Most definately the nearly man of Irish boxing, and now after giving up his belt acting as a gentleman to let 2 guys fight and save a bill - his fight to get it back has now gone also................................ oh and the guy who is holding the belt wont give it up according to team magee, after it was muted that magee could fight ddson for it.

I thought boxing was a gentlemans sport.

Any wonder its getting dirty business wise, and look what its resulting in.

No i'm not a member of team magee, but a passsionate irish boxing supporter.

Aye, both Magee and Paul david can consider themselves as having been royally fooked over by this whole deal at 168lbs.

Quigley should have been more gracious, but never mind, hopefully he gets stopped when he fights next.

i am going to say again, Paul David was hard done by. i say this because there seems to have been plenty of attention on Magee's hard luck but less on David's....

probably it serves him right for having two christian names as his name.

Take your point, but he would have had no guarantee of an immediate title fight again

yeah yove got to feel sorry for magee as quigly will now fight smith meaning magee probalu wont fight for the british titlle till early nxt year

It was good of him to let Dobson and Quigley fight for the belt I think he would beat Quigley but at British level there are lots of good fights for Magee if he wins against Quigley

Magee is probably a real nice guy 'an all, and he beat a man who beat Duran, but I would rather walk in the rain than watch him fight.

Paul David's hard luck story is overstated, he is the English champion and will get his chance at some point if he keeps winning. Look at his record, I don't think he deserves to be made a mandatory challenger for the British title based on that.

Magee seems like a nice guy but there were rumours around for weeks that he was going to pull out of the Dodson fight. He wasn't being cooperative with Hayemaker to help promote the show and then he gets injured.

Ask Brian if, and how much he was paid to be a gentleman and vacate....

I wondered that, if Magee was given a "sweetener" to vacate the belt.

Magee is unlucky that the bill has been scrapped, but I got the impression that the bill was scrapped mainly because of this mess with Setanta etc. Plus I also think Hayemaker seriously misjudged the ticket prices for the Echo arena show. I went with friends, who both said it was a good evening, but at that price they are unlikley to go again.

Boxing is the gentlemens sport, correct. But boxing is the pay your bills and feed your kids sport too.
People thinking he gave the title up out of good will is pretty naive to say the least.

He vacated on Hayemaker's promise of first shot at the winner. They forgot to notify the BBBoC....

To be fair, in this case the winner pulled out injured- are Hayemaker still likely to match Quigley with Magee when Quigley is ready to fight?

not that much sympathy for magee, remember him pulling out of a fight cos he didnt fancy the opponent at late notice some years back

Wasn't this the whole Brian Barbosa affair when Tony Dodson came in and blasted the Yank away?

Putting this aside wasn't Magee screwed in the Joe Calzaghe/Mario Veit/WBO scandal in 2004?

Whatever you think of him, Brian is a top fella who does a lot for the local community and is a credit to Belfast boxing IMO.

Brian Magee has the beating of all British super middleweights, except Froch (obviously).

So basically, because Quigley was injured, but didn't vacate the title, Magee has effectivly been "left out in the cold."

Correct and thanks for the social insight very commendable , however this doesnt change the fact he has been guilty of the same thing that is being moaned about here. Karma can be a bitch.
