What I mean is these guys are still plying their trade in their 40's with success.

They continue to fight and face real challenges.

Roy Jones was nearly 40 when he fought Calzaghe.

Hopkins was in his 40's when he fought Calzaghe.

Calzaghe builds up this long record then retires quickly before anyone can tarnish his record.

No Hopkins rematch - he bows out with a win over a faded Roy Jones Jnr.

These Jones Jnr and Hopkins fighters - they continue their trade - until they are just not up to it anymore.

Calzaghe while he was knocking on in a age himself - still has plenty left in the tank - more than Jones and Hopkins in youth and energy.

Yet he is the quickest to retire and preserve the undefeated record.

But judging fighters histroically surely its all about more than stastics.

Calzaghe still has plenty left to offer - I just feel his retirement is premature.

The reason for that is you actually want to see a great champion lose so he can hand over his reign to the new generation.

To retire without maximsing your potential - just seems a artifical way to go.

Boxers can't really be 'shown up' by other boxers for choosing to retire. Its a tough sport and anyone who doesn't want to continue doesn't have to. Calzaghe is obviously satisfied with his legacy and I don't blame him for calling it a day if he's had enough. Every fighter is different and every career plays out in a different way. On top of that you can easily look at the flip side of this argument. How good would RJJ's legacy be right now if he'd hung 'em up after Ruiz? I rekon he'd be on a much higher pedestal than he is right now in terms of legacy.

i'm personally sick of seeing hopkins and jones carrying on and on.

i give calzaghe credit for retiring and not outstaying his welcome.

hopkins in the calzaghe fight was so damn negative.

i would have been disgusted if he'd got that decision.

jones won't rematch glen johnson.

won't step up to cruiser and fight a meaningful fighter like adamek or cunningham.

who cares about him fighting lacy or green anymore.

can't wait for this super 6 tourney cos it's new faces with a chance to shine.

Threads like these have become so boring and tiresome

How is RJJ showing JC up he is half the fighter now I think Calzaghe was right to go out on top whats the point of carrying on and potensially tarnishing his record

the lacy fight was utterly meaningless,what does it prove, except that even a past it jones is too good for a washed up lac

jones will get blasted out if he takes on the top boys at light heavy, which is why he is planning on fighting washed up fatboy danny green who is fighting at cruiserweight, in another meaningless fight.

True this proves nothing he is still washed up and to old he should retire now
