Just watched this now.
I had the Scot losing 75/77 but the whole Sky team thought he won easily and Johnny Nelson said that he won every round.
Just wondering, what were your scores?

Too easy to hit, no power, pulls out with his chin up and hands down. Boone wasn't great, but landed the only really effective shots. McEwan threw more, but most were arm-punches when Boone was on the ropes. No power or effectiveness.

Dioufy, are you Jim watt in disguise? I had McEwan losing only rounds 5 and 8 and 8 was only because he had the fight won and decided to mix it a bit.

Jim Watt had the fight pretty clear for McEwan. Anyways, it's my opinion, I thought he lost.
All he did was hit Boone when he was covering up with arm-punches and flashing shots that look good, but are ineffective. The best punches come from Boone. Three or four clean, precise, power shots take precedent over a few swarming punches.
And what's with the switch-hitting? He looked bad doing it against Hilario, or whatever he was called, and he looked awful doing it again against Boone. I really can't see him going far. He reminds me of a very poor John Duddy, perhaps without the chops.
Barker, Macklin and Smith probably bash him up. I wouldn't rule McDermott out too.

Dioufy, I am stunned by what you think you saw. Craig was hitting him cleanly throughout. I hope someone posts it on You Tube and we can go through it round by round. Watt has a problem with switch hitting but can`t explain why. What`s yours? At the end of round seven you can hear Freddy Roach praising Craig for his switching and telling him to keep leading with the left.
It was not a great fight for Craig but he won it easily, which, given he was just coming off a 4 week sparring lay off due to a hairline fracture in his hand, was a good result.
Do you think Barker could deal with someone as awkward as Boone? Could Macklin outpunch Brian Vera, McEwan`s last victim(which some British boxing "fans" felt was a poor performance)? Quite frankly, though I admire Barker and Macklin, they`re own records (especially Darren`s) are puffy to say the least. Remember other Brits who have fought American boxers and been found wanting. As for the other two, behave yourself, Dioufy!
And "arm punching!" This was a phrase adopted by Watt and Darke which they repeated all night, supposedly to describe McEwan`s lack of punching power. Boone had previously floored Andre Ward so why didn`t he just walk through McEwan`s "arm punches" and KO him?
I am not saying that Craig is going to be a world beater but it is significant that he gets little or no encouragement from British pundits and fans. If Darren or Matthew had gone to the States and disposed of Vera and Boone in quick succession would they have been mocked and criticised for it , the way McEwan has? I think not!
We Scots are often criticised for failing to support the English abroad but the disgraceful treatment Craig has received at the hands of British boxing fans and pundits has been shameful. Watt`s antipathy has been particularly hard to swallow!

It's the way I saw it, as did one of the other judges.
I am glad you alluded to the fact that you're Scottish, as it saves me asking an obvious question. Yes, I admit, I may have given the close rounds to Boone because he landed the better shots. I can't recall McEwan landing one shot that jerked back Boone's head back. I also don't care whether Boone floored Ward as well - look at his record, he has lost ten times or so. And won not much more. Regarding McEwan again, that's the second time I have seen him, and he's so easy to hit. He also fails to have a decent punch, regardless of if you dispute that.
I don't rate swarming punches that are ineffective and hit the guard. Come on, mate. I may be wrong with my scoring but some of the rounds were close and people give them to McEwan because he was the prospect and seemed to be doing a lot more whether he landed cleanly or not.
And Barker's been over to North America and done a better job on someone a whole heap better than Boone. Smith has a few good wins over in America too. And I have seen the Hilario and Boone fights and he hasn't impressed me once.
Oh and before you go on about me being biased because he's Scottish... well that's just rubbish. I even wanted him to come over for the Khan and Kotelnik bill to fight Macklin. If I watch a fighter a few times and have not been impressed by him, then why should I applaud him? In my opinion, people are going on about him because he's in the Wildcard with Freddie Roach. He definitely needs to change the way he fights - he will lose rounds when he gets caught going backwards with his hands down, chin up. Like I feel he did against Boone.
I will also admit that I may have got the scoring wrong for Boone/McEwan, but that doesn't change my opinion of him going no where unless he changes his style. Quality over quantity is the perfect cliche for him.
And don't get your knickers in a twist, mate.
IMO.

Perhaps that's because he just isn't that good. I haven't see the Vera fight, which is a good name on his record, but like I have said before. He got hit plenty off Hilario and Boone. Maybe that's because McEwan works better against an aggressive customer, but Boone was that, and he allowed himself to get hit by clean shots. Against someone who plants their feet and has decent timing, power and accuracy, he will get stopped. Look at his face at the end. He was cut and had a lot of bruising. If Boone can do that to him, then imagine what Barker and Macklin could do. Again, you will automatically assume I am being biased because of his, and your, nationality, when in truth I am being honest. Just don't get your hopes up of national success based on McEwan.
And Watt is Scottish, right? And he criticised him plenty.

Err... perhaps it's something to do with him getting hit by a left-hook every time he switches from orthodox. I think you feel that I watched it on Sky, when I watched it on the net. Sky pundits aren't good, so I don't listen to them. I have been known to watch certain fights with the sound completely off.

Don't be daft. Boone comes forward with his chin up wanting to fight. You talk of him like he's the second coming of Floyd Mayweather jr. Half of the time Boone was on his arse because he kept losing balance. Surely there was an opportunity to knock him over. Or at least jerk his napper back.

Just to let you know, I will concede that I probably got the scoring wrong - I think everyone has a bad one every now and again, but that doesn't change my opinion of him. Even though he got beat by Lyndsey, I would say Appleby will go further as a professional boxer for Scotland. McEwan just isn't too great, IMO.

I think they will both go far as Appelby is still young and has a lot of talent i feel he could go far but McEwan is also looking good imo i didnt see the fight against Boone but so far I have been impressed with his career though

Tell me, what fights have you been impressed by? Of course, the Vera result was a good one, but did you watch that? I have only seen the Lopez and Boone fights and he looked anything but impressive. And he's on the wrong side of twenty.

McEwans workrate deservedly earnt him the win IMO, but he was far from impressive. Alot of his shots were taken on the gloves
