Ricky Hatton...why should it be over?

Ok, so he lost two in a row against two "top level" fighters and proved that he's not exactly an elite fighter himself. But, its all in the match making. Its not like boxing has any kind of legit ranking system...just the promoters bribing the phoney baloney sanctioning bodies to rank bums high so their charges can fight them for big money at a low risk.

It shouldn't be over for Ricky. Hatton...like America's Arturo Gatti...has personality. Personality goes a long way. Fans loved him and he sold the house out every time.

There are still a few top guys Hatton would likely beat. The fact is...Hatton is a natural BRAWLER...he's NOT a boxer. Yeah, he has some limited boxing skills and he has tremendous stamina. But when matched against advanced stylistic boxers...he can't deal. Pacman is a big puncher but people forget that he's a very skillful boxer. Sure, he makes mistakes that can be exploited but only by other, more accomplished technical boxers. Mayweather caught him with a perfect shot that saw Ricky bang his head into the ring post...what may have influenced the KO. Not making excuses...I do like Ricky, he puts on good fights...especially when well matched. I can see him beating the likes of, Amir Khan, Joan Guzman, Andreas Kotelnik, Dimitri Salita, etc.

It would be nice to see him fight guys like Victor Ortiz, Nate Campbell, Ricardo Torres!!...and why not go after what would DEFINITELY sell out the house...Junior Witter!

Otherwise, Ricky should just retire, enjoy his kids, his family, wife and a very rich life. He's a good kid and now he can get as fat as he likes if he retires.

so in short, he should either fight the likes of Ortoz, Salita, Kotelnik, Bradley, Campbell, Torres..

or on the other hand he should retire.

thanks for clearing that one up

for the record i think if he fights again it will be a Lazcano-type farewell fight 'city of manchester stadium to say goodbye and thanks to my loyal fans'

My mate saw Ricky Hatton boozed up in Canal Street last night with his missus and Gok Wan!

I know he always does this between fights but someone on here said he was pissed up in Dusseldorf a few days ago as well.

Perhaps he will retire now, or one more and out.

He can;'t get away with boozing and eating so much at this point in his career, it's caught up with him IMO.

Either way, he's not back in the gym and getting into the best shape of his life after getting KOd last time out..

We shall see...perhaps he was just there for fashion tips..

Its only a thankyou to loyal fans if they get a huge discount isn't it.

Otherwise, isn't he just lining his pockets one more time.

It'll just be a SBO/HBO do, with a shitty undercard, a mediocre lightweight opponent and lots of fawning.

When in truth the only fight you would think that could motivate Hatton now would be Witter.

Be interesting to see what shakes out if Khan loses and Witter wins.

I think Hatton is holding out for the Khan result before deciding.

Massive pay-day and a chance to nick Khan?

Its not over for Hatton if he doesn't want it to be. I think there are avenue's back... Campbell, Berto (easy fight to make).

Berto, not sure he should be looking at Andre as a comeback fight, dont see anything other thana good hiding if he does.

Agree though, course he can comeback, be nice to see him have maybe 2 fights in quick succession then look at a title shot.

he went fomr what some people called his best performance in years to being beaten soundly by the p4p number 1 who appears a once in a decade fighter.

Hatton doesn't have "tremendous stamina".

Hatton ran from Witter for 10 years now. What makes you think he'll suddenly change his tune?

Victor Ortiz and Ricardo Torres would easily KO Hatton in my opinion. Campbell would be a better fight for Hatton to take, but he might lose that too.

He really needs to focus on fighting Khan for the WBA belt if Khan beats Kotelnik.

He has tremendous stamina, he ran from Junior Witter for years without stopping.

guys like torres, campbell, holt, would be perfectly good comeback opponents.

he hasn't looked his old self in recent fights (since floyd fight).

i do think pac's style just clashed badly with rick's though.

it always looked a horrible style for hatton.

I think he has done everything he can do in a boxing ring he showed he was a good LWW Champion the best of his generation but he came up wanting at the top level there is no shame in that I think he should bow out and focus on promoting

It had nothing to do with style HitmanHatton, it was a disaster from first bell to KO mate...

It was a tight-rope from Tsyzu. A good deal of luck, some good boxing and some better match-making.

Hatton peaked before Tszyu, but Tszyu was his best performance.

agreed. he really hasn't been the same fighter since Tszyu. Clearly that fight took enough out of Kostya to make him call it a day, maybe it took more out of Ricky than we first thought too.

He should considor retiring because he has been on the slide for a few years and takes far too many shots now,he was given a good beating by pretty boy then was awfull in his comeback, and everyone knows what happened with pac man,the time comes when your body can't take it anymore and that time appears to have arrived for Ricky,he could probably compete for a few more fights but will take lots of shots, unless he bombs them out in the first round, which is not his style. He has also stopped boxing too,no head movement or latteral movement and no jabs, just straight in trying to land bombs,so yes he should retire and spend his hard earned cash.

I'd like if he beat the sh1t out of Khan in a farewell fight then retired.

bollocks.

bad style.

a fast left hander with a punch.

faster than anyone he's fought in his career by a street.

pac was fast at the lower weights, let alone 140.

hatton is a better fighter than that fight is basically what i'm saying.

diaz lasts 9 rds and hatton would crucify a guy like diaz.

That Pacquaio fight was something else - I really doubt Pacquiao would win so convincingly.... well sorry wrong wording, so quickly if they fought another 10 times.

Pacquiao showed he had the power to Buzz Ricky in the first, but that shot in the 2nd was a one a million shot.

Ricky Hatton is a proud man and he wanted to be the p4p number 1. It proved to be just a step too far against Mayweather so he carried on by beating Lazcano and Malignaggi and got the chance to fight Pacman who in the absence of PBF was the best fighter on the planet who could make LWW. Again he lost to an elite fighter and this time badly. He has proved to himself and the World he can beat anyone except those who stand alone at the top of the tree. For Ricky that isnt good enough, that puts him in second place to both men, but Ricky wanted to prove he was number 1 in the World and nothing else would do. IMO he didnt look good physically for the Pacman fight and I believe his lifestyle has finally caught up with him. IMO he did everything he could to reach the top of the podium. He has been a great fighter, theres no doubt about that but Manny and Floyd are in that very rare elite class and Hatton sadly doesnt belong with them. Hatton doesnt need the money to fight on and why would he fight people in a class below him. Given the difficulties of making the weight and being as sharp as he was he could very well lose. Its one thing being stopped by the elite and another being whupped by a guy he could have ran rings round 2 years ago. I believe its time he quit and put his efforts into promoting and guest appearances on FFN and SBO.

Three reasons.
Nothing to prove. He reached his peak.
Bank balance.
His health.

Nice well-rounded argument pal, you do yourself no favours.

If Hatton is a better fighter than that fight why did he get knocked out in two? Because Pacquaio is two or three times the fighter Hatton is, end of story.

I like Hatton, but he's had his day......

And his constant weigh gain and loss, drinking and the fact he's been taking too many punches of late...

A fast left hander with a punch? Sadly Pacman is much, much more than that...

He could have been a "fast right hander with a punch", he'd have still beaten Hatton.

It was night and day mate.

PS Diaz was smashed to bits from 3/4 onwards, his bravery and chin got him through it.
