Usman Ahmed and a future Commonwealth Light Flyweight title

He fought a brave display against Chris Edwards but he was just over 108lbs and could make light flyweight
easily.

After a lot of dragging their feet - the BBB of C implemented the super flyweight division and even if there isn't
too many light flyweights in the UK to make a belt feasible - there are certainly plenty enough in the commonwealth,
mainly South African fighters who I am sure would love to fight for the commonwealth title. Do you think a commonwealth
light flyweight title inauguration is viable and would it be just reward for Usman Ahmed if he got to fight for the vacant
title! :TU:

Good shout might be a few floating around in Africa. In this country only Usman and Paul Lowe could make light-fly

There is something like 50 rated light flyweights in South Africa, Tanzania, Botswana and Kenya and about 40 minimumweights in Africa
who would qualify for the commonwealth title.

One of the best things the WBC/WBA/IBF etc did was introduce the lighter weight divisions like light flyweight, minimumweight as Jose Suleman
said - it revived boxing in Asia where most boxers because of their size cannot fight for the titles above featherweight - these lighter weight
titles were the grassroots of world title boxing in countries like Japan, The Philippines, South Korea, Indonesia.

The commonwealth light flyweight/minimumweight titles would be a shot in the arm for African boxing in my opinion and any British fighter
who could make 7st 10lbs could of course fight for it.

Did Paul Lowe fight last week?

Lowe weighed in at 7st 10lb but the opponent weighed in at 8st 5lb (3lb over the agreed weight) so it was scrapped because he would have been 9lb heavier than Paul. Poor show that by Kyle Anthony to come in so heavy and Steve Robinson who trains him.

Are you taking the piss? It is bad enough that the super-flyweight title, which was introduced because the Board didn't think there were any flyweights left in the country, has now diluted a tiny resource of fighters even more to the standard that anyone under 8st 10lb is now allowed to box for a British title. Now you are suggesting that a title gets implemented to suit one boxer, who clearly is not of title class, as a "reward". I'm sure Sky viewers will be licking their lips at a Usman Ahmed v TBA main event.

The sad fact is that there are not African promoters putting on Commonwealth title fights. That is why the Commonwealth Council handed Chris Edwards the vacant flyweight belt for beating Wayne Bloy.

You obviously can't read - just let me highlight a sentence in my first paragraph...

I'm certainly suggesting that a commonwealth light flyweight and minimumweight title would be an EXCELLENT idea - I like the idea that boxers and promoters in Africa would be able to hold and fight for the commonwealth title in their respective countries without British promoters hogging the belts like they do in the heavier weight classes, treating it as it is a lesser domestic belt.

I would love to see Usman Ahmed vs a decent South African light flyweight for the inaugural crown - wouldn't you?

Commonwealth title fights are being snapped up by British promoters and the titles are being used to promote domestic match ups which is a shame as African promoters (with probably the exception of the South Africans) are being priced out - however - as there would be little to no interest in the title outside of Africa - it can be used
to develop African boxing - a good idea - it doesn't really matter how many British fighters - if any are able to fight for it because the average Brit is rather large - but it would be a nice reward for Usman Ahmed for his brave performance on the weekend... that is all! :TU:

The commonwealth council are absolutley useless - their job is to make sure the title challengers all over the commonwealth can get their due shot - facts are most commonwealth title fights these days are domestic match ups.

Oh - look what I found!

He was so brave but didnt look that great a boxer and definetly lacks a punch so maybe if he goes down to LFW he may have a bit more of a punch but think he has good heart and chin but lacked ability but Edwards is hard to look good against would like to see him against Bloy to see how he copes with him

Obviously it didn't catch on then. My point, which you obviously didn't catch, was that there are not enough flyweights/super-flyweights to make both of those British titles feasible, hence the amount of fights featuring raw novices boxing for these titles and Edwards being a two-weight British champion when having a minus record.

He certainly was either brave or too stupid for his own good .. not really sure which one I`d honestly like to say :-?

That ring entrance :D .. how he approached Edwards as he entered the ring :KO: ... how he seemed to catch every heavy shot Edwards threw - and tried to act as if he had everything under control - when I didn`t give him a round all night, not even the one Edwards had a point taken off  .. and that voice of his :o

Ye i thought he was a pric when he was walking in but at the end of the fight thought he was a true warrior he should stop all this Naz wannabe crap and focus on being a tough boxer i also think he was stupid to go to war with Edwards he should of used his boxing skills as Edwards can be outboxed but he is good at getting you to fight his style of fight

Without sounding too cruel to him .. the only natural ability he showed me was the ability to absorb punishment :(

Sadly that type of boxer will undoubtly walk on their heels in later years ... :(

Must agree with you here, Maloney telling us Ahmed vs Lowe is a great top of the bill for the Lightfly Weight Commonwealth Title,

The Super Flyweight title is a joke and is going to be like the flyweight title being vacant for years. I don't want to see any weight lower than fly unless Calderon is fighting.

Exactly. It´s not like Edwards is good and he beat him like a drum for a shutout. If Ahmed fights somebody good, he´ll get KTFO.

Furthermore, he only reached 108 lbs after literally eating numerous bowls of curry with naans and tons of rice (including the night before the fight). Other fighters try to lose weight for a fight whereas Usman tries to gain weight :TU:
