Bernard Dunne won part of the WBA title with a great win over Cordoba. Why is there no news of next fight? Potentially cracking defence v Poonsawat Krat, or an all WBA "unification" with WBA/IBF champ Caballero.

Caballero's fight with Gamboa fell through, when Gamboa signed with Top Rank. Surely Caballero would like a nice payday vs Dunne? Caballero's a road warrior as proved in wins over Molitor, Sitchatchawal, Ponce de Leon.

It's alarming that things are so quiet after such a remarkable title fight, that Dunne won.


Also Rendall "Dunne Must Fight Me" Munroe. aka "Driver's Seat" Munroe. I read the WBC rankings. Munroe is #2, just behind great Rafael Marquez. Any chance he can get a quick shot at tough WBC champ Nishioka, while Marquez is deciding what he's doing? Trip to Japan, anyoe? Come on Rendall, get in't playground and call him out!

It is strange that everything is gone quite with dunne but all i know is that peters has approached izzy and they are willing to fight in dublin at 126.

looks like we might have to wait until after chris john-juarez 2 as the winner would be a tempting one for vazquez on a golden boy show. if GBP have a piece of vazquez, then that probably rules out vazquez v luevano, and i can't see vazquez going over to japan even though he's been promised a shot at aoh. is dunne a big enough name, will the offer be tasty enough, for vazquez? especially when the featherweight champs are mostly salivating to fight him?

would love to see munroe v nishioka.

I think Nishioka would be a good fight for Munroe as for Dunne would love to see him fight Marquez but he would probably lose but what a fight that would be a more logical fight would be Caballero who is still a good fighter but think Dunne could win

I don't think he's in a rush to get back in the ring. You need a while to recover from a fight like the one against Cordoba, he was almost finished off at one stage in it. With so many dangerous fights in the weight class as well, he's probably making sure to get a fight with the best cash value to risk scenario.

Let Munroe earn a shot if he wants to fight Dunne. If I were Dunne I wouldn't be doing him any favours, especially after how Maloney was trashing him before the Cordoba fight, saying he wouldn't give him a euro title shot.

well it seems that munroe doesn't have too much to offer if fraiiink was talking of a commonwealth title fight. euro scene has gone a bit stale. but these fights have just about earned munroe a WBC title shot. i'm not sure where he stands with the other orgs.

Dunne is to good for Munroe, period. Munroe is a good fighter but he will not beat Dunne, Dunne by tko in late rounds or wide on points......if fight happens, you all wait and see. DD

yeah, probably true, especially if dunne gets another world class win.

i do think bernard is just about "dunne" at super bantam: he looks like a skeleton and risks getting KO'd in world class. he can box beautifully and has a brilliant left hand, though.

i don't think they would fight, even though "bernard HAS to fight rendall for british boxing" (LOL). but it would be interesting if BOTH waged world title fights in their next bouts. a possibility with munroe #2 in WBC rankings - and with #1 contender lining up superfights - surely?

I think Dunne was much stronger at the weight last time against Cordoba than he had been previously.
Saw a photo of him at a football match in Croke Park two weeks ago and he was huge, not quite Hattonesque but very chubby compared to usual. Fair play to him, hope he's enjoying himself.

interestingly, 'barn, i think just as both rendall and Dunne are ready to make the step towards world level, they are both tight enough at the weight to compromise their performance slightly.

however i don't think rendall for one particularly wants to go up. he won't have the size and strength advantages any more.

Is Munroe tight at the weight as well? I wasn't aware of that.

I confess, I don't watch his fights as I find him a bit boring - nothing personal. I really don't like his flashy spells where he throws shots with nothing on them. Rendall looks like a strong bloke but never seems to put real meat in his shots - which puts me off. But he seems strong, persistent, fit enough to justify his world ranking. Just find his fights a bit repetitive to be honest.

from what i heard (from someone that sparred with him) he walks around well, well over the superbantam limit, and thats not fat/ untrained, just a very big solid lad for a 'superbantam'. can't recall exactly what my source said he weighed, i think it was a month b efore a fight, but call it around 9.5/10 stone maybe....

whether that necessarily translates to 'tight at the weight', depends on what you mean by that. as in, 'dragging some to get down there', sure. my guess is the only reason we don't notice it effect his performances (although to an extent i think it does, he seems very one-paced as though he is afriad of shooting his bolt with a couple of flurries) is that the Shinfeilds ALWAYS have their fighters coming in super-fit.

Yeah i have a feeling that dunne thinks he has reached the pinnacle of his career now which is sad. I saw him on the late late show a while back , he was looking fleshy around the face and mcguigan commented on it , at that time he said he was back in the gym

I would love for Dunne to have a good run defending his World title, with Munroe being the first defense.

If he is really tight at the weight, which he does look, then he should just avoid big punchers while he gets some defences in. Once he's made some nice money then he could move up and challenge for a title at feather.

He's got to stay motivated and keep winning though.

i hope not as it wasn't a full world title and the rest of his career is littered with dull names

My mam looks after his kids in the crèche, she asked him was there anything coming up bout wise, his reply was that it will be in Dublin before Christmas & it will be announced soon according to him....

Firstly, for anydoby worried we might be seeing Munroe-Martinez III then don't be! Pat Magee says that Martinez is fighting an IBF eliminator in South Africa against Takalani Ndlovu in September.

WBA ‘interim’ Champion calls out Bernard Dunne.

One of the other two WBA World Champions in Bernard Dunne’s super bantamweight weight division, and the man the Dubliner is set to inherit as a mandatory challenger claims he is the WBA number one, and he can’t wait for the opportunity to face the Irish hero so he can prove it.



Most Irish fight fans believed after Dunne had sensationally knocked out Ricardo Ricardo Cordoba earlier this year he became the sole WBA World Champion. However it seems the Dubliner holds only one third of a world belt.



Some farcical behavior by the World Boxing Association means the boxing association doesn’t just have one undisputed champions but in fact has three.



Celestino Caballero (32-02) is ranked number 1 by the WBA and is World ‘Super’ Champion. Irish hero Dunne is ranked number 2 and is WBA World ‘regular’ Champion, while Thai fighter and PABA Champion, Poonsawat Kratingdaeng (38-01) is WBA ‘interterm” Champion.



Things will get less bizarre when Caballero steps up to flyweight later this year. Dunne will then be promoted to the top of the pile and inherit Kratingdeang as a mandatory challenger. And the Thai fighter, who has also accounted for Ricardo Cordoba, claims he would love to fight the pugilist who reinvigorated boxing in Ireland.



“I am aware there are three champions in the WBA Division, but I think I am the number one. Now I am just waiting for the opportunity to prove it,” Kratingdeang explained.

“In my opinion Bernard Dunne is a talented fighter. I think he is a strong and skillful boxer and is full of craft and energy for 12 rounds. I would like to fight Dunne. I am very confident that I could beat him if he doesn’t try to escape a fight against me.”

The Galaxy boxing promoted puncher, who like Dunne only has one blemish on his record, stressed despite speculation in both the Thai and Irish press, and the fact he is the mandatory challenger, contact has yet to be made with camp Dunne. However he indicated he would have no problem fighting in Ireland.

“We haven't talked with Bernard Dunne or his manager yet. But I would fight him anywhere. With my condition right now, I can go fight anywhere in the world. Of course, fighting in Ireland would give Dunne a big advantage. However, I'm still very confident that I could beat him.”

Cab was set to challenge - wait for it - Gamboa for the WBA "regular" FEATHERWEIGHT title. However, Gamboa signed with Top Rank, and will now fight Whyber Garcia on a Chavez Jr undercard.

Oh the irony. Gamboa on Rubber Lips' undercard, when he was on verge of fighting a major name. Think Can is staying at super bantam.
