Not heard of this one before- "vacant WBC Mediterranean lightweight title"

So what area does that cover, exactly?

Hope to hope that we don't see WBC British Isles titles etc.

Spain, France, Italy, Greece, Israel, Turkey, LEbanon, Syria, Cyprus, Egypt, Lybia, Algeria, Tunisia, Morrocco, plus, if they want to stretch it, Croatia, Mentenegtro, and Albania, too. Which they probably will.

The WBC, and the rest of them are a joke. The BBBofC should refuse to sanction them.

There's nothing wrong with geographical championships, in my opinion, so long as they stick to the area in question. Unfortunately it's more likely the Mediterranean belt will be contested by Inuits and Maoris.

The problem is, Oliver, that they're (probably deliberately) overlapping. You might have African, North African and Mediterranean, then European, and Mediteranean.

Belths like the Mediterranean have no real history, there isn't a great deal of geographical unity in that area, and certainly little in terms of shared sporting heritage.

It's just another effort to fill the coffers.

The WBC are a bloodsuckers.

Of course you are right, but at least it's a definable championship OF something, unlike a lot of belts. But as I said, it will probably defeat its own object by allowing champions and challengers from outside the region, such as Anthony Mundine as a Latin champ and Shane Cameron as an African champ.
