Right, I have night classes at university and my tutor there, who is Barnes' uncle said that he gave up his belt cos he got slashed on the arm in a nightclub. He also told me that Barnes will have a fight then fight for a world title.

I don't know what to think.

And apparently he makes the weight piss easy and he thought he lost heavily to someone called Jimmy or Vinny early in his career.

Anyone know different?

I think World titles may have been a big of an ask no may would have barnes won a WBC WBO or IBF belt. WBA would have depended on who they could have got a shot against as it has been vacant over the last few years. So a far as world goes realisticly that leave IBO or WBU. He had a good win over a once highly thought of James Haare. I think Euro belt would have a good shot with Trabant and Klose never realy impressing me. Urkal would have been intresting. As would have Ossie Duran who was commenwelth champ around that time

heard barnse isnt even in the gym and very rareley turns up and struggles with the weight.. and he was ment to of crapped his pants from mcloskey this is why he pulled out... just what ive heard from a member of the shannons gymnasium.

By "world-title", I am now thinking whether he means the WBU, IBO or some other shitty belt?

I would imagine WBU is the only world belt he will be targetting. The guy isn't active so needs to force his way into the British scene first before he dreams of world titles.

It's probably behind the top four, but sometimes, I actually rate it above the WBA and WBO.

A couple of years ago he probably could of got a shot at the IBO when Jaweed Kaliqu was champ

I dont think he lost heavily to Vincent, but lose he did.

He said he was in the Paras but a little research on http://www.militaryforums.co.uk/forums shows what his fellow soldiers thought of him. Might explain why he is constantly absent from the gym etc. Quite shocking really, wasn't expecting that!

Dave Barnes (not his real name) was indeed in 7 Para RHA. He was in my battery. The bloke was a gipping craphat of the highest order, and if he hadn't gone AWOL he would have been given an admin discharge. Complete and utter tube. Good job he had his boxing to fall back on and I must admit, he is good.
Still surprises me when I see him dancing round the ring, as to why he was always on the sick whilst in the army and came off pre-parachute selection within minutes of starting it!
Can't remember if he did go to MCTC (military jail in Colchester) so I asked blokes in work this morning and they couldn't remember either. What I do remember is that he was a whining little scrote who went on the run when it got too much for him. Ahhh bless!! His boxing talents were recognised by one of our army boxers but scrote didn't take him up on it. Not long after he went walkabout.
Yes, you are correct that he was wingless (no para wings) as he had difficulty walking to work in the morning never mind tabbing about on P Coy!
Unfortunately due to our brigade policy he did wear a maroon beret so he probably has large, blown up photographs of himself on his wall at home - with his right arm tactfully out of shot of course!!

Shame that, as I've always thought he's a talented guy but if he's not turning up to the gym then just pure talent alone is not going to get him the wins.

barnse never passed p company and the only para never to do this and reach his battalion without his wings he never did a jump.. ( out of a plane ) he got through soleley on fitness. he did a short spell on the army boxing team impressing neil edwards he wobbled chris bessey proper.. a quality amateure. he then done a runner he was a little turnip in his short spell seen more balls on a budgie.

There were certain cap badges that could go to various battalions without being "badged" - as it happens - I believe "Smudger" never served with one of the Parachute Regiment Battalions - he was actually with one of the Airborne support Regiments within as it was called then 5 Airborne Brigade.

With regards to P Company - sorry to be pedantic mate - but P Company is the mandatory course for all Airborne personnel who want to go onto doing their jumps course (albeit there is a minority who do bypass P Company like the Pathfinders and the Marines and Commandos).

With regards to "Smudger" - you are correct concerning him being a quality amateur - he was the Combined Services (Army. RAF & Navy) Champion and had a very promising career ahead of him - but quite simply if the truth be known he did not want to know the Army discipline - he sent the Army Boxing coach at the time, a guy called Neil McCallum nuts - then he did a runner back to Manchester and even appeared on a couple of Sky shows whilst still being AWOL.

sorry ment neil mcCallum not edwards i was thinking of another bloke. but your right regards to p coy. he did drive him nuts he was smith in the army not barnse.
