it's always been alleged by the more cynical that he's more a gymnast than a boxer.

i present exhibit a from that 1st rd.

Alexander just didn`t allow Witter to settle and refused to get intimidated by his unorthodox style. Thus, taking pretty much Witters game plan away.

On witter after having watched it again in good quality I cant understand why he quit. He was behind but still had 4 rounds left to change things especially with Alexander being young and relatively inexperienced he may have forced a mistake in the last couple or get lucky. Its not like he was being totally outclassed or getting a battering. That attitude just sucks unless he was feeling some injury but I carefully watched round 4 and his pre vs post-fourth rounds. Couldn't spot any change.

p.s Everyone slated that ref for PBF vs Hatton fight who kept telling Hatton not to clinch, where is the outrage here?

What a pity Junior didn't do it, I hope it gets at least one more crack because he never seems to take a beating he beats himself almost. I think if he was a quitter we'd have known it before now, so I think the injury was real.
Still good win for Alexander....comes across like a nice guy......Last man standing...9 dead, 10 in jail, including his brother.....that's pretty hairy!

Now, I've always been a huge Witter fan, but I think what this fight - and even others which he has won - show us he is an "on top" fighter.

Couldn't get on top vs Alexander, so bailed.

Was competitive against Bradley until the knockdown, after which point he largely lost interest.

Performance diminished against Ndou when he couldn't capitalise on a very strong start.

Kotelnik fight was a struggle from the start and it was only really Witter's unorthodox style that paid off, rather than him rallying to scrape the win.

Was never really interested in winning against Judah.

So, Witter has never gotten off the floor to win, never recovered from a significant points deficit, and has only really looked excellent in fights he dominated from the start.

well it's a reasoned argument if a little alarming when you think about it.
I seem to remember that Harris was a danger until the 7th round mind you.
Another performance or 2 like that, such as Hatton had against Maussa and Castillo (although not sure if either were as dangerous as Harris)...and Junior's career not to mention bank balance would be seen in avery different light to what it is.

I don't remember Harris being a danger. In the sense that he could have been dangerous, yes, but he didn't give Junior much to worry about in real terms. He was all-but beaten in the fourth round.

cheers for the vid link gomez, i can see why he quit and do feel a little sorry for him as he clearly couldnt get any power shots in with his left hand from the 4th onwards, then the ref started getting onto him and it became a pointless exercise I suppose.

What I don't get is how Witter has looked like such a destructive one shot puncher in some fights (early in ndou fight , euro defences, plus viv harris was convinced Witter had loaded gloves!) and looked so lethargic in others. I mean guys can have off nights, but he left a trail of shocked bodies in his wake when he came back after the Judah loss, ok so many were stiffs but he was putting bad intentions into those shots. Then another fight comes along and he looks bored and tired, with no snap. Very frustrating, and it's pretty obvious now his 'time', if you want to call it that, has come and gone.

What did make me feel more sorry for him was how genuinely gutted he is in that interview at the end. You can see he is absolutely gutted and close to tears and that makes me warm to the man, if he showed that side of himself more I think he;d have more fans, as it is we tend to only hear of Junior Witter when he's sniping at other fighters in those genius Hennessy press releases they are keen on doing.

I bet he got no more than a couple of hundred k. He's thought how many times in the last few years, add to that all the training fees etc which for a pro boxer are gona be exepnsive, management, promoters and trainers all taking their cut too, I'm sure one thing Witter aint is rich. Maybe not poor no, but certainly not rich.

But was it 'really' one night? He last fought in 2008.

I would argue that a lot of us on here have earnt more money in the last 10 years than Junior has.

Althought HitmanHatton1 salary is made up of Job seekers allowance and the odd night out as a rent boy to foreign businessmen.

Junior was good enough to win the WBC title, but unfortunately seemed a bit aloof outside of the ring to truly gain a fan base.

I think he said as much himself once.

I bet he's had a few nice chunks of money here and there, but is not rolling round in a £400k house with a selection of nice cars and enough in the bank never to work again - infact i bet he's far from it.

Which is a shame, as some sh*te footy players warming the bench in the championship earn more in a month than some of our top fighters earn in 2 title fights.

If i could choose my son to become a legendary boxer or a legendary footy player... i'd choose footy.

Despite the fact i hate the cretinous game plus the cretins that participate in it, but because they earn ridiculous sums of money.
