why???

for 1 simple fact - they want to be the best by fighting the best

khan and calzaghe would get so much more credit if they had acted like the above 3

1,000,000% agree. Calzaghe was a joke for the best part of 8-10yrs. Who remembers his 1st "defence" against Sobot I think it was and Froch's 1st defence against Taylor. It's unbelieveable.

branco sobat a totally unknown punch bag

froch went away from home to fight a guy who had been in with the best and beat the best.

if only more fighters were like froch

If Froch somehow wins this super-middleweight tournament, I've no doubt that he's proven himself a greater fighter than Calzaghe. It's not even an argument.

Same goes for Haye if he beats Klitschko.

That's the problem with Calzaghe's 'legacy'. It's all based on stats - undefeated for X number of years, made X amount of defences, etc. The problem is, he has hardly any major names on there. It's all quantity rather than quality. Stats don't mean f-all when you look close at how he managed to rack them up.

who did hatton fight that was the best at his weight at the time...

answer.. 1 man, KT !!

everyone else had either come up in weight to fight him, or was old and over the hill.

FACT !!

dont try and tell me PBF and Pacman were/are natural 140'ers .... no way.

I suppose to be fair to Ricky, it was all WBU fodder than he eventually tired of - and it's the reason he walked away from his promoter.

Since he went his own way, apart from Lazcano (although the event was great 55,000), he has fought decent opponents Urango, Collazo, Castillo, Mayweather, Pacquiao.

The Mayweather build up felt like all my Christmases & Birthday's had arrived at once and for that I thank him. Same goes for the mouthwatering Tszyu fight. When that opening bell went for both fights i was like a rabid lunatic.

The Pacquiao fight never held the same aplomb as Mayweather, but was still a decent event building up. Unfortunately the ending, although shocking, was a signal that the end was in sight for him.

I think the 140 scene died when Cotto and Floyd left after Gatti & Tszyu got defeated. Plus the B-level fighters like Kelson Pinto, Vivian Harris etc all got obliterated too (Pinto by Cotto, Harris by Maussa).

Hatton was then kind of like the odd man out.

At welterweight, it was almost like he was the small kid who was too short to go on the rollercoaster. If he had a slightly different stature and height he could have maybe had some great fights at 147lb too.

Yeah what a shitty coward Hatton is, fighting crappy smaller fighters like Mayweather and Pacquiao

I agree about Calzaghe but if you remember Hatton did not fight for a genuine world title or a genuine world class fighter for that matter until his 38th pro fight, at that point of he was getting loads of critisisum for continually defending his worthless W.B.U belt and not steping up in class. Obviously Hatton rectified this later in his career but how do you know that Kahn will not ?.
i am in no way a fan of him but the ammount of stick he gets amazes me, he has only had 21 fights one of wich he was distroyed in 54 seconds and yet he is still fighting for a genuine world title in only his 22nd fight, i personally think his career has progressed alot faster that i expected , yes i though he would have won the British title by now, but you have to say if he wins on Saturday he has far surpassed the achivments of most at this stage of his career.

I don't care too much for Calzaghe but Kessler, BHOP (lost for me), Lacy are amazing wins.

Kessler is.

And I said they were amazing wins, not amazing fighters.

Kessler aint that great. We will find out a lot about him in this tournament. We will also find out what Abraham is made of.

I think regardless of achievement Calzaghe was a great fighter. Admittedly he was largely minging to watch, looked a complete pudendum when he showboated but his handspeed and natural talent and stamina was very special.

I think the stupid 46-0 record and 19 (??) title defences actually devalue his standing with the knowledgable hardcore fans. If he had gone 27-0 and beaten Roy Jones, Hopkins, Eubank, Reid, Woodhall, Lacy, Kessler, Delaney (!!) then there would be a hell of a lot more inclination to commend rather then critisise. That we were force-fed the 17 no-hopers he fought is probably the greatest single catalyst for 'annoying' would be fans.

As for the Khan critism? Come on. The lads 21 and he has beaten St Clair, Earl, Gomez, Limond and Barrera plus a host of decent domestic guys like Scott Lawton, Ryan Barett, Stefy Bull and co... Thats impressive in anyones book and a great little resume for someone who is barely into adulthood.

Yes, far from great. A very good prospect, who looked like being a solid if unremarkable champion with good all round skills, but nothing truly exceptional, who was stymied by a slick and crafty old Calzaghe.

Lets see what he does from here on in, he still has a few years left to make a career for himself.

Khan is still young, and can still face the best.

Hatton only faced the best at the latter stages of his career.

Where as Calzaghe stepped up from mediocre Mandatories to pensioners at the very latter stages of his "career"

Why would Warren risk Khans chin against Thaxton and Murray for a five/six figure sum when he can risk it for a seven figure sum vs Kotelnik and then subsequently either maintain seven figure status or move down to five/six figure if he loses.

That said his resume is still impressive. If you can't see that you need to study the domestic scene a little closer.

Froch and Haye - yes!

Hatton? No - only Pacman and PBF prime elite fighters he has fought. KO loss both times - and he was after the money for that I can not blame him.

Froch and Haye!

hatton has fought the very best in our sport , yes he got beat

just like calzaghe would have if he fought jones or hopkins 8 years ago

jeff thomas - khan gave up a title rather than fight thaxton

think it was something to do with big hooks from thaxton and a brittle chin from khan

oh and please dont say that he would beat thaxton now....thats going the calzaghe way ffs

wait till they are shot then fight them lol

Yes I agree he did but still even without Murray and Thaxton the resume is impressive.

I wanted a Thaxton-Murray-Khan series as much as anyone but from Khans managements point of view it clearly wasn't worth the risk.

I think stylistically Murray would have a fantastic chance of beating Khan, at least the Khan that fought Limond and Gomez but we're been led to bleieve Freddie Roach has magically transformed him into a world class fighter. It looked that way against a creaky Barrera, confirmation this saturday against Kotelnik who is top-end Euro level and thus world class.

gomez was shot 5 years ago

khan is not world class . he hasnt beat a top 20 fighter

he has been well managed , well managed away from anyone with a punch

khan resume is very poor for a guy who has been a pro for 4+ years

To be fair to Khan his resume is no worse than Hattons was at this stage of his career(apart from the "1" of course in the loss column).

Barrera, Earl, Gomez, Limond, Barrett and even Thropey can punch. Seems like you've come here to educate rather then take on board anything else anyone has to say.
