ok he was a bit cocky when he was a kid but he comes across as a really humble, respectful bloke now. Gets knocked for his achievements whilst other fighters get a pat on the back for doing it the old fashioned way (ie british, commonwealth, euro).

OK, the world titles not legit, but its hardly a WBU type of affair. Why does he rub people up the wrong way?

I believe he can still make an impact at lightweight

because he didn't have a rematch with michael gomez which would have avenged the KO defeat, and because he got a world title handed to him despite never winning a world title fight. as ian darke saidm he won it in a board room, not a boxing ring.

Thing is, he came back and moved WAY past gomez winning the euro, fight didnt really make sense after mike lost the WBU and quit vs that irish lad.


Im michael gomez biggest fan but i think alex wouldve totally dominated him in the rematch, he was so faded even then.

i'm just surprised there was no mention of a rematch until gomez v burns was getting close!

another reason why "people hate alex arthur": he was rude to ken buchanan, a true scortish gree-at!

Hate is too strong but I'll never forgive him for coining the phrase 'undisputed WBO champion' with no sign of tongue in cheek

I thought he looked a prat, grinning at the camera after getting pasted to the floor by Michael Gomez.

Then ever since he has been a bit of a personality vacuum.

His 'Me and Nicky Cook are taking our families out for nice meal next week' after losing the title was a tad strange.

Stranger still, was the fact that 24 hours later he said that it was a 'robbery' and he blamed the 'English judges'.

Then even weirder than all the above, was a week later he apologised and changed his mind, declaring that Cook was the legit winner.

That's why people dont like him, cos he is a prat.

I wouldn't go as far as saying HATE him as thats waaay to strong and i'm sure in company he's not a bad lad at all.

Why do people on here think it is the responsibility of the loser to give the winner a rematch, just like with Khan-Prescott? Surely it should be the other way round.

on facebook gomez is now fighting on the un-licenced now what a come down from what he has done in the past

I like him, so there are a few that like him on her as well, so opening statement is rubbish!!

it was a massive mark against him, the one fight that ppl looked forward to. the one fight that ppl remember "amazing alex" for. this, truly, is his "career defining fight." i would call it his "career-DECLINING fight", to abuse warren's cliche!

indeed it is but i dont think he's skillful enough to win at the top of super feather (he was awarded the vacant title world tile fights hes 0-1)
at lightweight i cant see him beating anyone in the top 20

the arthur-cook fight would of been a eu fight 20 years ago and thats where i belive his level is

the 2 times I've met him he seemed ok but that was a little while ago, grinning into the camera did him no favours and also I remember him blowing kisses to his wife during the 12th round of a European title fight when in a clinch. That doesn't particularly bother me but it doesn't endure yourself to a lot of people.

i do agree with you about his level though. is yuri romanov still euro lightweight champ? could this fight happen?

no he vacted ages ago and thaxton won the vacant title which he lost to mezzasch (prob spelt wrong) though romanov is rated number 1 challenger should he want to fight for it again but i think hes waiting for a title shot which he deserves

romanov and arthur are highly rated by the wbo so if teh title becomes vacant they could feasibly clash for i though i only see 1 winner in romanov
