Rocco vs King St Andrews Sporting club

I went to the last club show of the season last night at the Raddison, excited at the prospect of watching two very talented young fighters, Paul Charlie King and Johnny Rocco Hussey in the main event, and what a fight it turned out to be. With Rocco being the aggresor through out the fight and taking the fight to Local lad King, both fighters sustained nasty cuts, King in the Second and Rocco in the fifth. Personally i think Rocco won the fight having scored it 59-56. But in Scotland???? With a Scottish referee, that wasnt to be the case with the ref scoring it 58-57. Which in my eyes was a terrible decision as the sharper, classier shots were coming from Rocco who was winning the rounds from the first bell.
Did anyone else see this fight? if so do you think king deserved the victory?
Let me know your opinions please

disgrace

, i watched the show the 1st referee was spot on in the first 2 fights eddie doyle getting the desicion by 1 point against peter jones, 2nd fight chris black was beaten on points by alex spitko which was again spot on and fair giving the away fighter the win, then suddendly before the last fight between rocco and king the referee was changed.
rocco won the 1st 4 rounds quite easily then become a little eager and lost the 5th(in my opinion) and came back to win the 6th round(at worst drew the round), giving him at least 4 rounds. As soon as the desicion was announced king left the ring and all the scottish crowd booed the desicion, when rocco name was announced every 1 cheered. For the rest of the evening all the spectators said how rocco was robbed even 1 guy saying the ref trains in the same gym as king!!! rocco shud hold his head up proud well done for winning!

I saw the fight- and St Andrews Sporting Club prides itself on being a gentlemans club. There was nothing gentelmanly about what happened last night to Janathan 'Rocco' Hussey. Tony Gimour if you read this or get told about this then something needs to be done about last night it was a complete disgrace. To change the referee for the last fight for what reason? I also note that the referee's name is not available on the results page - do we know who this was?
Boxers train with dedication second to none, all they ask is to be treated fairly and with respect. To see at close hand last nights underhand events was shocking and simply out of order. The fight was not even close, a complete shut out from Rocco with Charlie King coming out in the last round knowing he needed the KO. Interesting at the bell King turned his back and went to the corner not even looking to have his hand raised. When he did, he looked as shocked and embarassed as anybody in the venue - from what I saw all of whom had Rocco as a clear victor. I would advise any 'opponent' boxer to avoid these events. Rocco will come back from this as he is a class above that level - and when he does (and unless something is done about what happened) I firmly hope he tells anyone associated with last night to shove it.

i also attended last nights dinner and it couldve been a perfect night good food, interesting after dinner speakers, good competitive fights and correct scoring for the first two fights, seemed to be turning in to a cracking night, then the main event of charlie king and jonny "rocco" hussey was a great fight and my opinion is that rocco boxed fantastic against the favoured local fighter took the fight to him landed better cleaner shots and landed them a lot more frequent than king. A fantastic end to the evening, until the referee held up the hand of king who looked as suprised as everybody else, king didnt look like a winner and his fans didnt act like there lad had just won everyone in there knew that the real winner was rocco, i felt gutted for him, boxers train very hard and have to make a lot of sacrifices whilst training for a fight he traveled up from bolton and did exactly wot he needed to do and all his hard work should have paid off by having his hand raised at the end, but all that was taken away by the joke of a referee, rocco was robbed and everyone in the room knew it, somthing shold be done about this.
ps a big well done to rocco and a great fight you were the real winner, and have the class to come back from this chin up!

Scottish boxing is notorious for robbing visitors.

I wasn't there and can't comment but I've spoken to a mate who was. It's not at all unusual for two referees at an event like this, there are only 3 pro refs in Scotland, one is A Star, Vic Loughlin, and normally works title fights. The other 2 are Kenny Pringle and Paul Graham. Pringle did the first two and Graham did the King Rocco fight.
I'm told that Gilmour, or any other promoter for that matter doesn't pick the refs, the board does, and that Pringle is B class whereas Graham is A class. If that's true then it would make sense for him to do the main event.

You are possibly right, mate, but you could say the same thing when Brits fight in Europe, Scots or English fight in Ireland, Irish or Scots fight in England etc.
It's called home advantage

There was nothing "home advantage" in this. It was bent, plain and simple. Wasnt even a close fight. Someone should be made accountable

I heard Gilmours boy lost the second fight. Who do you reckon was bent, the promoter or the ref?

No, it's nothing like that in Scotland. There was a referee up there called Hutcheon, I think, who was particularly bad for giving home town decisions. Most cards lean towards the home fighters, but ii is almost unknown for a hometown fighter on a small show or undercard in Scotland to get the decision.

I remember him, Al Hutcheon. Haven't seen him for years. I remember someone told me he chucked it after Victor Loughlin was given A Star staus when he thought it should be him, alledgedly

Referee's record's, as well as those of boxers, can be viewed in the usual fashion by clicking on the name tab etc.
A very quick look seems to suggest that in around 150 bouts involving Scottish boxers the away fighter has had his arm raised after winning on points on less than ten occasions, some of these wins being by wide margins.

Yep the first two fights were juged fairly, no question, no complaints and two very good scraps.
They then changed the referee for the main fight which I found very strange!!!! Especially as the rumour after the event was that the referee is a personal friend and gym-mate of King. King fought well and showed lots of guts but he lost plain and simple, It couldnt possibly have been seen any other way. The referees details for the main event are still unknown. Also looks like King is well at truely at home at the Radisson Hotel on these boxing events when checking his record. Smelly.

I train in a gym in Bolton and the talk yesterday from all the lads who travelled up to watch was that Rocco was completely robbed.
The lads who travelled up gave King one round AT BEST and all said it was the worst decision they have ever seen.
Not one local or King fan even tried to justify the decision, it was pure and simple a robbery.
I hate this about boxing, makes a mockery of the sport. There should be a way to appeal such decisions.

Was Willie Bilan boxing last night?
I thought I saw his name listed yesterday but no results anywhere...
May have my wires crossed, though.

Paul Graham was the referee for the King v Rocco Fight. Not the same referee who judged the previous two bouts. Checking Grahams record as a referee seems hes an obvious home fighter favourite. Dosnt deserve to operate at ANY level this individual. Just a damn shame the bout wasn't filmed.

I'll ask about but I didnt see a camera anyhow. And if there was I seriously doubt any footage would be made available for Jonno or his team, itd probably be lost already.

The MC used to set up a camcorder, burn it on DVD and give a copy to any of the boxers who wanted it, but his camcorder packed in so doesn't do it anymore.
