A possible marker against DeGale if he knocks out the guy who our Olympic gold medalist couldn't.

If degal fought like he did in his last fight he might have stopped him

Pointless fight, if Sutherland stops him it will be a case of so what and if he doesn't it makes Degale look good considering how poor Degale was on his debut anyway. No win fight for Sutherland and I fail to see how it can progress his career.

He turned pro the same week as Tyson Fury and one's had 3 fights and the other 6 and it's the 20 year old novice who's had the better opposition as opposed to the 27 year old Olympic medalist. Get your finger out Frank, time for Darren to start stepping things up in a big way and fighting far more regularly.

It will be good to see how Sutherland looks against an awkward opponant sure hes bound to win but it will be a tricky fight for him i think he KO him inside 3 rounds he's so big and strong for SMW and has a decent dig on him and good boxing skills

I must admit having sparred darren I really think hesgot the potentioal sorry for spelling to go all the wayhes really developing an you can only beat wot is in front of u good learning fight keep it up kid

Chuck that big useless mackem into the the mix also and we could end up with a fwank style British light heavyweight merry go round promising the winner a crack at a World title.

sutherland can continue to fight bums for his next 10 fights. i won't be watching, thats for sure and to be honest, he needs to get a move on at his age. lets see him step up, or is he going to continue to fight bums til he is 30?

How did you get on against him?

Thought he looked decent last night. Was thinking throughout the rounds instead of rushing in like a loon. Can't wait to see him step up

Edwwards fight was a decent scrap, Ahmed stayed in it all the way despite being rocked countless times.

Coz last night told us nothing, he was in against a punch bag, and a punch bag that he was a whole weight division bigger than at that. He should be far busier at this stage of his career and fighting better opposition to develop his career considering his age (27) and amateur credentials. Last night was an exercise in Maloney being able to say, "my man stopped him and Degale didn't".

Sutherland himself seems to be level headed enough to know that those comparisons mean nothing at this stage of his career and he clearly has bags of ability so why not push him on and put him in with someone with a bit of ambition who will at least present him with some problems to solve - someone like Michael Monaghan or Richard Horton.

If Sutherland was 20 or 21 his level of progression would be ok but at 27 and with his amateur experience he should be progressing much quicker.

I thought Sutherland looked very strong and showed some very good punches .. but also thought there seemed to be something missing also? .. I know he`s at the very beginning of his pro career, but he just seemed to be lacking a bit of foot speed or maybe just `savvy` .. not really sure what it was .. but couldn`t help thinking something was lacking ...

he did come across as a great fella, not sure if maloney is the best for him at his age .. but I wish him all the best and really hope he gets the opportunities..

think sutherland was just geting some rounds out, threw a few combos and got him out of there, very heavy handed though, be good to se him fight someone who throws back

I totally agree with that, there is something missing with Sutherland and I dont think he is a world class prospect like when i remember watching Cotto, Mayweather, De La Hoya, Tyson and to an extent Hatton coming through.

He didn't seem to want to finish it but that's all really. You'd put that down to getting the rounds in though.

Just like when David Price had his first fight he didn't come out looking to blitz his opponent away, he came out and picked his shots carefully and seemed to be thinking throughout.

he made a statement, even if it was not a very subtle one.

re the speed of career - i wouldn't worry. sutherland already has the mature, correct look about him. maloney did great work with haye, with the EBU title/world ranking/world title. all the right fights to get him there, though apparently the opponents were haye's choice (i think spud said).

sutherland was a world class amateur so i don't think he'll be lacking for opportunities when the time is right.
