Spoiler -- Darchinyan vs Agbeko

Allow me to be completely classless for a moment: Thank God the bully got done. As I long suspected, the moment Vakthang isn't coming into the ring fifteen pounds heavier than his opponenent, he lost. Hah (this time he was only eight or so pounds heavier on the night. That's only what, two weight divisions? Bless him).

Ah, there we go, that's better. Ahem.

Turns out it was a close but deserved unanimous decision for the African kiddie. Darch scored a flash knockdown but fought like he was going to blow Agbeko away the first time he landed. He was rocked several times & busted up.

First part of the fight is here:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gk1kdr8M ... re=channel

Keep an eye out on his channel, I'm sure the rest will appear soon.

what is wrong with ppl?

everyone fights at a weight too small for their bodies. vic is in his 30s now, his metabolism is slower, so of course he is going to put on the pounds after draining.

once, someone said X fighter had put on a stone after the weigh in. Y fighter who fought him told me, "Well, so did I."

darchinyan is a great fighter who smashed up class acts irene pacheco, cristian mijares, dimitri kirilov and stopped the hard nut jorge arce. who came back from shattering defeat and won 3 world titles. and this guy darchinyan, who moved up in weight to challenge agbeko, is bad for boxing??

we have a lot to moan about with boxing but fighters like darchinyan make it worth watching. so he lost and didn't look good.

i suppose the "good for boxing" agbeko will fight IBF mandatories on Don King cards once every year and a half. agbeko is good but i'll bet darchinyan will do more in his next couple of fights than agbeko. as was the case after losing to donaire.

i agree with the post above, darchinyan has ducked nobody and didnt change his crowd pleasing style after getting flattened by donaire.

congrats to agbeko but darchinyan still has a brigter future. There is plenty of great fights that can be made around the smaller weight classes
vasquez, lopez, marquez, donaire, caballero, dunne to name but a few

Have you gone insane? I didn't say Darchinyan was "bad for boxing". Kindly find the post where I said that. The kind of people who bandy about phrases like "Bad for boxing" are -- to steal a phrase from KG -- fecking bores & whilst I can be a bit of a twat at least I'm not boring.

I just said I didn't like him & I was pleased Agbeko got the win. Part of that is my naturally contrarian nature, rooting for the underdog & part of that is just my personal feelings about Darchinyan. Yes, I admit my aversion to him is deeply personal (& in fairness probably not rational) but he winds me up. I have tried, but I just don't like him. Sorry. I'm not trying to start an anti-Vic Darchinyan fan club or anything, I just don't like him.

You like him? Good. I'm genuinely glad. Please don't put words in my mouth, though.

oi, watch it or i'll put fist in your mouth

i think darchinyan is great for boxing. re the weight issue - i wonder how much irene pacheco and jorge arce weighed against him. a bully, yes, and seems to disregard opponents even ones he's put in a coma (burgos). but he has a come from behind win over lanky puncher irene pacheco - the guy who battered damaen kelly some will recall - so he can fight through adversity.

he is a powerhouse and someone stood up to him. couldn't make his power count vs agbeko. i like agbeko, a hard working hard nut who got robbed v quality wlad sid in germany, and who bashed up former champ luis perez. i figured abrams had overlooked the african's qualities in his preview last week.

i am perhaps responding to other posts in which darchinyan was "exposed" as a "bum" and a "chump". vic's had worst done to him - donaire - and look how he responded to that. i think vic is a major force at super fly. i doubt him as a bantam. bantam could be an excellent division. hasegawa is the class - for me - because he beat a great fighter - veeraphol - in a great fight to win the title and has poished his rough edges. i hope agbeko gets big fights. he has beaten a big name, a considerable star, so let's see what fortune comes his way.

hasegawa, agbeko, moreno / darchinyan, donaire...some quality there. reminds me of the late 80s and early 90s line up at super fly and bantam when you had galaxy (his equivalent, darchinyan) moon, konadu ( akin to agbeko), roman, etc etc

Darchinyan should definetly move down in weight he is used to being bigger and stronger than his opponants but when he fought Agbeko he couldnt.

definitely. when you have such power advantages, just batter the best at your own weight. vic has an arrogance, which some don't like, but it's this arrogance that allowed him to walk through 3 rop 115 pounders after suffering a one punch KO defeat.

i just wonder what there is at super flyweight, and how many titles vic has left. i'd love to see him just knock out a couple of mandatories while the next interesting challenge has time to simmer. i'm sure showtime will televise darchinyan in even routine world title defences.

vic, being left hand happy, with huge power, and rugged strength to shove off the opponent in order to create room for the power left, reminds me a lot of khaosai galaxy. galaxy stayed at super flyweight and was a right bad arse, denting some really hard heads.

I stayed up to watch it. Darchinyan fought with terrible tactics. He didn't establish his jab, and when he used it at the end of one of the early rounds you could see it would work well. He was chasing the KO instead. Very poor game plan, if he used one at all.

Agbeko wasn't brilliant, but he slipped the punches very well and is a very tough guy. He did what was needed. Kudos to him for that. He's a solid champion, though looks beatable.

Lucky man, unfortunately the next time an African pulled out of a Commonwealth fight with you, you ended up with Munyai.
Who was the original fighter ?

Glad Agbeko has gone on a good run!!! He was robbed in Germany when he had his first title shot.

Also agree that fighters like Vic who pile on the pounds and then beat up on a out-gunned opponent arent really my cup of tea.
Same day weigh ins should be brought back!!!

On the morning of the fight Vic was 128 to King Kongs 121. Nearly 7 lbs and two weight divisions apart!!!!! Shocking!!!!!

Ha good one :TU:

I think Vic is great, he talks a lot of trash and he's obviously a mean SOB, but he backs it all up, taking on some of the hardest bastards around. Plus that KO he suffered would have finished most fighters at top level, but he came back even better. I love his attitude.

This always looked a very tough one, they don't get any tougher than the top level Ghanians, and from what I'd heard, Agbeko was a man to avoid - so full credit for him moving up to take him on. That wasn't a knockdown in the 7th, more a push.

King Kong is obviously the real deal.

7 pounds isn't shocking, not when other people do it also. the weight can give an early advantage but when you put that much on you can go sluggish. apparently it was a sluggish performance.

irene pacheco and jorge arce - didn't those boys drain and pile on weight? (wasn't it a bit of a scandal the weight advantage that arce had over some of his opponents after the hussein war?) nonito donaire looks two divisions bigger than every opponent - another darchinyan opponent.

No chance, then fighters would do it and try to re-hydrate in a shorter time, hence causing more ring injuries which is why same day weigh ins were taken away in the first place.

its an even playing field for everyone, some take advantage better than others.

A number of fighters still push themselves to the absolute limited now. Hence the deaths that still occur, particularly in south east asia.

No matter when you have the weigh in people will always try and get an advantage.

It makes a mockery of having a weight divisions when you are two divisions apart come fight time.
