I hear he's going to be on one of their bills and will drop down a division.

Confirm anyone?

I honestly don't mean this in a bad way- but, so what?

He's a decent, English level fighter, but let's be honest- he isn't a prospect , I don't really see what significance it makes who he is promoted by.

Well... I like him, and just because he's not a Hatton, Khan or Calzaghe, people do care what he does next. Perhaps not you, but to others, yes, IMO.

Move him down to 130 - better chance at winning a domestic belt. He is very competent but doesn't quite seem strong enough. He did show potential v Gethin, which was a cracking win for Lawton or any other domestic guy, so if he can do 130 without weakening himself, why not? It seems that Lawton has filled out a bit as a lightweight, he looks stronger and a bit sturdier than he used to. So I'm not sure whether moving down will be good or not. If it's even true.

given Burns' showing against O Hara - Lawton vs Burns won't be a bad scrap.

agreed Burns Lawton would be a good fight

i think the trip down would be a bit too far though and Burns would outbox him in the late rounds, win by 3-4 points

A good signing for Hatton Promotions for one big reason - he sells a lot of tickets!!!

"Meanwhile, Scott Lawton is preparing to step down a weight, to super-featherweight, after failing to win the British title at lightweight.

Lawton was defeated by John Murray in Wigan in June, fuelling reports that he was set to retire from the sport.

But he told BBC Radio Stoke: "I'm hoping to be boxing again at the end of August and I'll be moving down a weight, so hopefully I'll be getting a bit more success at super-featherweight.

"I'll be fighting on one of Ricky Hatton's bills. It's all looking good and I'm looking towards the future.

"We've got no opponent lined up yet, but I'm just looking forward to getting in there." "

Well, if he's popular and sells tickets, then there we go - the reason for interest in him.

Fair enough! It's good to see the sport getting some publicity, such as in that BBC Stoke article.

its interesting though, after his last outing he was considering retirement, didn't want to keep asking the people of Stoke to keep coming out only to see him lose...

Boxrec (and the BBBofC have agreed to it) have got him defending his English Lightweight strap to Steve Saville Wolverhampton Sept 18th.

Maybe vacating?

he should defend if he has a date with Saville. that one would get a fair few tickets sold at the Stoke end and the wolverhampton end.

Lawton wins UD unless 'Bomber' Saville manages to catch him while his feet are squared and planted (Saville's feet that is) in which case Saville could KTFO him, but i wouldn't bet on it.

Hopefully happens mate definitely a good coup for PJ/Errol that one, both have big fanbases, not a million miles away.

As for the fight pretty much agree, unless Saville can land some big hurtful punches I can see Lawton winning a clear UD maybe even forcing a late stoppage (more through frustration or maybe a cut than actually having Saville down).
