Injury postpones Tyson Fury’s next bout

Fans of heavyweight sensation Tyson Fury will have to wait a little longer for his seventh professional outing. The 6 foot 9 inch Fury has suffered a back injury in training meaning that his next bout has now been postponed until July 18 in Norwich.

Fury had been set for action on this Saturday’s “Rule Britannia” card at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan. The Hennessy Sports event is live on ITV4 from 8pm and is headlined by John Murray’s British Lightweight title defence against Scott Lawton.

However with a persistent back injury hampering his preparations Fury has been forced to withdraw from the card. “I’m very disappointed but the doctor has said that the only thing for the injury is to rest for a week so then I should be able to get back to training for the July 18th fight,” said Fury.

“I’ve been very busy since I turned pro and I want to keep to a busy schedule so I don’t want to risk the back injury getting any worse. I’m getting closer to a British title shot with every fight now so hopefully on July 18th I’ll take another step up in class. I know Mick Hennessy is working on something for that show and I’ll be ready for whoever shows up in the opposite corner.”

Saturday night’s chief support features a Battle of Champions with Southern Area champ Tom Glover clashing with Central Area title holder Nadeem Siddique in a scheduled 10 rounder. Tyson Fury’s cousin Phill Fury remains on the card as he goes in search of his second pro win with hot featherweight prospect Steve Barnes also featuring.

Exciting puncher Andrew Singh Kooner will also see action alongside the pro debuts of Bobby “Boogaloo” Ward, the last Englishman to defeat Amir Khan and Sheffield heavyweight, Richard Towers.

Big tall lad like Tyson will always have back problems, shame he's off the show, but has to think long term sometimes.

when you box, you go into light training for the week before the fight, and have a week off/light training the following week

when your fighting every 4 weeks, this brings your hard training down to two weeks a month

Yeah 3 hard sessions a week 2 easy, at Furys level he should be fighting every 4 weeks ala the real Tyson. He is young enough and he has had no hard fights. I cannot believe people think he is fighting too often, lets put it to the vote and if other people think he is fighting too often I will take my words back.

Agree, it's good that Fury is fighting so often. I don't suppose you would like him to be managed like David Price - he's had one fight in four months or so.

He's got a fight scheduled for next month, just in case anyone didn't know (I've only just seen). I hope Hayemaker will be OK after what happens with Setanta.

i do think fighting regular is good for him, but he doesnt need to fight each and every 4 weeks

Yeah because when your fighting regular your never in the f*cking gym.

I love the fact that he's fighting every 4 weeks. When he goes for the English or British title I think he should have a few months of beforehand to go through the same kind of training camp that World class boxers go through, but for now it's great to see him gaining experience by the bucket load.

I heard they were having problems matching Fury

why do they keep calling him a sensation? To my knowledge he's beaten a few bums, all smaller (obviously), and been easily handled himself by David Price, who's had ONE pro fight, and he hasn't boxed anyone really even NEAR the British top ten because by the sounds of it if anyone wants more than a fortnight's notice it's tough sh*t.
I enjoy following Tyson but currently my only Boxing available to me is ITV4 so realistically if they showed Graham Earl vs. Amir Khan "The Rematch"....there's a bloody good chance I'd be watching.....but I'm getting sick of all this Hennessy bullsh*t.
Not that he'll be bothered at all by that, it seems to me that the goal here is just publicity, even if that just means people like Forum visitors like me just whinge at the constant sh*tty, half-arsed "press" releases......or "Hennessy" releases I should say, as I don't see the Times, the Sun, The Express, the BBC covering any of this. Scott Belshaw, to me, looked like a man not actually aware of how to throw a punch correctly.

Teddy's correct. The fights are hardly registering physically with Tyson. He hasn't been hit either, they're like heavy bag sessions. Maybe pyschologically though, knowing that you are going to be fighting, the nerves etc...even knowing that you're pencilled in to fight again in 3 weeks even before you've climbed in the ring.....maybe a 3 month's of gym work might be good.
