Boxrec Hall of Fame Ballot (4 days left!)
Posted: 01 Aug 2009, 15:11
by Ambling Alp
It's time for another Hall of Fame Election. The deadline for submitting a ballot is Noon CDT on August 15, 2009. I will total the ballots after that.
A brief summary of the rules for this election:
-A voter can vote for up to 25 names. (If you vote for more than 25, your entire ballot doesn't count.)
-A fighter's last fight has to be before August 15, 1999 to be eligible.
-You can change your vote. Your last vote before the deadline will be the one counted.
-Candidates who are named on atleast 75% of the ballots are elected. If no fighters receive enough votes, the fighter(s) with the most will be elected.
Go to the Boxrec Hall of Fame Sticky (p.2) for more complete rules.
To vote, just list your selections on this thread. (Don't put them on the Hall of Fame Sticky or any other thread.)
It would be appreciated if you list your selections in alphabetical order.
It's a good idea to check every name that other voters have on their ballot. You may find someone that you overlooked.
So far there had a been a good variety of fighters from different era's, weight classes, styles, etc. Hopefully that will continue.
Fighters already elected by Weight Class:
Heavyweight(11)- Ali, Louis, Marciano,Dempsey,Fitzsimmons,Johnson,Jeffries,Frazier,Liston,

If you want to make a case for or against someone, feel free to do it on this thread.
Also, voters are encouraged to name one fighter on their ballot that they consider the most worthy and briefly why. You don't have to do this to vote. However, it may help the cause of that fighter.

I want to get some attention and discussion on this because I can not explain his absence. And I see him on no one's list, I know we are trying to give some of the older generation of fighters their just due, but I think he is hugely deserving. I'll then add to my list at a later date.
Is he eligible according to the rules?
Or don't you bother with that sort of thing, Bobby?

I bother, but having a senior moment, maybe I never even paid attention to the rule... thanks for your caring assist! How many years must they remain in purgatory? Oh never mind.... I see the date....I'll have to edit.....thank god for your attention to detail...or the whole place would come down around us!

Nothing wrong with paying attention to detail............................ Perhaps your lack of attention to detail is why you haven't made much progress since you announced you had become a boxing historian. That and the fact that you don't have even the most basic understanding of the fight game.

Yeah but I like the sport a bit. And that makes me special.
However if you insist on continuing to call attention to my weaknesses, I must warn you that I may choose to lash back. I may even resort to rarely utilized double digit length words, direct from the dictionary, specifically designed to put you on the defense. The words I would choose would be potent and powerful and could perhaps tarnish your pristine, sterling and long fought for and some may say earned, premier reputation within these hallowed halls.
I now suggest you reflect, before taking further libelous action in this regard.

Now let's see...where was I before all this Collins nonsense began.....Oh yeah....
Point of Order.
Request for change of rulings.
May we have the qualification date changed to 09-30-2001 or perhaps 1/1/2002 so that fighters who have not fought beyond that date are now eligible?
This would allow Ricardo Lopez to be considered. I think we can safely say that he will not be returning to the ring, and the space of non activity would still seem reasonable.

Ah, yes, "Collins nonsense". Hahahaha, pointing out that you don't know what you are talking about. That's "nonsense" now?
You must yearn for the good old days when you, bazza, jimbo and kojoe had that little love-in scene where one twat would post something daft e.g. "my granddad was the best boxer ever" and the other 3 would all say "Yes", "true", "great post". The unspoken understanding was that in return they would then get group support when they posted something just as stupid.
Sorry, Rob, but those days are long gone.

Ah, yes, "Collins nonsense". Hahahaha,
Sorry,
You must learn to be succint, As an assist I have edited out the irrelevant verbiage and left the heart of your reply....Apology of course accepted.
As for atonement I ask for you now to second my very reasonable request of the group to move the "line in the sand" forward by two years. I thank you in advance for your assured support in this vital matter in securing Ricardo his rightful place amongst those boxers who are deserving of recognition.

See, that's the difference between me and you, Rob.
I would have said "Whoops, my mistake" after I pointed out your erroneous comments re Ricardo Lopez.
You, on the other hand, want to go into a convoluted excuse culminating in collins being labelled a pudendum.
It's pathetic really but I suppose it makes some sense to you.
One thing about gran, Rob. He had your fekkin number, didn't he.

No offense meant. I would however like to open up the voting for Lopez....it's just that simple.....nothing all that complicated. The rest is just ribbin', much lighter fare than you imagine it to be. Sorry if I fouled ya' I'll keep em up in the future. You artist's are always so sensitive.
Now can I count on your support regarding the "Lopez Waiver"?

Yes, if they make Ricardo Lopez eligible I will vote for him.
Compared to some of those fekkers currently being proposed, I have at least seen a bit of him in action.
Of course, if Jose Caramello or whatever his name is ("the very best boy from south america" or summat) gets another glowing mention I might vote for him too.
And Bert, of course.

collins - boxbuzz is just kidding around with you now. if he chose to match his knowledge of boxing against yours, he'd assist you in your own long going project of making a fool of yourself.

There's plenty of posts for him and you to trawl through, old man.
I think the proof of the pudding is in the trivia thread. Poseurs and frauds like you and him have no luck there.
I admire you trying to help him out. But, fekk old man, you are as hopeless as he is.

Fekk is an Irish word, Jacko. Look it up.
I realise that you don't understand the trivia. Your attempts at answers in that thread show as much.

......i think i'll just let the word pass.
...trivia..oh yeah....i remember that. as i recall it had a lot of good pictures of boxers from several eras and i think you posted some, for which all of us are gratetful. i knew some , didn't recognize others. for example i didn't recognize jackie kid berg, but i got joe louis right away. i can't post pictures with my computer and i have a few, but not many. i'm sure if i posted pictures i own i would be able to identify all of them.
i confess i don't do well with trivia. boxing history is more in my line.
