Anyone else noticed that SSNews is now an extra £1 with the fall of Setanta News?
I congratulated them by cancelling the sports channels package and told them to fornicate off.

It aint free to air on my sky+ box since I cancelled sky sports. It is free upstairs though on my old ON Digital box.

I like Sky Sports News you dont have to pay for it but i think Setanta news had the better presenters imo

I didn't realise this. I could see why Sky might charge on Freeview - to encourage people to go Satelite... but on Sky?

How does it work? Do you need a seperate subscriptions JUST for Sky Sports news? That sounds odd. I would assume it comes free with the sports channels.

No, its part of the "News and Events mix" which contains such channels as Eurosport, Eurosport 2, CNN, Sky News, SSN etc. and now ESPN America.

I was on about this to the Missus - Te more I think about all of this with Setanta and ITV bowing out the more I am thinking I will not be held to ransom by Sky TV.
Really do not know what I am going to do!!
Is cancelling the solution?
cutting the nose to spite the face springs to mind when you are sports nutcases!!!

Lets be serious here - a lot of us are sports junkies if that is the right phrase - by cancelling Sky although that seems to be the right thing to do - as already mentioned isn't cutting the nose to spite the face type of situation??

Setanta news was pritty poor [apart from Buncey's boxing hour] because they got fans involved at stupid times for stupid events. They f**ked up an interview very badly because they gave fans too much of a voice.

i pay my 30-40 pound a month & i watch only sports,some of the rubbish ive saw i'd prefer to keep my money because all the decent stuff is ppv.

I still think it's crazy that they only sell PPV to people who have already subscribed to SKY. Seems more logical to have it as a stand-alone event.

Think I will cancel sky sports. You can always resubscribe if there's a fight you really want to watch.

Seems a pretty clever way to do it!
That said, it's so rare anything worthwhile is on anyway, and if it is there are alwyas pubs, other people's houses etc.

I think when any company holds a monopoly of the market, its bad for the audiences. Sky used to put on outstanding shows 5-10 years ago. Their coverage is good when they do cover a fight, although their hyping of fighters can be nauseus. However they just don't cover enough fights. Its sickening but thats not going to change imo.
