ITV are ready set not to renew there contract with mick hennessy for the airing of fights, the current deal they have runs out at the end of the year and would cost ITV 1 million to cancel now so they are going to let it run out.
ITV4 are contracted for 10 more live broadcasts but they could still renew there contract as they have a different deal than ITV1
carl froch is not contracted to any of the TV stations so he could appear on sky/setanta/bbc etc not even though MH has a contract with ITV as the contract is just to put on shows not specific fighters

ITV4 shows attract over a million viewers which is a large number for a small digital station

i think if ITV could nail down froch and fury they would extend the deal but i dont know whats going on and i doubt mr HR press would help

What is the rumour?

A Promoter has approached the TV stations for a proposed deal.

I'm not sure that would even work, because tv companies have found out in the past that having decent British fighters on their channel doesn't mean much if you can't get top name opponants in the other corner.

Froch has outgrown ITV now in my opinion, because they won't pay top money to get the likes of Bute & Kessler over and they also don't want to show fights in the early hours of the morning.

Back stage shenanigans still creeps me out Mark. They could do with dropping that.

It has a good small hall atmosphere, big fights; not so sure.

Think you're right about the presenter. I'm sure he's a lovely guy. Seems nice and very eager. But he reminds me of Vic Reeves' impression of Lloyd Grossman.

I think boxing needs more characters...and to be shown to wider audience, Sky, PPV etc are partly to blme for this

definitely, Showtime just buying fights, not fighters and all that. But that would upset too many stars - like we have loads of stars anyway - and promoters.

I think promoters have allowed boxing to be mediocre too long. I mean, people know who Khan is - big deal - but has Khan done anything exceptional or spectacular, to make him a superstar? No.

Anyway, rant ove.r We shold be grateful for any and all fights, we should support even the rubbish cards and mismatches and woe betide anyone who complains - unless they have bought a ticket for the card in question.

Quite simply bad news for boxing!!!

We are almost back in the dark old days of one channel and a couple of promoters having a monopoly on the sport and that is not healthy.

I hope Hennessy can work out a deal with somebody - "Meaty Mick" is a good promoter and has a good stable of boxers - lets hope something can be done!!!

Not good news this. I like watching ITV4 shows, they bring an old fashioned but knowledgeable feel to their shows.

If you compare some fights we've seen on ITV compared to FNF's usual Commonwealth champ v Ghanaian challenger, the standard is qute a way better on ITV/Hennessey's side.

What will happen to Tyson Fury now then? 10 shows remaining on the deal, he's 6-0 and he will fight on most, if not all of those bills and he will still only be 16-0 if all goes well.

Bad news those shows are normally really good, good behind the scene action and good post fight analizing also they put on good fights and Hennessy has good fighters and will be worth the price for a big contract

I hope something can get sorted, The Hennessy shows have been fantastic since day 1 on ITV.

Hopefully they can have him fight for a brit title or something in his last fight on there and that will make the viewers want to see his progress carry on (like a TV soap finnishing on a cliff hanger!)

Real shame if true, lets hope this is just public negotiation though

Personally I'd prefer less and better quality. Would you much rather watch 80 Championship matches or 40 Premiership ones?
