Calzaghe sues Warren!


Joe Calzaghe’s fight with promoter allegedly has entered the next round. The undefeated former world champion boxer won a judgment against Warren’s Sports Network earlier this year for almost £2 million, however Calzaghe has yet to see a penny of the money awarded to him by the High Court. Yesterday Calzaghe commenced legal proceedings against Warren personally, claiming that Warren had conspired to deprive him of his money, had conspired to use unlawful means to damage him and had knowingly assisted in a breach of trust or fiduciary duty by Sports Network. Calzaghe also lodged a complaint to the British Boxing Board of Control alleging misconduct by Warren in relation to the non-payment and the lengths to which Calzaghe says Warren has gone to attempt to ensure that he will never be paid. Calzaghe seeks compensation from Warren for the amount of money due to him and is asking the Board to withdraw or suspend Warren’s promoter’s license until such time as that compensation has been paid. “I’m sickened by the way I’ve been treated,” said Calzaghe. “If Warren thinks I’ll walk away from this, after putting myself and my career record at risk in the ring, he’s mistaken. I’ll pursue him all the way until justice is done.”

Like Calzaghe or loathe him - he earnt the money by putting his life on the line like every other boxer, to try to rob him of his earnings is the lowest of the low in my opinion.

How will the BBB of C deal with this? how much column inches will BN give to it?

The board, if they really are impartial - should come down heavy on Fwank, its blatant what he`s done .. maybe legal, but very blatant and morally wrong all the same.
And doesn`t this make important Boxing News

I've never like Calzaghe as a boxer but this is jus a piss-take and needs sorting. W arren is the lowest of the low.

The man should pay up if not warren should have his promoters and managers licence withdrawn he will sharpe pay up then

Not sure how Warren offloaded the assets of Sports Network.. the whole thing stinks.

Like Teddy I was never a huge fan of Calzaghe the boxer, but on the few occasions i met him he was a very humble and down to earth guy. He deserves better than this....

Even Stevie Wonder can see Fwank is bringing the game into disrepute.

Suspend his license until such time as Joe Calzaghe is paid, it is the only course of action.

I agree FW's license should be suspended untill JC is paid, and then prob a bit more on top as punishment.
If the board turn a blind eye it will set a dangerous precedent.

I hope Warren loses, then I hope Amir Khan loses, then I hope the Olympians lose.

No way will Warren have his license suspended or anything close to it. The board wouldn't dare. Frank will come out of this unscathed and at worse probably end up paying the money that he rightfuly owes Calzaghe. But Frank is shrewd and smart enough not to let the collapse of Sports Network interfere with his ongoing promotions.

Although its been a real bitch move on his part, he probably hasn't broken any laws.

the fact that he hasnt broken the law as such is the key isnt it.I feel for joe but i really cant see him getting a penny.

Its the same with a lot of these buisnessmen in all walks of life theyre scum and get away with screwing us honest folk

From a legal perspective JC is in a sticky situation, but the board still have the power to act

Neither did many of thepse politicians with theor expenses, but they were still in the wrong.

Fwank must be made to pay and suspended then fined by the BBBof NO Control.

Calzaghe will most likely be paid some of the money owed, not all

I can’t believe any boxer with any knowledge of this case/cases and a brain cell would do business with this man. It beggars belief. Frankie Gavin has the same lawyer as Calzaghe

Indeed.

Calzaghe had a very engineered career from Warren. Taking few small risks.

Reckon Warren though they may have had a "understanding" imo.

The board should do what the legal powers in this case cannot .. suspend his licence, and any licence thats obviously working for him, untill the money Calzaghe is owed has been paid.

The board have to be seen to be doing what is morally correct ... otherwise what are they there for? .. boxers, promoters and the like may as well by-pass the board and operate outside of their role.

and before him Duff, and before him Solomons and so it goes, on and on...
when will the fighter(s), who have been truly screwed over ever get anything back or proper respect and treatment? Only when a Board and the press (BN and the like) are 'honest' enough and firm enough to overide all this bullshite and represensent the sport with integrity! and oh yeah get rid of the Sanctioning Bodies in the sweep!

the BOARD dictates who fights who, with a minimal yearly fight quota depending on the fighters TRUE place;
the press supporting, and the managers & promoters tow the line, or their out... complimenting all fighters in thier right place.

He appeals to their "I want it all now" urges with a massive signing on bonus I should imagine.

If Calzaghe is owed money for fights then he should be paid, the promoter does seem to be attempting to worm out of it with a few tricks, allegedly.

I find it all very bewildering, surely if a high court awards damages, the sum awarded must be paid by law and by a set date. If that cannot be enforced what is the point of anyone taking legal action against another. The Boxing Board has to take action or they are just as guilty as the party we are discussing. I suppose "pay up when I am forced to" is a good ploy as £2 million earns quite a lot of interest in his high interest bank account. I have never before heard of anyone getting away with not paying after a court has made its decision so I think Joe must be in a strong legal position. This man has too much power and it needs to be curbed.
