BARRY McGUIGAN ON OLIVER McCALL.....

Was it just me & Thaxton, or did we all think the punches had finally caught up with McGuigan?
Tyson Fury vs OLIVER McCALL?
McCall won't 'give Tyson the rounds', he'll give him his head on a platter.
No John McDermott, no Sprott, no Williams... Just 6 tomato cans & straight in with the Atomic Bull!
Even by Bazzas standards, that was a pretty whacky take on things.

I thought Thaxton-McGuigan was about to start off but I see were McGuigan is coming from this would be a very dangerous fight for Fury I dont think hes ready yet he hasnt been in with anyone half the level of McCall he should gradually improve his oppontants he doesnt want to fight to big a fight to early imo

McCall is the most experienced active heavy in the world, a known puncher & hard b.stard! You don't wallop 6 hopeless punchbags and step in with McCall. Insane.

Totally agree I feel Fury still has a lot to learn and needs rounds in the bank before he can think of a fight with a seasoned pro like McCall I think they should give Butlin 4 week notice before a fight because hes one tough bastar# and would take Fury in to the later rounds imo

McGuigan obviously read Claude Abrams editorial the other week and nicked the idea from there. Did he credit Boxing News at all?

To be fair to McGuigan, it was Fury who said the other week that he'd like to fight McCall. Don't have the exact quote to hand but he said something along the lines of feeling ready to fight someone at that level and McCall being one of the few people that could give him rounds.

I too agree a McCall match-up for Fury would be very very silly
But, I thought McGuigan and Thaxton are doing an excellent job with ITv .. I`d have never thought Thaxton would have been so good in front of the camera a few years ago - but he really belongs there imo ... and he really seems to be bringing the best out of McGuigan also ... sad really that ITV are pulling out of the game :(

Most people have taken McGuigan with a pinch of salt for a long time now, he often has another agenda based on trying to pass hype off as expert opinion, in fairness he has bills to pay

i agree with you totally about thaxton in front of the camera he comes across as highly intelligent and artriculate as does carl froch when hes in the same position.
proves to the general public that pro boxers are not just punchdrunk fools.
Dont like mcguigan at all im afraid as a pundit,i grew up watching him fight and he deserves to be in the hall of fame but he just seems so fake.
Im also not a duke mckenzie fan,his comments really spoilt the sadiqque fight last night,he doesnt seem to realise that you have to actually hit your opponent to win rounds in a fight

Yes I too agree - Froch was superb when he too did a stint in with McGuigan.
McKenzie doesn`t come across too good commentating, he just gives me the impression he`s just winging it ... and Rawlings just makes me want to turn the volume off .. he is terrible

he may know his boxing .. but I think he is more suited to writing about it rather than talking about it ..

Agreed, Rawlings is just awful. he really doesn't have the voice to be the lead commentator. Duke, on the other hand, has a good voice for commentary but is as daft as a plank of wood. You have to lower your IQ when listening to him commentating.

I was surprised by Barrys call last night, McCall maybe 40 years old, but he'd be way to big a step at the moment.
Fury has only knocked 1 man down with a head shot in 6 fights, and that was Matthew Ellis. So its fair to say he wouldn't make a dent in McCall, even the 2009 version of the ex champ.

Didn't that feather which McGuigan is looking after/hyping get beat by a fellow novice the other night?

I'm not going to question that a three time world champion doesn't know his stuff, but Duke says some rediculous things even when he has time to think about it.

McGuigan is nothing more than a yes man. I remember when he said Aduley Harrsion would be the next biggest thing. What a tosser!

I always thought McGuigan was very cool on Harrison. When him and Richie Woodhall, and maybe Buncey used to do the Harrison fights on BBC he was definitely the least impressed of the 3. In fact he called harrison exactly right from very early on - Just not comfortable within punching range.

mcall is knocking on but the last thing you lose is your punch,& knowone knows if fury can hold a shot???he shuts his eye's wen punching ive noticed & pulls his chin up which could spell disaster & a nail in the coffin for itv coverage.

McGuigan plummetted in my estimations (which weren't that high in the first place) after his infuriatingly consistantly negative ridiculous commentary in the Froch-Taylor fight..... it looks as though he's continuing his trend of ridiculousness.
