The British middleweight champion Matthew Macklin is set to fight the Commonwealth champion Darren Barker at Alexandra Palace in London on September 5.

Mick Hennessy has won the right to promote the fight.

This could be FOTY over here Darren has all the moves & I favour him to win on points against a much stronger Macklin now that he's fighting at full middleweight his fight with Elcock showed just how far he has come since he lost to Jammie Moore IMO he will push Darren all the way but Darren looks to be a step to far for him

by the way Terry, I am starting to get a bad feeling about Macca's next trip, awayday in Manchester on a Hatton card against a Hatton fighter, and Butler's record suggests he can fight a bit. a 2nd round stoppage of Jamie Ambler ain't to be sneezed at. Macca can't afford to lose the english title it's what will keep him viable and in the mix at middleweight.

hope i can get tickets fot this well worth the 4 hour trip

Should be a Great fight, excellent matchmaking. I'm hoping Macklin can win this one, but I think Barker will quite rightly be installed as favourite. What's Barker like when he comes underfire from a BIG powerful middleweight??

Very glad to see this fight happening I really fancy Barker for this 1 he seems to be getting better every fight I say wideish UD Macklin will give it a good go and give him trouble but i think Barkers quality will shine through

boxers who box cutely or tidily on the outside are usually in a different league to aggressive pressure fighters. at least on boxrec, they are.

If Maklin is underdog then I'll be putting a few quid on Maklin that's for sure!! After seeing Barker hurt by Samuels and McIntosh I fancy I Maklin knockout!!

I didn't see them Barker fights. How badly was he hurt? Was he down? Did he show a good recovery?

McIntosh had him down twice(really hard) and on the verge of being stopped.
Barker did recover reasonably well and boxed very well the rest of the fight to take the decision.

But I don't think Macklin would let him off the hook in that situation and I don't think Macklin is going to let him off the hook.

Didn't know his chin was questionable.

That will affect my prediction. He should outbox Macklin but I was thinking he might be able to weather the storm if he gets caught. Seemingly he won't be able to do that. It's now a very difficult fight to call for me.

I agree mate could be a very tough night. Hatton's have been pushing Butler for a while now, think theyre first show was in Bristol with him headlining wasn't it?

at first i thought barker fairly comfortably on points but macklin has a serious chance of winning by knockout.

cracking domestic tussle will definetly be attending
