It has become apparent to me that all 'Audley' threads seem to gather pace at a tremendous rate on boxrec! Its a shame his career didn't

allways said harrisons performances in sydney were great,holyfield was most impressed also.
he was a GREAT am & an ok pro.
the guy's made a nice few quid out of the pro's for winning nish apart from a nice contract which his sydney display deserved.
shame he doesnt have it for the pro's as he's a great talker & personality.

I went to the same gym as him when he boxed for Islington,Then he moved onto the Repton.Seem nice then but i was 12 yrs old,so i didnt really talk to him.

to be fair to him it wasnt he couldnt take a shot because that shot that Sprott threw to KO him would of done the same to most as he just didnt see it coming. I think he just didnt like getting involved because as i think he once said "the difference between the pro and amatuer game is when you hit some in the amatuers they stand off yet in the pros they come right back at you." well it was roughly that and i think this he never adjusted too as he was a thinking fighter who like to take his time and his jab wasnt good enough to buy him it.

Bottom line is, it hurt a lot more without headgear on.

It shows there are no substitutes in the pros from gruelling roadwork, hard sparring and continual learning. I don't think 'Big Aud' ever really went for it in the gym, he seemed to have the technique and size, maybe he didn't have the fighting heart for it either. Oh well hope he invested his BBC money wisely

I think most people dont like anyone who talks big but cant back it up. He made a fool of himself and those who supported him. He had the skills, but didnt have the guts you need to be a top fighter. If you could have somehow mixed Harrison and Skelton together you would have had a world champion.

Shocking stoppage. Audley was out of the Games but for the referee. Otherwise, Audley boxed well but he had mastered the computer scoring system by 2000, which is what really won him the gold. Why else has he failed to adapt so badly to the pros?

I DIDNT AT THE TIME,
and it was a xmas boys get together, after party at mine was usual carnage though!

This was the last straw as many on here could tell you I was behind Aud for along time, longer than I should have been, and this non perfomance was the last straw. It was by far the worst live perfomance of boxing I have ever see, a complete no show borefest. It embarrassed me to all those id convinced to go for a good night out.

Re the nob comment Aud in his late teens/ early 20's was somewhat of a thug from what Ive heard so all these nice guy strories dont match up to what ive been told by folk who grew yup with him.

I remember my Dad see him shadowboxing in the street looking like he was going for a run. He then proceeded to jump into a cab.......

I always remeber the guy who 'mooned' the BBC cameras during the Harrison-Julius Francis insomniac cure.

Ive got to giv him his due,olympic champion he done well ...i did cheer for him very loadly infact!!
since he turned over all his fake promises ive lost hope!!!

I once won a cycling time-trial and proceded to tell all my mates that i would be tour de france winner by time i was 25, even put £50 bet on with one mate and that was when £50 was a fortune (1987); so i trained hard and raced on a regular basis but when time came to step up I realised that I wasn't good enough and decided being a pongo was easier. Sadly Audley still has not seemed to realise that he ain't got it! I cheered my tits off and sang the national anthem like a pissed looney when he won gold but his 'british champion in 5 fights' speech sent alarm bells ringing. Arrogance is part of the fight game but when you fail so miserably to back up with performances the people will turn against you. It is true they don't give gold medals away but winning one in the only amateur sport in the olympics has never gauranteed professional success.

Wish he would just retire then we could have "audley-never fulfilled potential" thread then foget about him.
