in honor of my great friend irene i'll start a new topic where a fighter is named and in your opinion, list what the fighter's biggest/most important fight was and if they won or lost. for example, my fave fighter is roy jones and i think his biggest fight was when he beat ruiz at heavyweight. then i'll list another fighter for someone else to answer. i think we'll be surprised at how many greats lost their biggest fight. list the biggest fight for:
ray robinson

Wow this one is hard to pick a single bout, but I'd say in sheer perception it would have been his comeback win to claim the MW title in his second dance with Bassilio.
From the sublime to the ridiculous now.....\
Sven Ottke......(I know I know just like SRR there are so many to choose from!!)

Do you think maybe his fight with Maxim?? You're right, lots of choices.

Charles Brewer is Otkes best win.
Next: Billy Petrolle

Robinson's is easy for me. It's his one punch knockout of Fullmer.
Petrolle's I'd say is his decision win over Jimmy McLarnin.
NEXT Rocky Kansas

Pryor I- He had so many great wins, but that fight was clearly the best and had so much on the line. Incredible performance by both fighters and I think that is what comes to mind when you hear either mans name.
Wilfred Benitez

Leonard was probably bigger, but Hearns was the most important, IMO.

I'd like to say your name sake, but i think the second fight loss against ODH was more important after they had both moved up to Welter. Kostya did spell the end of his world class career though.
Bring this through the natural progression -

Either the Judah fight, which he was the betting underdog if I remember right, or the 2nd Sharmba Mitchell fight, when he was coming off an injury, and against Mitchell, who he struggled with in their first meeting until Mitchell was injured.

i'll say the second title defense vs. tendler. raylawpc, i would disagree with you about ali. the first frazier fight was probably his biggest and well as maybe the biggest of all-time.

You'd have never seen Ali-Frazier if he hadn't beat Liston. But, beyond that, the fight was considered, at the time, as one of the biggest upsets in boxing history. It also ushered in a career that re-energized boxing in the early 1960s, which had been in the doldrums.
(Somebody else can take Langford).

Difficult to say in the moment of his day, but I suppose, retrospectively, his fight with Johnson, as that was probably his greatest career opponent, & he performed admirably. Possibly his sparking of a green George Godfrey also breathed fresh life into the latter stages of his career.
(Incidentally, Ali once said his biggest moment was with Foreman, & I'm inclined to agree --- though I can see a much better case for his first encounter with Frazier than the Liston argument).

Eubank II- It solidified his first win wasn't a fluke and he was an elite fighter at 68.
From earlier I don't see leonard above Cervantes for Wilfred. That's a record that more than likely will never be broken.
How about Victor Galindez?

I'd say Lennox. Lennox was probably the most highly regarded of anyone Tyson had ever fought, and the fight broke PPV records.

Tough to call, as it's hard to single out one of his fights as clearly standing out from the others. I think I'd say the second Yaqui Lopez fight, as Lopez was coming off a super impressive win over Mike Rossman, and some people thought he had already beaten Galindez in their first fight.
