He is ranked 605 out of 1091 heavyweights active in the world.

How bad is the bloke ranked 1091?

Im certainly not going to defend Te Rangi as being a good heavyweight boxer. But if you take a look at who the blokes fought in his 12 fights you'll probably see why boxrec has him ranked where he is.

So clearly you can see he hasnt exactly been eased into his boxing career. Hiriwa is also a kickboxer and MMA fighter, which has enabled him to take on the above guys and not totally disgrace himself!

yeah there's a few of them out there, oscar Talemeira is like 3-22 or something, but he gets lots of fights......why?

Worst I have ever seen is Kenneth Knuckles who 'fought' on that Stacy Goodson show that featured Shannon Briggs.

1091 seems to have retired. 1090 is Josip Jovic of Croatia, a 46 year old who has had 22 fights for 22 losses, 17 by KO.

Maybe he should try clerical work.

At 42 years of age and his poor record [ ko's & tko's] all Aust. states should do this bloke a favour
Refuse him a licence to box.

Hiriwa hasnt disgraced himself in any of his fights, yes he has been overmatched at times but he ALWAYS comes to fight and can generally mix it up ok with the top blokes. I dont see any reason to refuse him a licence to box. He has a very sound background in kickboxing and MMA boxing has always been a side sport for him, until he comes to just fall over or shows a complete inability to defend himself or fight then i dont think he should be refused a licence. On the otherhand though Oscar Talemaira who is 3-22-1 has fought EVERYONE he has been asked to fight i dont ever recall oscar turning down a fight and we need guys like this in the sport. However his problem has been lack of training and lack of motivation, he was a decent amatuer but jumped into the pro ranks late to pick up some cash. At the moment hes been falling over, albeit against some heavy punchers. Semi-fit and semi motivated Oscar can give some up in commers a few rounds like he did Forsyth. But I think his time is comming to a very quick ending.

Just wondering at what age and after how many more KO's would you reckon is a good time for Hiriwa to hang up his gloves ?

Legend has it he will be fighting at 80 years old..... record will be 0-80 by then......

Only Te Rangi himself will decide when to hang them up. But at 42 im dont think he has many more years left in him, having said that Pantera is 46 and still going.......and Holyfield..............

He has never won an MMA fight either yet he still gets good pay days.

Hiriwa was a good name in Kickboxing during the mid 1990s hence then
he has been some one that gets fights because he has the heart to get
in their and mix it up regardless of the rules. All 3 sports need guys like this.

Yep, De Mori is putting it all on the line against Karusa.
Word is if he wins he's been offered a match up with Te Rangi . But he's reluctant to take up the offer because '' Hiriwa is overdue for a win any time soon."
Ah matchmakers. don't you just love 'em.

With an increasing number of one sided contests [ especially in the heavies ] the boxing authorities are considering some handicap events. In these one boxer would be required to use either a blindfold , ankles tied together or hand behind your back technique. But never all three at the same time.
Should make bouts a lot more competive & could really catch on with the fans.

Any thoughts ?

Sounds great ! The possibilities are endless.

in the world of boxing, you have undefeated fighters so its only logical you have defeated fighters. Plus fighters need tune up fights like these to give them some confidence.

What interested me about this post is what is their to discuss? Te Rangi is a courageus athlete and a nice guy but not a very good boxer. If you are going to watch him or watch someone fight him dont expect a good quality fight. Thats if he's still fighting he should retire, no doubt that should be the end of his brave career.

I know Foxdog what you are saying , but in reality there is something to talk about, most of the guys who post here and the general public don't want to see mismatch's or worse, see someone get seriuosly hurt, if you haven't got a win in at least 7 fights you probally wont.........so why continue.

Thats where i disagree houndawg, it has to be a case by case basis. IF a guy comes in with no previous fighting background and goes 0-7 against a bunch of pro debut guys or guys with 0-1 0-2 records then perhaps yes a pro boxing career isnt a happening thing for him. However if you look at Te Rangi hes been a fighter all his life hes been in kickboxing, MMA and boxs on the side for some extra cash. Hes a hardman and at least knows how to lok after himself if you look at his first 7 fights............

Mate, hats off to the bloke, don't get me wrong he fought tough blokes.

But for the safety of a fighter and lets not forget where it really counts the Fans, it's not a good look, getting knocked out 9 times in a career is not good for the brain.
I love a blood and guts fight but when only 1 blokes in the contest it's hard on the eyes.
Lets look at for what its worth he's obviously cheap from a promoters POV,and is willing to fight on an hours notice, but you cant tell me it's entertaining to see a bloke constantly lose, and he's not just losing, he's getting stopped every time, it's the same as Taliemera.

IMO if they lose 7 straight it's time to help out in some other way in boxing, and there are plenty of ways.

Just in reference to mismatchs and people getting hurt, last thursdays card held Ben Edwards vs Sam Leuii on the undercard, on paper looked fair but Sam was on a massive losing streak and it clearly showed, ,he didn't have the skill sets and probally most don't to keep them punch's from ben getting thru,if that fight had of gone the entire first round , Sam was coming out severly hurt, it was a well timed stoppage.
As a fan i was extremely dissatisfied with the matchup, and i dont want to see a guy get bashed, i want to see a boxing match, now 5-6 years ago when sam was winning i'm sure it would of been interesting.
