ive just been reading bret harts autobiography and hes describing when his dad hired rocky to be a guest ref, he got a cheque for however much then said he had never recieved it and was given another and he cashed both
there are other example on the net from after he retired does anyone know if it happened in his pro carrier - that he was paid for a fight twice or did public apperances and conned them out of money?

He might have been a bit of a conman, but Mr Marciano was certainly more than just a bit of a fighter!
Despite whats written, we can never be sure!

i am president of the united states bank of pugilism (USBP) and i can confirm that my client, Mr R Marciano, never cashed two cheques from the same source without trying for a third.

..when the word check was spoken by a waiter, as in "..i hope you enjoyed your meal...here is the check" rocky's stubby legs broke the three minute mile in dashing him away. he was america's guest. at one dinner the guy who picked up the check said, "Rocky, you take care of the tip" and he was furious. He said his money was "blood money" and what the hell, i can't blame him. he was in a few wars it's nice not to have taken part in, and he earned it.

dont agree. i and loads of people across the globe work hard doing whatever we do so we can pay for things. not so we can get things for free.

I think one of the funniest things I read in a book about Rocky Marciano was that later in life he had some kind of beef with the telephone company and use to walk around using pay phones with a washer with a peice of string attached so he can put it down a phone and get free calls!

....and the chances are he didn't have to pay for the washer...

Marciano was well known for being very tight with his money so that doesn't surprise me.

Reportly seen often walking around town with grocery bags or somebody with him carrying a grocery bag.
I also had heard he rolled up a lot of bills and stuck them in pipes.
