Rematches that should have happened

ok we had the fights that never happened thread. how about the rematch that should have been, thread?

fights that were so good, or that were controversial enough, that they warranted another go. that did not happen.

I'll kick off with Johnny Nelson v Carl Thompson. Nelson appeared to be outclassing Thompson, but showed little signs of weakening for my money, before stopping Thompson on his feet. BUT, Thompson was a slow starter and finished his career with a number of come-from-behind KO wins.

Calzaghe v Reid. Very close, very competitive, not a great fight but they arguably had something to settle. Naturally, it never happened.

If we can stick to British fighters, that would be cool.

david barnes v jimmy vincent, this should have definatley been a rematch and i felt sorry for vincent who took the defeat very graciously.I think barnes never had the stomach for a remtch after the 1st fight which vincent bulllied him in and didnt give him a minutes breathing space to box and move.

Tyson-Douglas.

Arguebally Tyson would have taken it easily, as he probably would have bothered training. Never the less, should have happened.

Hopkins-RJJ 2

Bugner-Cooper. Henry had the chance but was 37, swallowed his pride and went through a longer bitter and twisted stage than most ex-fighters, but they all go through it.

Nah, he made up with Gibbs publicly years ago (around 1984) and has moved on from Bugner, who made a fool of himself with his repeated comebacks.
Bugner, coincidentally, lost to Jack Bodell six months after Cooper.

Khan-Limond, in light of the "long count", of which Khan was the beneficiary, and the stoppage due to Limond's "broken jaw" (which never was!).

What long count? He was up at 2, took a knee, was up at 8 and told to box on straight away. And Limond was pulled out of his corner, he took a battering in the 7th. But if you prefer to spread rumours of a conspiracy, this is the place to do it.

Undoubtedly Ali-Foreman. Which was a very dubious stoppage as George was up at 8. AND the round timer was at zero.

But 'The Greatest' didn't fancy it. Rope-a-dope wouldn't have worked twice.

It's going to be one of those things that will no doubt be considered fact over time on the forums. It wasn't long. I was there.

he hits the floor at 2.03 and is up off his knee at 1.54. Seeing as most counts are normally long anyway, that one was 9 seconds, and most times the ref would be much slower in allowing a boxer to carry on.
