Always in favour of fighter's avenging defeats. If Macklin's fighting Barker next, then this is perfect I reckon. If Macklin doesn't fight Barker next, but does Thirwell or Bendell then that's poor, very poor in fact. If it's the former then I have little problem with this.

if he does not fight Barker next then he is a poor champion.
Barker IMO is the best young middleweight in the World.
He seems to be getting better and better

Matt should tear him up in 4-5 rounds i feel.

Lots of good young middleweights: Geale, Golovkin, Pirog, Zbik, Barker, Macklin.

This will be a good division - when the current champs piss off!

If Barker is now Macklin's mandatory, surely Macklin has to face Barker next or be stripped of the title? At worst this would mean Barker fighting for the vacant title in the autumn.

I think Macklin is a good British fighter i think Barker will beat him his accuricy will tear Macklin apart but Macklin will cause him problems but Barkers skill will win it imo but its good to see Macklin avenging a defeat

could add mcewan to that with regards to future contenders in the division, young im not so sure about (27 i think)

What is wrong with the current champions? If the youngsters are so good then they should be able to beat the current champions.

macklin will win this one he's a miles better fighter than when he lost to facey.. he looked good last time out probably the best he's looked now with joe gallagher

has facey had much notice....if so he will cause him alot of problems again.....Barker would beat him pretty easy

Good opportunity for Macklin to take on one of the men who has beaten him.

First time around Macklin lacked the footwork to close the distance on Facey and he was beaten by a more experienced, elusive opponent.

Macklin will demonstrate his improvement over the years by closing Facey down and punishing his body in the early going, before switching his shots up stairs; I see him chopping the Ingle fighter down by around round 7 - 9.

Still, Facey is a tough cookie and could make Matt look a little pedestrian early. With Facey originating from Wolves this could almost be called a derby fight.

I think people might be reading too much into Macklins recent victories over nobodies. He might get another lesson against Facey.

hmm. a lot of people unfairly (IMO) point to Matt's early loss to Facey as some sort of indicator he isn't as good as billed.

to me, and i said this at the time, putting him in with Facey so early was a poor piece of matchmaking on Matt's behalf, Facey would always at best make him look horrible, there was no need to bring him on that quickly and little to gain even from winning. it's not like the halls of boxrec at the time would have been buzzing with 'Macklin beat Facey, the World Title is surely his next stop now' talk.

anyways, hmm, in a way i suppose it could be a good little test/ see how much he's learned/ not bad with only 3 weeks before the fight sort of match

its just that I'm going to be there, it'll probably be a bit of a stinker, and i rather fancied Thirlwall for Macklin (a dress rehearsal for beating up on Barker hahaha)

I dont see BArker beating Matt easily at all, thought he looked immense against Elcock, who'd gone 5 against Abraham!!

exactly, and it was i think his 11th fight, facey was a very tough gig for him at the time.

Macklin's win over Elcock was superb (I actually picked Elcock to win), but it's well known I am a massive Barker fan. People thought he would be out-fought against McDermott, but showed that he can fight against a bigger man. If Macklin doesn't get Barker out of there in five (and Barker needs to be very carefully he isn't KO'ed with an uppercut - he's a little open to it), then I can see Barker taking over and stopping Macklin late on. It will be a tough first half of the fight for Barker but I believe he has it in him to keep it level after six and then take over with better and more accurate punches. Barker's engine is second to none, and he keeps the quality punches coming to the final bell. Plus, Barker has proven he can bang and with that straight right, I think he could drop Macklin a few times before stopping him.
