Shame, especially as Asaikinen is going to be every bit as tough as Barker if not more so. We as fans just miss out on a big domestic tussle

Ricky lost the purse bids here to a massive offer from Meaty Mick.
He is very fortunate that he has a good deal with Sky - unlike some of our other Promotors.
However that does bring pressure to a fledgling Promotion Company in that he has to fill those dates, and provide a decent bill header.
Macklin clearly fits the bill, but the loss of that purse bid will have caused problems.
If this rumour is true, I can only think it's because Hatton Promotions desperately need him on their bill.
The opponent isn't the Euro Champ so unless there's been any movements in the background, a title won't be at stake.
Again the paying punter misses out on a top domestic match up due to Promotional issues.
Some things never change.

Don't know if its true or not but the silence is deafening so you have to assume there may be something in it

The Euro title is vacant as Gevor gave it up to fight for a world title recently against Sturm.

Asikainen is official challenger with Sylvester, that can't take place because Sylvester has a world title shot in September.

Then you go to Pirog who is available but it makes you wonder if they have something lined up for him. Then its Oral, Spada and Zbik who all fought recently so they are out for a quick return to the ring.

Then its Macklin and Barker so its possible Macklin could be the highest ranked available challenger to the Finn for the vacant title, assuming Pirog is moving onto better things.

Hopefully someone can clear this up today from Hennessy as they come on here frequently.

Shame if its off but I suppose to be fair who would turn down a shot at the Euro crown, especially in a fight that Macklin wins as long as he keeps to a gameplan as the Finn can bang but is on the slide.

it is moving him up from the british scene, though. win big at british level, EBU ramifications. win big at euro level, roll on world...abraham's title is vacated, pavlik will likely dump WBO strap and besided may move up to 168 by next year.

Got to agree with you there mate. Barker-Macklin means something

It smacks of we can't promote it so we'll go elsewhere. Hatton Promotions must have been serious about Barker-Macklin or they wouldn't have bid for it.

If Macklin is not going to face Barker and is still getting £60,000 to fight a MOR Finn from Hatton Promotions then good luck to him, but avoiding Barker is not great for domestic boxing

IMO its a bigger and better fight for Macklin

Shame this had all the makings of a very good fight hope it happens some time in the future I would still see Barker winning classier fighter and great straight punches

You can't say Macklin's running mate.
Boxing is a business as well as a sport.
This is nothing to do with the fighters, ALL to do with Promotors.

Win or lose Macklin will still be facing barker eventually. Just a shame it isn't happening in September. Hopefully Barker gets a name in his next fight, maybe a ex Abraham/sturm opponent

Amin is a strong, more experienced and higher ranked fighter than Baker! Hardly the actions of a coward!

It might be a bit too soon to start laying into Macklin, anything might happen by the end of the year, but i've had my doubts about Macklin's willingness to face Barker in what would be a top rank British title fight. If Macklin does go elsewhere he should expect plenty of stick.

i take it Macklin has to vacate the British title then ?

yes barker is too slick..he is a quality boxer with underestimated power..i see darren going all the way..macklin will become european champ but is not world class
