Hopefully he will be kept on TV by one of the other channels. His show has been excellent for the sport and Buncey has done regular work for the Beeb before (both TV and radio). Hopefully they will retain the same format or even make the radio show into a TV version with Mike Costello etc there as well.

Are you by any chance the excellent cutsman and cabby? Either way, welcome to the forum.

For me- having a regular magazine show has been the best thing about Setanta.

I hope Buncey keeps the boxing hour going as a podcast. Without the restraints of TV- he'd be able to go more in depth with his guests.

A podcast costs nothing to produce and I'm sure there would be plenty of people eager to sponsor it.

Any company that wants to reach a few thousand boxing fans directly. Radio is often touted as the most effective form of advertising and podcasts are more attractive as you know who the listeners are. They have made a decision to listen rather than being casual listeners.

he can be a bit of a bullsh1tter at times, but it's very tongue in cheek and his schtick is highly entertaining. boxing hour is great - hope someone else picks it up - imagine how good it would be with a budget

Buncey and AK will be signing on once a fortnight, then diving straight into the nearest social club for a power hour whilst telling the 80yr plus clientele pub anecdotes of how they were the greatest double act since Morcombe & Wise!

You only have to look at the advertising in Boxing News or Boxing Monthly to see how unattractive that audience is for 'mainstream' advertisers. Will only appeal to those in that 'core' market, such as promoters, and as BN has proved, if you've got Frank advertising heavily to support your product, you can forget any idea of editorial independence.
There's also the broader context of the current economic circumstances which mean marketing budgets have been slashed, and sponsorship is normally among the first things to go.

Boxing at the minute really needs Setanta to survive (be it through ESPN purchasing it etc), if only just to keep the Bunce hour on air! With ITV's cut backs and rumours they're set to drop Hennessy and if Setanta do go apart from a few european or delayed fights on Eurosport and ESPN FNF on at stupid o clock on a monday morning on channel 5 Sky will have the monopoly on televising boxing in this country. When the competition is eliminated the only people it will harm will be the fans.

Also great to see Mick Williamson on here, i'm no "insider" of the sport just a fan but from what I can gather Mick is one of THE most respected men in british boxing. Sure he'll have some great stories to tell.
