Both BBC News and The Guardian are carrying reports that Setanta is in talks with a new investor who may yet prevent the company going into administration.
The board meet tomorrow (Friday).
The Guardian reports the potential investor as being "very credible"
It's not over yet.

Thing is, even if they are "rescued" what will really change? The issue seems to be their lack of subscribers, and this who shinanagan will hardly be likley to encourage MORE people to use thier service.

From what I heard this morning on the news Setanta are seeking 50m to keep them afloat yet the business is losing 100m a year! why would anyone with any brains want to invest into that

Surely it all depends on whether they think the business can be restructured to make it viable - stripping away components/channels, different subscriber packages etc. Can't see a way to transform it myself, but someone else might sense opportunity amidst the debris.

They've got a subscriber revenue stream of £180million a year plus advertising from the UK.
1.2 million x (£12.99x12) (okay a view on more favourable deals).
To my mind their contracts with the various sporting bodies shouldn't be above 60% of that - about £108million.
Emmerson's good at these things.
However a revenue stream of £180 million plus advertising with revised contracts, a focussed offering, reduced operating costs and only say a 20% subscriber loss is £144million for the new offering would be a healthy base to grow the business with a different, more streamlined model and more considered investment in sports.
I could see how that would be attractive to some on the cheap.

Maybe, but you have to sit through hours of paper plane making, gay banter and cock jokes to get to the final product.

True dat.
Also, Dave, to muddy the waters Setanta also offer US subscribers their channels (with a little nip and tuck on certain programmes). $15 I think.

Wales, I'd be careful what you say or you'll have Asterix the internet policeman on your case
