The Sunday Express reports that ITV has cancelled all live boxing coverage.

What with Setanta on the ropes, it doesn't look good.

EMBATTLED ITV is scrapping its boxing coverage after revealing it can no longer afford to screen costly live fights.

An ITV spokesman said the overheads associated with its Big Fight Live show were simply too expensive. “At the moment, boxing on free-to-air commercial TV is not economically sustainable,” he said.

Bosses pulled the plug just nine months into a two-year deal after broadcasting only 11 live shows.

From what I read last week Hennesy didn't get close to delivering the amount of cards he was supposed to.

Just as well, If ITV can't afford it then the plug would have been pulled sooner.

At least we still have the new Jordan reality show to look forward to.

Watched the Big Fight Review on saturday night and it said that the Cleverly card was still live on ITV4 on July 18th. Quite looking forward to that night with the Khan card on Sky after

ITV will show the Hennessy bills until the end of the year as first revealed in Boxing News on June 12 (and unofficially by Barry McGuigan the week before). This Express journalist took most of that story from me – though did not alert me to the finished piece for some reason – so this is not new information. they are not cutting the content from today but have given notice that's it's finished after Christmas.

ITV refused to comment on get-out clauses but I would imagine that's what they have activated

Just thought ud like to know how i knew i was right. And the sun story had no confirmation from itv

Does it need confirmation from ITV to be right.

Is that a serious question? It needs confirmation to be confirmed, otherwise it's just rumour and conjecture.

Or a true story from a source. Its unlikely to have just been a rumour or conjecture, otherwise it would have been completely out of leftfield and swiftly followed by a legal threat and denial from ITV. The very fact that it turned out to be true, shows it was a true story from a reliable source and thus good journalism.

I suppose the expenses scandal or Watergate just became stories when people admitted they were true, did they?

If that's the case, let's never bother with official confirmation then. Let's just assume everything is true until told otherwise. I'm not saying unofficial stories can't be true, just that when they are officially confirmed it is worth reporting.

One good thing now ITV and Setanta are gone is thank god I wont have to listen to straight boy "the officials and promoters are always right and general public know nothing" Rawling and random cliché squarkbox McKenzie.

Look at this way, if you were a broadcaster would you be interested in investing in a sport that has mis-matches, weak 'world tile' fights, cancellations & weak undercards?

Is it just a rumour when these boxing forums really started to get busy that Boxing News got a lot of their info from here and thus the expression "what goes around, comes around" springs to mind!!!
