week.

Sky really is the pits.

for all that, it would make a nice second fight on the bill on a small hall show
:P

It amazes me why UK TV companies don't apply the US mentality of opening fights up to all channels and don't commit to long-term contracts with promoters. You'd soon see the quality go up.

Well the rumours were that they were going to give Warren's Friday night dates to Hatton.

I think Hatton will be as well existing fight contracts. His agreement was for two years I remember reading. Hatton promotions have not got the fighters yet for TV.

I don't think this is a new low, Cleverly's opponents spring to mind. If Sky are happy with these sorts of mismatches what incentive is there for the promoter to raise the standard?

Sky told me they would never sign with W arren again. Should have stuck to it.

Its a flyweight fight, so there isn't going to be much fighters around and they rejected Eddie Hyland fighting for the European title.

Hobson has himself to blame for Woods not getting exposure because he is doing a bad job with Woods

Heard the same thing!!!

Things are getting that bad I have also heard that a well known promoter is desperately trying to persuade the BBC to get involved in things again and also Channel 5 have been asked.

Things are bad for the sport with regards TV - very bad!!!

Agreed mate, he has got Woods chance after chance at world belts, when the guy doesn;t sell many tickets and is very limited. Maybe in a way that has worked out for him as the champions always see him as very beatable so are willing to face him, either way, Hobson has done a great job with Woods imo.

ok, so I may be showing my age, but remember the 80's? ITV and BBC arguing over fight rights? Beeb with Harry Carpeneter seemed to have it wrapped, then I remember the Tyson years and ITV got all the fights 'cos their man knew the biz. Then some other cock took over and boxing disappeared for a while. I get the feeling the same thing is happening with sky. Not sure who the dude in charge is, but it seems sky only want fights they can show on ppv. Come on setanta - this is your chance.

Never again should we let our only proper world champ go without exposure on british tv....

Genius! The thing is, there's a hundred blokes on here who could look at half the main events served up and just say 'No, that will be a one-sided bag of shite." The detail of the contract must be interesting but Sky must know from feedback that fans aren't receiving the type of rubbish we got tonight very well at all.

Contract renewal time will be interesting.... Khan PPV is contract is coming to an end after Kotelnik, isn't it.

I'm guessing Warren signed a deal with Sky to showcase a certain number of bills headlined by a "meaningful" title fight. I'm sure Sky feel aggreived with the quality they have been showcasing - so contract renewal time will be interesting.

Does the deal expire for the whole Warren package or just Khan?

the thing is , does anybody from sky read boxing forums to see how disgruntled fans are with the fights that are being served up on a friday night.

also do any of us send feedback to sky letting them know of the tripe being served up each week. maybe if we avoided their ppv's they would know all about it. thats all they seem to care about these days. i know for me that would be very hard to do. but the khan card looks very weak for a ppv. is small v hall , or the enzo fight worth paying money on top of a normal subscription. even on the recent hatton ppv , that dragged on. even the ppv bills are barely passable now. a ppv needs more than one headline fight to sell it imo.

i know lots of people on this forum have cancelled sky sports but sky propably dont know most of these were subscribing just for boxing.

ian , i think i remember you saying before there was a time sky used to turn down fights for not being competitive enough. nowadays it seems everything goes and it does not matter what matches are made.

looking foward to the hennessey bill tonight. in fact i cant remember the last time i was disappointed by a hennessey bill. reaaly look forward to when they come around. have really enjoyed the last couple of hayemaker shows as well. the main reason i think is less time constraints and better match making. we generally dont see unknowns on their bills.
