Sly Sports - i'm cancelling !

Well, now Setanta are gone i envisaged that Sky would would purchase and regurgitate their line up and get us paying an additional £15 over and above our subscriptions to see it and i was right. Any fight worth it's salt they will hit us for another £15 on top, each and every bloody time. Considering it's a working man's sport, they take the piss.

Now Haye & Khan are both set to be on PPV, I get the feeling i wont be the only one set to turn it off.

I suppose it's been long overdue, but as a non-footy fan, other than Friday Fight night i have no other reason to subscribe to Sly Sports.

Generally their Fridays have been garbage anyway and with respect, i dont pay £100+ a year to watch a bunch of midgets fight it out in a 3-fighter deep division. When were not watching that, we get a week-old delay showing of Berto v Collazo.

I can get better fights, for free, either live or delayed by 24 hours for absolutely nothing online. I know that's a mercenary attitude, as i want to put my cash back into the sport i love - but these cowboys rip the arse out of it - and for that reason, I'm out.

Havent subscribed to them in ages and certainly havent missed much, I hear whispers they may have signed Hennessey.

What I want is the big US fights, Sky used to be good, then stopped caring, then Setanta went for it and now they've gone bust.

I want a channel to charge me £15 a month for 2 quality US or Brit cards per month, too much to ask?

Well I watch football and also other sports which can only be viewed on Sky Sport so I won't be cutting my nose off to spite my face by cancelling it but I do agree with the standard of boxing coverage, especially over the last 12 months, very little in the way of international bouts and some very poor domestic cards as well.

their program has been pathetic. the pundits have lowered themselves talking up such rubbish & pulliing their muppet faces in close up. it's like watching a presenter plugging products on the QVC channel, it's like Chuck Norris telling you how much he loves his exercise chair, and how you should have one too. promoters should be embarrassed. whoever runs FFN should know better.

i cancelled my sky sports package last week do not miss it one bit, if they sort there fights out to be decent 50/50 fights then i might go back but i do not think they will do much with boxing. sky will just keep throwing money at football

£15 for khan fight a joke,

hall v small should be the level of friday night fights 50/50 fight

Sky Sports is shit, I cancelled a month ago and don't miss it a bit.

I don't have time to watch the Ashes, sure there will be the odd thing, the test for me will come when the footy season restarts - I'll see how it goes, might get it back but I really don't want to pay the feckers for what is blatantly a reduced service to what they used to have (certainly in terms of boxing coverage).

I'm in same boat as banjo. Would love to get rid but I can't because of the football.

This is an excellent thread and one that needs to be listened to.

In this day and age everyone seems to expect something for nothing. But you're saying that you would be prepared to pay if the standard was OK.

Friday Fight Night should have a British title level (or close) match headlining it and by definition that should be competitive (unless you get the odd situation like Witter in his pomp, Brook, etc). Then there should be a couple of genuine 50-50 fights despite the kids' records and perhaps the odd prospect.

That's it. No one's saying we should have Haye v Klitschko every week. Charging on top for the best might just be acceptable...but Khan isn't, is he? And having adverts on a PPV is taking the piss beyond belief.

As has been said, perhaps the worst aspect of it is how they treat the fans like idiots, talking up average scrappers (what's wrong with that, ffs?) as if they are world beaters.

Promoters should be promised the 70k or whatever and two weeks before the show should have to give the fight list to someone who knows what they're talking about. If it's shite, f*ck it, forget the show. Show a repeat of some classic bouts. If the fights fall out late, find an acceptable replacement or you're docked money.

I don't know who they have looking at these bills but I'd do some quality assurance for them. For a fee. 8)

Totally agree with what you have said there. I'm just hoping they do sign Hennessy (imo he put on some cracking friday fight nights last time he was with sky) and hayemaker. Why does the only domestic boxing we have on TV have to be on Fridays only these days, yesterday i re-watched the Froch Magee friday fight night from a few years back, that week on the friday they had that bill, the tuesday Martin Power bill and the thursday Mutley Vs Anderson, 3 good domestic cards in less than a week (they also advertised Corralles Casamayor 3 for just over a week away-again top aerican action that Sky seem to be lacking these days), I'm hoping they will try and fill the Setanta gap and show even more domestic action. Anything above domestic action involving an English fighter will result in PPV (where Sky are confirmed) so thats a negative imo.

just an idea here people but if we are all leaving sky sports maybe we should do a list of people from here who have canceled in the last 2 months and send it to the people at sky saying why we are leaving and why.

Why not just stop british boxing all together, Sky have be the life line of british boxing. You call yourself fans all you ever do is moan on this web site.
It would be a lot cheaper for sky to just take usa fights and drop british boxing all together, So what would happen if they did to british boxing is that what you all want on here...............Any way sky give to a great lot more that just boxing they have help british sport right across the field.

Unfortunately, its seems not only are the BBBoC accomodating Sky and their promoters by sanctioning terrible commonwealth fights, but also creating new devisions to help matters.

No disrespect to any involved... but Chris Edwards last fight and Haskins vs Burkinshaw should not be headlining Sky's only output. Sure, if they want these on a Tuesday and then we get a decent Friday bill in addition... then great, I will not be complaining.

But these British affairs had mis match written all over them.

I have to give some credit, the African importants seem to be less frquent in the last 6 months - but now its just un worthy British fights.

Billy Boyle, Ross Burkinshaw, Stuart Elwell, Kevin o Hara etc should not be contesting for a title beyong (English/Irish/Celtic level).

why not just stop showing shit every friday?we might moan on here, but thats because most of us know what we are looking at.NOBODY can argue at the decline of FFN in recent years.i appreciate the likes of booth and cleverley, but these are the best sky have to offer for subscription.take the forthcoming ppv card.that has two decent potential FFN'S in macarinelli and brook that arent even been shown live!work that one out.

the ones who moan are sick of rubbish main events, sick of paying their money to subscribe to a channel that puts on poor shows just about every week. we want good fights, we haven't been getting them, so many of us have cancelled our subscriptions. what do you want the non-football SS subsribers to do - keep paying for fights they don't like?

put on some more johanesson v gomez calibre fights and things might look a bit better.

What an ignorant comment, what your basically saying is just put up and shut up and be grateful for what you have got! sorry but the FFN is not up to the standards I want to watch and the pay per view is nothing short of scandalous. Also as for helping british sport across the field they have also killed top flight football in this country IMO. I've cancelled sky altogether and dont miss the dross being served up one bit.

why cant we moan about things we pay for?sending a list of recent unsubscribers probably wont make a bit of difference to a bunch of smug accountants sat behind a desk.Sky has a monopoly and things will only get worse

sky as life line?

then there isn't much of a pulse in the fringe sport, is there?

i'm not paying when there's only about 2 fighters worth watching, moore and sutherland. if sky get the hennessy fights and get involved in the super middle tournament i'd consider subscribing again.

Typical promoters attitude, "I know lets piss on the people who put us where we are and give them a fight between a British prospect and some unknown 'tough' African who although game can't box for toffee"

I don't care about British boxing but I do care about boxing in general no matter what country the participants are from so if we can have some competitive international cards instead of the absolute shite we get from a domestic card on FFN then fantastic.

Until then I'll watch something else and just keep up with the results.

I agree. Sky is pants when it comes to boxing. The FFN card I dont think one fight that was shown lasted more than 3 rounds. But what do they care. Their getting our money and now that setanta have gone under they aint got much too worry about now.

Let's give Maloney their due, they have put on the better shows on FFN with european calbibre fights with Jamie Moore, Rendall Munroe etc.

It's the other's that transmit the cack.

Cleverly vs 'Insert mismatched opponent' = 1 round, maybe 2 worht of action as 'the main event' is par for the course.

I think we were spoilt when Froch would take on Magee, Dodson, Reid etc on a Friday night compared to that pile of crud.

Stuart Elwell is a solid, honest pro - but why should i pay to see the lad getting his clock cleaned by Kell Brook - week after chuffing week we get this dross served up.

I've lost count of the 'main events' lasting less than 3 minutes by allegedly.

Lets say we had 4 x mismatched fights, each lasting at best 2 rounds = that's 25 minutes of main event action in a MONTH for subscription money.

Fair play to Hennessy he has really put on some cracking fights. Tyson Fury has been solid gold entertainment. The Darren Barker fights, plus the likes of Murray vs McAllister, Elcock vs Macklin, Watson v O'Donnell, Thaxton's euro adventures against Melero etc.

It's a good job for Sky that itv are relaxing the boxing schedules as Hennessy / ITV would make their FFN completely redundant.
