Paul appleby has amazingly got a ebu title shot! he will face Oleg yefimovych on the 3rd october! after getting stopped by lindsay im shocked to see paul going for a ebu title..I think he was very sloppy against lindsay..there is no doubt he is very talented nd fought the wrong fight against lindsay..he is only 22.maybe he is being moved to quick! his opponent yefimovych is 16-1 10 wins via ko. So he cant be no mug..and it's in the ukraine..good look to paul

Its the nature of the game. Promotors will want an opponent for "their man" (this is, after all, in the Ukraine) who is good, but not TOO good. A recently defeated British chapion fits the bill nicely.

Some of the opposition at European level has been shit recently, most notably Moore's last opponent.

I hope Appleby doesn't get ruined by having too many tough fights early in his career, like Kevin Anderson seemed to.

Would a Lindsay rematch be likely if Appleby wins? I would hope that Appleby could have some relatively easy defences if he wins, instead of being thrown to the wolves again.

A Lindsay rematch might happen- whats next for Lindsay, anyway?

Appelby is gettin thrown to the wolves!! He is talented too!! Good fighter that feel should be gettin taken a little slower!! He's 22 so what's the rush??

Tartan tearaway Paul Appleby looks to make amends for his pro first defeat when he steps up in a shot at the European featherweight title held by decent-looking Ukrainian Oleg Yefimovych. The 12-rounder takes place in the Ukraine (ouch!) on October 3, indeed in Yefimovych’s own hometown of Donetsk.
Appleby ventured to Martin Lindsay’s home city of Belfast in defence of his British featherweight title in his last fight and was stopped in the sixth round of an exciting and relatively one-sided affair. Appleby was too open for the punch-picking Lindsay but a fighter learns more from one defeat than 20 easy wins and the young Scot, still only 22, will surely have learned something from Lindsay (and earned plenty of money), although a couple of confidence-boosters would not have gone amiss prior to this second big payday or even a natural-looking rematch with Greenock’s John Simpson. At least Yefimovych has only had 17 fights (one defeat) compared to Appleby’s 15. Their records are very similar.
Ukraine, of course, is better known for her big men but Yefimovych won the title (vacant) with a unanimous 12-round decision over Spain’s previously unbeaten Sergio Blanco last year and has retained twice. He’s never fought outside of his Eastern European manor which makes you suspect he sells tickets and enjoys plenty of promotional backing. Lindsday and not Appleby, after all, should be getting this crack in the murky world of boxing matchmaking. Yefimovych holds a unanimous 12-round decision over fellow countryman Yuri Voronin in 2007, dropping Voronin in the process. Voronin we will remember for busting up Nicky Cook (and Nicky's hands) in a losing European title challenge at featherweight a few years ago. It went the full 12 rounds. To contast that, the Ukrainian took four rounds to halt Spain’s Juan Garcia Martin, a man Appleby clobbered in one.
The champion’s one loss came in Uzbekistan to Uzbekistan’s Alisher Rahimov in an eight-rounder in 2006 (on points), a man with an 11-0 record (now 18-0). Yefimovych has remained firmly in Ukraine ever since.
This is a big ask for Appleby straight after a stoppage defeat. We know he can whack a bit (nine of his 14 victims stopped) and has the fighting spirit to go over there and give it everything for 12 rounds and, but the home man can also do 12 rounds at a heady pace and also whacks a bit (10 of his 16 victims stopped). He is shorter than Appleby but a good age for a featherweight at 27, a peaking sort of age.
Everything considered, one has to side with Yefimovych to force a late stoppage.

Trust me when I say this,Paul ain't going to take this fight.

I wish him well he is a very talented fighter and will go far in this game imo I think its a bit to early for him maybe a rematch with Lindsay or even Matthews lots of good fights domestically for him before conquering Europe
