The one where he was thumbed in the eye by the wonderful Larry Holmes was on TV.

I am not sure if that fight took place before or after the wonderful Roberto Duran thumbed Davey Moore in the eye.

What wonderful practioners of "boxing" those two were in "winning" those fights.

Thumbs in the eyes aside..

I have a few of his fights. Foreman, Page, Holmes..a couple more Ill have to go check on.

Would be interested to see how many of his are available. I like to watch the
fights of the 'minor' players of the sport, the guys often forgotten who at a time
were relevant.

I remember this one.
In fact its unforgetable just how steamed Scott was when the scores came down.
This was part of that Ring Championship series or US championship series. Im not sure of the name.
It turned out to be a fiasco.
Do you remember the name of the tournament Collins?

It was part of the infamous USA boxing tournament sponsored by ABC based on phony rankings supplied by Johnny Ort of the Ring Magazine.

The only positive thing that happened that night was when LeDoux knocked Howard Cosell's toupee eskew when LeDoux tried to get at Boudreaux during the post-fight interview.

LeDoux-Boudreaux was one of the worst decisions I've ever seen . . .

I've heard he got the shaft against a past-it Lyle as well, but I've never seen the bout . .any opinions from those who have?

His fight with (also a past-it) Norton is pretty entertaining . . Ken outboxes him through most of the bout but then has a Frank Bruno like peetering out and barely survives the fight.

I remembering thinking that Johnny would win that fight. He was from Louisana via Texas, and so I knew a lot about him. He had the reputation of being a smooth boxer, but without much pop. I figured he could outbox LeDoux over 8 rounds.

So I had a double surprise that night: Surprise that he "lost," followed by surprise that he "won." Boudreaux's career never recovered from the scandal, as I recall.

I think it's more that his career never recovered because he was never really that good. He certainly had fast hands, but seemed to have never really learned some boxing basics. I don't recall; did he have much of an amatuer career?

Brutu, thanks for the link to the Foreman fight. I haven't seen that one since it was originally televised. I think during that short period of his career, George was at his best.

The tournament was run by non other than Don King. It was his way of getting control of top fighters. To box in the tournament you had to be ranked in the top ten. Oh you want to fight but aren't ranked in the top ten, no problem, just sign right here naming Don King your promotor and manager and we'll get you in the top ten. He ran the 1st show on an aircraft carrier in Florida and the LeDoux fight at the US Naval Academy so King could avoid paying federal taxes as military bases are fed tax free. I spoke to LeDoux in the mid 90's about that fight. He said he went to federal court to testify against King but of course teflon Don got off.
Did you know LeDoux now has ALS (Lou Gerig's) disease? Experts don't know a whole lot about how ALS occurs but they now think there is a connection to concussions. Evidently Gerig suffered several during his baseball career and boxers certainly suffer them more than most athletes except American football players.
